The off-season

Greetings football fans.

For those of you hoping to stay in touch between now and season 2019...here is the place to do so.

All things sport and anything else for that matter. There won't be a massive number of people around in the off season, but those that are usually pretty good value. I'll drop in from time to time myself, for what it's worth.

All the best.

It looks great, if you want to follow it, go to one-eyed eel fan site where there are some cracker pictures from all around the seating. Got to work out how to get down there to watch the BOYS play there. From the pictures the only reason it will be better than Suncorp is that's it's home.

Hello everyone, I hope that you had a good Christmas & new Year.
Big Pete, sorry to hear about your brother.
No, I haven't been to "slice & dice" but now that all of the holiday makers have left the Island, I might be able to go to the shopping centre, & (a) find somewhere to park, & (b) not get another mark on my car doors from someone opening their doors on my car,
In answer to Christine, I think that the Eels have recruited well.
I'm not a great fan of theirs, but they seem to have a reasonably strong team.
As for who is going to win the trophy this year, it's anybody's guess, as not only have the teams had changes, quite a few have new a new coach. Should be an interesting first couple of rounds.
Cheers for now, Manyana.

So looks like Ben Barba has been sacked from the Cowboys before he even played a game due to him insulting his partner he will never play NRL again

christine 's picture

Thinker
Thanks you for your quick work with restoring the comments section for me so I can post comments again now all is working again , much appreciated you know if you ever decided to run to be prime minister I would vote for you ...

christine 's picture

"a" , mary s, nrl fan ( anyone else who supports cowboys )
1. Did you really think ben barba was going to be the answer this season .
2. Do you think if the nrl does give ben barba a life ban that is being to harsh a penalty or does ben barba deserve what he gets ?
answer the ?'s which ever way you all feel no one is judging anyone here I just want an opinion so it's better to ask a cowboys supporter ...

christine 's picture

Before anyone does answer the above ?'s there is also another ? we should ask yes it is domestic violence when your partner gets dragged into the situation but just because your in the public eye does the nrl have the right to get involved with personal matters ?

Mary S's picture

Hi Christine,
Ben Baba, initially, sounded like a good inclusion to the Cowboys but it takes more than one person, as we all know, to make a team, and a team effort to win.

I, personally, abhor domestic violence on the part of either sex, and a lot of sporting bodies are making a stand and expecting the players to comply.
The Cowboys, like the NRL and other employers, has their code of conduct which is explained, signed by the player/employee, and reiterated by management that a breach of that code is a sackable offence. With that code of conduct in place, it negates the personal aspect of behaviour when it is breached.

From the reports, it appears Barba abused his partner in public. It has been said that there is footage of the abuse and that police are investigating. If this correct, and it appears it has happened previously, then to my thinking, it makes Barba a slow learner!!

His going will leave an opportunity for another, perhaps more deserving player, to get a chance!
Cheers to all
Mary

I like your answers Mary.

I think we will do better without with and yes he behaviour is so unacceptable he should be banned for life

Mark A - thanks my friend for condolences.
It is taking a bit this year, so far. Have several things going on.
We will catch up.

Manyana, Christine, a and others here - I also thank you all.

Manyana - I know the feeling about getting to the shops, when the tourists have gone. Really, no-one gives a hoot about others cars these days. They are in too big of a rush to even consider that. Another issue that gets up my nose, as my wife often complains of it.

Mary S - are the floods affecting where you are?

If any of you have a very hot day, where you are today, if you like the racing cars, turn your tv on to Channel 63 (7 Mate), as The Bathurst LiquiMoly 12 Hour Race is on.
It started at 6am this morning and ends around 6pm this evening.
Several overseas drivers among it, The 888 Car of Whincup/Lowndes and VanGisbergen are now running 7th - were 11th about an hour ago.

Warming up here, so imagine the temps inside the lower mounted cars.

Cheers my friends and keep well
Pete

Hi Big Pete,
You might say that Townsville is extremely soggy at present!!

Every resident here would love to push this monsoon further south into areas needing rain desperately. Parts of Townsville and Ingham have had close to 2 metres of rain in 7 days, with areas experiencing 2 -400mm in a couple of hours!! So hard to imaging that amount of water falling out of the sky in one go!!!

Fortunately the area I'm currently staying at, is high enough not to be effected. If it went under all Townsville would be flooded.

'A' - How are you faring with the rain?

Big Pete - I hope 2019 improves dramatically for you after a rotten start with the sad news you received.
Cheers,
Mary

In regards to ben barba sadly it's not the first time he has done so he has assaulted his partner before while playing for another club so we have some anger issues that need to be worked on but sadly this will also affect his family / children but he wasn't thinking about that at the time was he ...

Mary S I'm coping just fine

I've been meaning to tell you for some time I love your pic attached to your name. As a (very youngster) I grew up with the 3 stooges at Saturday matinees. Moe, Larry & Shemp, then Curly then Shemp again and others gave me the best laughs of my childhood, loved them all dearly, sadly they have now all passed but will never be forgotten.

To all our friends in NQ, our thoughts are with you, hope your homes are safe and please keep out of flood waters....we need you here tipping by Thursday March 14.....keep well all.

I, unfortunately, watched the Hollywood movie about the Stooges.
They were put up as alcoholics, bullies and uncaring people.
While there may have been some truth to this in their actual lives, Hollywood missed the truth of these guys. They made people laugh.
Year in and year out. Yes management robbed them of a lot of money but they made you laugh. Their true legacy of laughter will not be lost.
If anyone here doesn't recall the Stooges just google them, select an episode and be prepared to have a laugh.

Esra Star's picture

Mate, try and get a hold of the movie that Mel Gibson directed and produced. It is a really good story done well. All the others are just bullshit compared,i think.

Hardyards's picture

Hi tippers, and welcome to 2019.
Very soggy start to the year, nice of the creek to visit the house and say “Gidday” 
Mark, Cowboys will not be the same easy beats this year, once we get a fullback of course. Barber did not fit the values of or club, and we do not condone physical or mental abuse of women. There is a responsibility that goes with being a white ribbon supporter, and that means immediate action if those values are not adhered to. Big cheers to the Cowboys administration to take a hard stand against transgressors, no matter their playing ability. Rant over!
Must swim back home and continue cleaning, looking forward to our massive and mobile forward pack this year, Cowboys 2019 premiers.

christine 's picture

How are we all coping up there in Townsville ?
How is the situation in bowen "a" ?
As long as your all safe just know we are all thinking of you keep us informed if you all can from time to time please ...

mark ashford's picture

Hardyards
I admire your comment about no mercy being shown to wife/girlfriends beaters or abusers by the Cows bosses. I believe it has been taken up by the NRL and a one strike and your out policy is now in place.
Benny Barba has had an alcohol/drug problem for years and you are much better off without him. You have a team that will do very well this year and I wish you and all Cowboys supporters well.
Saw on the news this am that the terrible low has moved off the coast giving all NQ people a break. I hope you are all well and not suffered too much damage.

a's picture

Christine I'm doing just find looks like the rain is all over

manyana's picture

Hi Hardyards & Esra Star, nice to see a few people coming back to the Thinkers site.
To those in Townsville & other places that got flooded, I hope your cleanup goes well & you are all ok.
a, I'm glad you are doing well, especially now that the rain has gone (we hope).
This year should be very interesting for all tippers, due to the fact that there was a lot of player & coach movement.
Picking winners for the first few rounds will be rather difficult I think.
Thinker & your little helper, I'm hoping that I'm still on your list to be in the competition this year, as I really enjoyed it last year & have found some lovely "internet" friends.
Cheers, Manyana.

a's picture

Yeah it's nice to have our old friends back on the site for the 2019 season hopefully more arrives soon it should be a good year for tipping

Hopefully we get some new people to talk to

christine 's picture

The biggest problem you will get now from all the floods is mould & all the prices will go up not only on meat but vegetables as well & then everyone gets hit with increases in there insurance it's never ending for some people the poor farmers didn't need this on top of there problem , got feel sorry for them ...
