I've been running the slide rule over recent State of Origin encounters, and something jumped out at me. I wanted to look at games played at this venue, but I also wanted to put a line through some of those games. I excluded games at Suncorp for two reasons:

  1. If it was Game One of the series (which is almost always low-scoring and tight); and
  2. If the game was a dead rubber

So, in a nutshell, my sample group is games where the series is alive and its either Game Two or Game Three....just like this game on Wednesday. That left me with a sample size of seven games during the last ten years, and in those seven games Queensland won them all. More often than not the victories were convincing - the Maroons racked up 208 points in those seven games while conceding only 90. They scored 30 points or more on five occasions, and on four occasions restricted their opponents to six points or less. Now some will say I've chosen this group of games to give me the result I wanted to get...and they may be right, but the numbers don't lie. NSW have won just two games at Suncorp since 2006, and both were dead rubber contests. This venue means something to Queensland footballers, and when the game also means something the combination is hard to beat. The Blues have a genuine advantage in the forwards, and a significant size advantage on the bench. The Queensland pack needs to lift, but I'm banking on the home crowd doing just that - it's bigger than the Blues bench. Inglis shifts to fullback for Billy Slater, where (potentially) a performance for the ages awaits us. If this game opens up and he finds his mojo he'll run for 200+ metres on Wednesday. Cronk returns from injury and Queensland will be better for it. Cameron Smith will be keen to put a difficult week behind him - luckily for him he'll be playing in front of a friendly audience. Clearly the gap between the two sides has narrowed, but there are quite a number of players I'd be happy to tag as champions pulling on boots on Wednesday night...and they're all playing for the home side.

Verdict : QLD 25 - NSW 18

First try scorer: Greg Inglis

Man of the Match: Greg Inglis

Boyd and Thaiday. Just keep your filthy hands to yourselves tonight

Baggy_Gee's picture

I'm hearing it. Is it the guys "a" reckons would deliver the game for us?

Baggy_Gee's picture

How many meters has Thaiday run to be part of a blue?

Baggy_Gee's picture

32 points in 19 minutes. The Cowboys could do that.1

Coach Potato's picture

Well he is a Blue, so how ironic

Baggy_Gee's picture

I saw he has only made 43 mtrs with the ball, to tired from running in for fights?

Baggy_Gee's picture

Bugger even the boys on the radio are talking about last try for Hodges as part of the script.

Steel Panther's picture

NSW cant do anything right

Baggy_Gee's picture

Great, glad I'm not listening to the manics on the box

Coach Potato's picture

GI, your good. You'll win Souths another premiership with your ability to get a whistle blown.

Steel Panther's picture

Question now is will Qld hit 50

a's picture

QLD to get 50

Baggy_Gee's picture

It's tied with the highest beating every given, they have the break the record just so they have it all.

Coach Potato's picture

Heading towards 100

Baggy_Gee's picture

Coach, South can't compete with the JT never winning a preimership and Hodges final year. G.I. has to wait another year.

Coach Potato's picture

Snowballs can turn into avalanches if they're allowed to keep rolling.

No doubt who the better team was but just pathetic to see all the extra help. Surely they still win without the b/s

Baggy_Gee's picture

How can possesion be 71% QLD with only 5 errors by NSW

Coach Potato's picture

Pearce you gonna retire again? Ala Whispering Mitch ?

Coach Potato's picture

91% isn't it?

Baggy_Gee's picture

He has to, last year we won, this year we have been belted. But game 3 last year was a blow out as well. Trying to make QLD seem invincible at home?

Baggy_Gee's picture

Apparently 68% now. Qld can't get that center to score, so he gets to kick a goal. And its a new Frigging record score.

Coach Potato's picture

Numb with pain. Can't feel a thing.

Baggy_Gee's picture

I'll be that way with scotch shortly. I genuinely detest JT. 1.00000000001:1 that he gets MoM.

Coach Potato's picture

Still watching. Haven't tuned out. Will watch the presentation. I'm a fan of the game too.

Baggy_Gee's picture

I'll agree, I love the game, just can't stomach Origin.

Coach Potato's picture

Thanks everyone. Feel like I deserved to cop it more. Damn Yankees felt sorry for me. Bastards

Steel Panther's picture

Coach you are definitely my pick for motm. Chin up lads

The Thinker's picture

Well played tonight Coach....and to everyone else that got involved.

More people have been watching us make idiots of ourselves than you might imagine.

As for QLD......wow
When they play good football they play really good football.

Man of the Series - Corey Parker....surely

Baggy_Gee's picture

Ahhh we not going to hold you to that JR. Stay around and we'll have a good laugh for the rest of the season.

Coach Potato's picture

Oh yeah like Bradley Clyde's Clive Churchill in the '91 Grand Final.

Baggy_Gee's picture

No man of the match and man of the series to JT. It's the way it always happens

a's picture

QLD won 52-6 NSW are crap

Coach Potato's picture

JR explain. You can stop posting. It's a free world. But why? Isn't Thinker-ville the perfect way to escape for a little bit from the day to day rat race? Is for me

a's picture

This was so much fun I think we should do the same for the final serise

Coach Potato's picture

Good night. Oh crap. Wimbledon, Ashes, Tour de France still on.

Hope your all as sick as dogs in the morning.

Baggy_Gee's picture

Just a bit of sport to go tonight Coach.

Coach Potato's picture

You would think it was catchy enough for the keyboardist to maybe get into it a little.

Plays the keyboard with the same facial expression and energy as someone who's team lost Origin by 50.

mark ashford's picture

Just tooled up the old pc to check on you p---ks posting here . Coach I'm sorry your blues lost but that's origin.
Fair dinkum was that a farkin whitewash or what.
Lots to say in the last coupla days Coach and some other poster who said QLD should be watching from an old peoples home.
Feel like a dickhead now?
Sorry I don't normally get this stirred up but some earlier garbage has me fired up.
The origin CUP is back in QLD were it belongs
So before we all get into "I told you so" lets think about the next 8 rounds and try to get to the top of the ladder.

Coach Potato's picture

On the chin mate.

I sleep satisfied in knowing that I didn't receive any similar reply like this back after game 2. Well satisfied.

Coach Potato's picture

You mean 9? Or is it 8 because Origin has turned the round 26 Broncos/Storm game into a walk-off truce?

a's picture

Yes Broncos vs Storm should be a good game

christine 's picture

you guys all get fired up , if you look at all the comments posted during origin my god
