Wests Tigers vs Manly Sea Eagles – Thursday night – Leichhardt Oval
The Tigers did barely enough last week to keep their dreams of avoiding last alive. They don't need to win this game to achieve that, but it would obviously help. Winning on Thursday won't be easy, against a side jostling for positions in the bottom half of the top eight. If Manly can stay in the top six they play their first final at Brookvale, an option they'd most definitely prefer over, I don't know, Townsville. Note that the Tigers have lost their last nine games against teams in the top eight, while Manly have won their last games against teams outside the top eight. If those statistics aren't convincing enough, in the last six clashes between these sides, Manly have won the lot of them. The Tigers will try, but the Sea Eagles have the class and experience to claim the points here.
Verdict – Sea Eagles by 10
Result – Tigers 34 defeated Sea Eagles 26
New Zealand Warriors vs Canterbury Bulldogs – Friday night – Shaun Johnson Stadium
The Bulldogs have an opportunity to spoil the part at Shaun Johnson Stadium on Friday night. This is the last Warriors game at home for the year, and the last game for Shaun Johnson ever. Other than a brief stint with the Sharks, Johnson has been the face of the Warriors since 2011. He's left quite the mark on the rugby league landscape in New Zealand, and I wish him all the best post-football. Needless to say this game has sold out, as per every other Warriors home game this season. It's the only time in rugby league history, anywhere on earth, that has happened. It might be time for an upgraded stadium. Many of us would be hoping the Warriors can find a way to win this one, but it won't be easy against a side on quite a run of form. Notably, the Bulldogs away form is pretty ordinary. So ordinary that if the NRL ladder just counted results at away games, the Bulldogs would be in 13th place instead of 5th. So I can't rule out a happy ending for Johnson*, but the Bulldogs won't have given up on a top four finish this season, and they're hard to tip against.
* Ms Thinker said I'm not allowed to write that
Verdict – Bulldogs by 7
Result – Bulldogs 34 defeated Warriors 18
Brisbane Broncos vs Parramatta Eels – Friday night – Suncorp Stadium
A 2023 grand finalist taking on a 2022 grand finalist and, sadly, 10th plays 16th. Both sides still have something to play for. The Eels are nice guys but they don't want to finish last, while the Broncos have asked NASA to help them find a way to mathematically make the top eight. It's not impossible - all they can do is keep winning and hope other things fall into place. The Broncos have already defeated the Eels once this season (30-14), and you would hope they'd put up a decent performance for their home fans that continue to turn up in outrageous numbers. I'm tipping them here, but the Broncos have been letting me down for much of the year, so I'm tentative.
Verdict – Broncos by 2
Result – Broncos 30 defeated Eels 24
Canberra Raiders vs Penrith Panthers – Saturday afternoon – GIO Stadium
Another stint for the Panthers without Nathan Cleary running the show, but they've had plenty of practice without him this year, and they're still second on the ladder. It looks like he'll be back in time for the finals, which is good for rugby league I say. While both sides lost last start the Raiders were clearly the more disappointing, and played like a team that have started plotting their end of season plans. The coach gave them a bit of a spray, but I doubt he sprayed them enough. Liam Martin returns to the Panthers pack which is a handy addition, given the strength of the Raiders forwards. The Raiders have struggled against the Panthers in recent seasons and, to be fair, they aren't the only ones, but this looks tough.
Verdict – Panthers by 4
Result – Raiders 22 defeated Panthers 18
Melbourne Storm vs Redcliffe Dolphins – Saturday night – AAMI Park
The last home game of the regular season for the Melbourne Storm, and they can seal the minor premiership with a victory on Saturday night. These sides met not so long ago where the Storm prevailed 30-24. It was another typical effort from the Dolphins - played well, gave their all, and fell just short. For a team in just their second season in the NRL they're doing a fine job, but this looks like one of those games where the Storm may be in a celebratory mood, and could put up a score to match the occasion. Note that Xavier Coates won't be playing on Saturday, but he's nearing a return.
Verdict – Storm by 22
Result – Storm 48 defeated Dolphins 6
South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Newcastle Knights – Saturday night – Accor Stadium
The Rabbitohs are stuck in limbo with nothing much to play for - they can't make the eight and they can't finish last. Under those circumstances, it's not easy to give it your all, and the Rabbitohs are playing like they aren't. Four losses in a row for the Bunnies - the first three they were never really in the contest, and last week they lost to the team running last. Cody Walker gives his weary head a rest this weekend, while Dean Hawkins joins Wighton in the halves. The Knights have also had to find a new halfback, with their Mr Fixit (Phoenix Crossland) putting his hand up for the role. Two weeks ago, the Knights comfortably accounted for the team the Rabbits couldn't beat last week, and I'm happy to use that as a form reference.
Verdict – Knights by 8
Result – Knights 36 defeated Rabbitohs 16
Gold Coast Titans vs Sydney Roosters – Sunday afternoon – Cbus Super Stadium
The Chooks have won their last ten clashes with the Titans, so the trip to the Gold Coast won't have them too concerned. They might appreciate a warmer and dryer surface after playing in a shallow lake last week. Waerea-Hargreaves and Butcher return for the tricolours to boost their stocks, not that they needed boosting. The Titans have been quite the unpredictable beast this season, at least for me. I can't tip them here, but you just never know which these shysters.
Verdict – Roosters by 10
Result – Roosters 48 defeated Titans 22
St George Illawarra Dragons vs Cronulla Sharks – Sunday afternoon – WIN Stadium, Wollongong
The Dragons have another set of twins on their hands, and they look the goods. Toby and Ryan Couchman will both start off the bench on Sunday afternoon, and good luck telling them apart. Remember the names, kids. I'm not sure they'll be as good as the Morris twins, but I wouldn't rule it out. If results earlier in the round go to plan, the Dragons can all but secure a top eight finish with a win here, and I'm prepared to back them in what would be something of an upset. The Sharks have a top four spot to play for, and this is a game they always lift for, but I think the former Sharks coach can pick up a win against his old club here. Call me nuts, but this is my game of the round - there's something about those Sunday afternoon games in front of the ocean at Wollongong that makes me happy.
Verdict – Dragons by 4
Result – Sharks 38 defeated Dragons 10

Greetings football fans
I have updated the NRL ladder and the tipping comp after round 24.
Plenty of solid scoring from our tipsters, but once again we have just the one perfect round - congrats to JP92 who moves within scratching distance of the leaders in the comp.
As always, if you notice any issues with the scoring just let me know.
@Tigergirl
I've tried to send you an email - feel free to email me a screenshot of your round 24 tips if you can.

Evening All
Just wanted to warn you all that I think Rocket Ryan is up to something, he never tips early.
Can someone please note his early tips and see what changes before the first whistle blows.
Another week of miserable refereeing decisions with what appears to be no repercussions.
When a ref makes a mistake that costs a team a win whether that is in a normal round or a finals match, it's too late to change.
I'm not sure what the answer is but something has to improve or the NRL will lose fans.
The first thing is the bunker not being able to rule on forward passes, "WHY NOT".

Greetings football fans
An update to our tipping scores for round 24. Tigergirl also got a perfect score (8 from 8). For those who may be concerned, I've seen the receipts (and it's no huge surprise that she picked the Tigers).
I'll have my previews and selections published tomorrow.

@Mary S
Thanks for that link Mary.
It's all a bit deflating isn't it. .. To add a bit of comic relief you all might like to see Graham Annesley supporting the bunker in their newest interpretation of an obstruction if it was unintentional or accidental (which must now apply to All infringements ... unintentional head highs?, unintentional knock ons?, unintentional forward passes no, wait, they're already let go!).
.
Sidenote : this piece of Lunacy changed a Loss into a Win for the Panthers ...... Do we fans really want to see this club/team once again unfairly aided and abetted into a 4th straight premiership ?!.......
There's a sad irony here as It was also the Eels that were on the receiving end of another farcical display of refereeing incompetence that saw the Panthers pushed through to week 3 of the finals in 2021..... the start of a trend? you might well ask!
Look it up if you don't remember ... I DO.
Many will still remember that this was a Shameful day for NRL match officials yet THIS is the comment that came from G. Annesley even after acknowledging the mistakes and non-calls :-
“I thought the referee and the bunker controlled one of the most intense games of the season extremely well” ...
....some things Never change !
You don't have to look it up , here it is here -

...... There's a bonus at the end of this article for those voting for Ashley Klown in our latest Ref of the Year comp.

Hey Frens,
@ MGM – mate, that was a loooong post about Lattrell you put up last week but don’t worry, I liked it a lot. Then again, if you cast your minds back a couple of years you may remember me posting long ones as well 😉 but yours was on one (1) topic so you can have the gold medal buddy 😂 . Agreed with every single thing you said and as I think I mentioned same years ago, I’m glad he left the Roosters in hindsight. The guy’s just too much hard work and glad he’s someone else’s problem. OK, let’s do this thing …
Tigers vs. Manly @ Leichhardt Oval
Probability @ 25-75
Ladder Position = Manly
Bookies Favourite = Manly
The Tigers had a good win last week but this will be way tougher. Manly are easily the better side here ... Manly by 16.
Warriors vs. Bulldogs @ Mt Smart
Probability @ 40-60
Ladder Position = Bulldogs
Bookies Favourite = Bulldogs
The Warriors disappointed last week. The Bulldogs are playing (very) confident footy so why wouldn’t you tip them … Bulldogs by 8.
Broncos vs. Eels @ Suncorp
Probability @ 65-35
Ladder Position = Broncos
Bookies Favourite = Broncos
My head is telling me the Broncos get this done but a promise is a promise. This will more than likely turn around and bite me on the bum but … Eels by 4.
Raiders vs. Panthers @ GIO Stadium
Probability @ 25-75
Ladder Position = Panthers
Bookies Favourite = Panthers
The Raiders might make this interesting but the Panthers will want to bounce back from last week, even with them being without Nathan … Panthers by 6.
Storm vs. Dolphins @ AAMI
Probability @ 70-30
Ladder Position = Storm
Bookies Favourite = Storm
The Storm made a statement last week against what I thought were the best team in the competition. Again they’re not flashy but they get the job done. I’m not sure the Dolphins have it in them to cause the upset Saturday night … Storm by 10.
Rabbitohs vs. Knights @ Accor
Probability @ 40-60
Ladder Position = Knights
Bookies Favourite = Knights
I really thought the Rabbitohs would’ve won last week but I think they’re showing me just how bad they really are this year. I thought the better side (Knights) lost last week and they are much better than their opposition here and should bounce back … Knights by 10.
Titans vs. Roosters @ Cbus
Probability @ 25-75
Ladder Position = Roosters
Bookies Favourite = Roosters
The Titans have shown glimpse now and then but I think the wheels have fallen off. The Roosters clearly have the class edge and can score big points quickly but they need to work on their defence approaching the break and full-time … Roosters by 12. Begurk! 🐔 Begurk! 🐔
Dragons vs. Sharks @ WIN
Probability @ 35-65
Ladder Position = Sharks
Bookies Favourite = Sharks
The Dragons need to keep winning more than the Sharks do so they’ll more than likely put in an honest effort. The Sharks were, in my opinion, lucky to win that thriller last week against the Knights. Their effort was less than inspiring and I actually thought they were lacklustre for most of the game and that has me concerned. I’m 50/50 with this one but … Dragons by 4.
Bye: Cowboys.
Let’s finish off with another “Song of the Week”…
An early toon that came a few years after his band broke up and he formed a new one. A little “gem” I must say.
https://youtu.be/Uf0AnY9D9gw
OK kids, good luck with your tipping and may your team win by 40 points! Cheers 🐔 🐔 🐔

Yes Newbie , it was long , especially because 4/5ths of it was a repost of something I wrote back in April. ...he deserved it then and in case anyone missed it , he deserves to have people hear it now.
But , Newbie, I'm so much more disappointed and P!ssed Off with Annesley and the gang of incompetents that he keeps making ridiculous excuses for.
It's so common now that it's become infuriating and I Urge you mate and any others reading this to please take a look at the two links I referred to above .... it doesn't take long to check them out ...... and whether you agree or disagree , it would be nice to see a few comments that would let me know I'm being heard.
That's all I need to give me some Peace.
I'm starting to feel like a blowhard and that my dear fellow tipsters here would prefer me to just shut up.
Do you guys (except for just a few) really not care or have an opinion?
Please have a say.

Keep writing MGM. I for one enjoy your comments and find they're pretty much what journalists should be saying, except they're too busy trying to write themselves into stories or to not get off side with powers that be.

I'm sure most of you have heard the news, but congratulations to The Prince of Locks, Ron Coote AM, announced as the 14th immortal of the game we love and sometimes yell at.
Before my time, and before many of us, but one of the best defenders ever. Nine grand final appearances in 11 years, and 6 premierships. All his football played with the two foundation clubs - Souths and Easts.
And post-football, a successful business man.
And, importantly, a good person. I was lucky enough to meet Ron and his wife briefly at a Cowboys/Roosters game some years ago. He won't remember of course...but I certainly do.
The next two in line for the honour will get included eventually. There's time.

Thanks Mr Thinker.
Previous years I have taken Tigers every week.
This year I think there has been a few that I didn’t.
Backing them again this week but only just. I’ll be the there to cheer then on.
I know we will be either 16 or 17. I don’t care.
I am looking forward to the next few years.
Wests Tigers til I die.

Belinda Sharpe is my new hero !
She's calling forward passes !
Ch9 commentators sounded surprised as they recalled she called passes forward last week also in the Rabbitohs match.
Meanwhile, earlier, that over excited pain in the ass Mat Thompson was jumping up and down celebrating a Tigers try instead of calling what's right in front him ...a FORWARD PASS !
The commentators must share the blame for the epidemic of overlooked forward passes because they call them 'beautiful passes', 'flat passes' etc whilst from my recliner they are Blatant Forward Passes !
Kudos Belinda Sharpe , .. because it's obvious we can't rely on referee Peter Gough to pick up on them .

OMG what a game last night. Was certainly a heart stopper at times last night. Couldn’t believe Manly did what we often do with the stupid passes and knock on’s etc.
I suppose Tigerholic is trying to win or at least stay close to the top, it is a competition after all with prizes on offer.
I did when here a few years ago after one of the comments were “ how far out in front would you have been if you didn’t take Tigers each week”. WTTID

The only gugs who looked professional last night was the Tigers so well done . As for Manly they were very poor in fact it is as if they put their money on the Tigers. As I stated some weeks back boy o boy don't the NRL desperately need some good refs.

I admire your restraint , so I'll jump up and down For you.
Last week you politely suggested that "the Warriors are on the wrong side of every 50/50 call but maybe you're just biased as a Kiwi?"
Tonight we've seen just how badly match officials favour Anyone playing against the Wahs.
5 mins into the second half, Your Marquee centre Roger Tuivasa-Sheck has had his season ended prematurely with a category ONE head injury courtesy of a BLATANT shoulder charge directly to his cheekbone from that "face-grinding, shovemynosedownyourthroat and accuse you of biting it" GRUB (a protected species in NSW) -Stephen Crichton - and from the bunker the one-eyed Idiot ,"VW with the Doors open"- Liam Kennedy -whispers in the other idiot's ear that it's a dangerous tackle .. no sin bin , not Off !
Tackle?... Dangerous TACKLE ?...It was a Dangerous SHOULDER F#N CHARGE !!!
Where is Belinda when we need her ?!
