Three times these sides have met this season, and on all three occasions the Roosters have prevailed. Manly have produced a total of 16 points in four hours of football against the chooks, and that is a dismal return. The closest they've got to winning was, oddly enough, the game when they couldn't score at all. That 4-0 loss in week one of the finals was, by a goodly stretch, the best game this season. Both teams have held that form, and another high quality contest looks likely.

Some may point to the 2013 record between these sides as evidence that the Chooks have the wood on the Eagles, but we could have said the same thing last week when we were lining up the Eagles and the Bunnies. It didn't matter then and it doesn't necessarily matter now. I'm still not sure how they did it, but Manly went from 14-0 down and on the ropes to runaway winners. It was an astonishing turn of events, given that the week before they spent the last 20 minutes of a match on the ropes as well. I'm still scratching my head trying to work out how they made it, but here they are.

Much is being made of the grand final experience in the Sea Eagles side and it's hard to ignore that fact. The Roosters are a younger side but they have a fair amount of experience to draw on as well. Unfortunately for the Chickens, most of their big match experiences have been losing ones. I doubt either side will be overwhelmed by the occasion, but if anyone is it won't be the Sea Eagles.

I do like the look of that interchange bench for the Eagles - with one proviso - they don't want one or two injuries on game day in their backline. George Rose has nice hands but he might struggle in the centres if he needs to defend Michael Jennings. The bench for the Chooks worries me a little - some of those kids might start getting nervous waiting on the sidelines. It's a hunch. It's just a hunch.

Ultimately, Manly need to find a way to score some points against the best defense all year. Perhaps they can't, and if they can't the Roosters more than deserve the honours this season. But I liked what I saw from Manly last week. Down 14-0 in front of 8 million Bunnies supporters they remained calm and they won easily. I expect them to hold their composure again, and guts out a narrow victory in what looms as one of the tightest grand finals in quite some time.

For those that like a punt, back the unders in the total points scoring markets, and don't be shy about considering a draw at full or half time. Cherry-Evans is in remarkable form and he looks like a Clive Churchill winner to me. Brent Kite and George Rose get to leave their clubs as winners, and the Roosters are young enough to have another crack in 2014.

Verdict – Sea Eagles 14 : Roosters 12 : Result - Roosters 26 defeated Sea Eagles 18

First try scorer - D
avid Williams : Result - Jorge Taufua

Clive Churchill medallist - Daly Cherry-Evans : Result - Daly Cherry-Evans

Wally Lewis - week one finals (in bold)

Note: tips from Wally will be published on Thursday night or early Friday morning.

Hey Thinker I'm going to be first in this week.
Can't agree more about Manly. I think they'll get this in a tight one.
While all the hype has been on the Chooks and Rabbits this year Manly has been quietly achieving.
I don't like the Chooks so it's GO MANLY!

Yeah ! Finally me and The Thinker agree on something ! Sea Eagles to win 12 and under ! Also you've got it on you, take Sharks, Jr Warriors, Sea Eagles multi, paying $7 for all three of them win their respected grand finals this Sunday. That and since this is looking to be our last league punt for the year, I just want to really take the time out to personally thank you again Thinker for all your tips this year ! Go Jr Warriors ! Kia Kaha boys ! ;-D

Me too with Manly in this final and a BIG thank you to TheThinker and your team for running your tips right through to the final:). See you guys next year.

disagreeing with everyone this time.. thinker, you yourself have said twice this year that the roosters are your pick for the premiership.. manly was average coming in to the finals.. a victory over the undermanned Sharks, and against the bunnies who are overrated and cocky, to me should not be the basis in this one. think prelim final game and holding manly scoreless and shutting down the streaking and confident knights.. that's my basis. i think the roosters are too good right now and will come out on top..

Roosters 22-Manly 10

CCM- James Maloney

you heard it first!

2013 Grand Final.

Twenty six rounds and a finals series run, we have but one game yet to play. The Manly Sea Eagles vs The Sydney Roosters.

Manly have the edge in GF experience with Toovey and Lyon, both men have won on the biggest stage the game has to offer several times, The Manly coach and captain are the key factors for The Guru with this Side, Lyon is the most complete player Manly have, his skill and instinct for the game have made the difference many times during 2013, the fact Manly are even here to play this game rests on the shoulders of Lyon and Tooves. If the Sea Eagles are to win this game and become 2013's Champions, they need 80mins of brilliance.

The Sydney Roosters are hungry for a premiership, SBW, Maloney, Jennings, Pierce...Younger men than their opponents, The Chooks have smashed just about everyone all year and Robinson's men look ready. They give away experience but surge ahead in youth. The Sydney forward pack is big, aggressive. The Guru sees this as a game of forwards for the first 40. Halftime im expecting Sydney to lead by a try or thereabouts while looking to the speed men, MJ, SKD and close up battering rams on the smaller Manly 3/4 defense for the final 20.

The Guru is backing The Chooks, for mine they have been the best side all season, scoring near 30 every week, learning, developing, becoming better all the time. Sydney have been the form side all year. Manly have some experience advantages, but not as much as they may hope. SBW is accustomed to international Rugby, big stages are his thing and he's not alone...The chooks have a few NSW and NZ players in there, the boys are not nervous Nelly's.

Clive Churchill medal - SBW

First try scorer - Daniel Tupou

The Thinker, Wally and The Guru finish the year dead even...

The Guru nailed the Grand Final, Roosters 7-12 and all 3 winners on the day including the spreads...didn't quite bankrupt the bookies all year, but they sure as *&%^ felt it yesterday...

The Guru would like to wish you all a happy offseason. To everyone who posts and reads this page, a big thankyou, and to The Thinker and Wal, thanks for having me, its a pleasure and an honor gentlemen.

Now that the season is well and truly over just wanted to offer a serious THANKS to The Thinker for this site. I've looked at plenty of tipping options and consider this to be the best. Being able to have your say is great fun and has attracted some very talented tipsters. Speaking of talented tipsters I for one would be very interested to hear what The Guru has to say about the season and if he has any thoughts for 2014 ( particularly the Broncos Guru remember I'm a fan!)
Thanks again to all involved.
