Canterbury Bulldogs vs Wests Tigers – Thursday night – ANZ Stadium
Last week I was surprised when the Tigers named Cory Paterson in the centres. I was even more surprised when he ended up playing on the wing. He's there again, and I tip my hat to him for slotting in where the team needs him. The kids at the Tigers are alright but they're flat out coming up with a seventeen man squad at the moment and the long season has taken its toll. The Dogs did enough to sneak home over the Eels last weekend and they should find this a lot easier.
Verdict – Bulldogs by 20
Result - Bulldogs 30 defeated Tiger 10
Parramatta Eels vs Manly Sea Eagles – Friday night – Pirtek Stadium
Jarryd Hayne isn't shy about challenging the referees, and the Sea Eagles have a rich history of doing same. The officials could be ear-less at the end of proceedings on Friday night. Thank you linesman. Thank you ballboys. Seriously, thank you ballboys. The Eels are still, theoretically, playing for a top eight finish...but it isn't going to happen. I've got them in 11th place after this round and their points differential leaves them out of contention. They'll play this game like there's no tomorrow, but those Sea Eagles want the minor premiership and a final at Brookvale Oval. If the players keep the bickering with officials to a dull roar (which I doubt) this would be one heck of a game.
Verdict – Sea Eagles by 4
Result - Eels 22 defeated Sea Eagles 12
Brisbane Broncos vs Newcastle Knights – Saturday night – Suncorp Stadium
The Knights have strung together some decent showings of late but they find themselves in that weird no-mans land - they can't make the top eight and they have avoided the wooden spoon. After this they have two Sunday afternoon games at home to finish the season - if they are going to have an off game this is likely to be it. The injury to Josh Hoffman is a massive blow for the Broncos, but if any team outside the eight can sneak into the finals this is the team. They certainly have a better chance than the Eels. If the Eels lose on Friday night the Broncos will relish the opportunity to go past them, knowing full well that the Warriors and Cowboys have tough games ahead of them this weekend. A lot of ducks have to line up for it to happen, but I like duck. Maranta has been named at fullback to replace Hoffman but I'm wondering if that will change. Maybe Copley to the centres and Hodges to fullback, or even Hodges to five-eighth and Barba to fullback. I'll duck over the road to Broncos HQ and let them know what I think.
Verdict – Broncos by 10
Result - Broncos 48 defeated Knights 6
South Sydney Rabbitohs vs North Queensland Cowboys – Saturday night - ANZ Stadium
Last week I embedded a Greg Inglis try against the Broncos on the site, and I'm doing it again. I'm actually slightly more impressed by this one. That's a big call, but this try captures everything about the man that makes him a future immortal - vision, speed, strength, vision and the temerity to know where the camera is for the post-match celebration (I'm calling it a 'goanna'...not sure if it has a name). And to think he can't get a shot at fullback for his state or country. The Cowboys will be hungry but this is tough. Back to back away games and a short turnaround from a Monday night loss against the form team in the comp. The game of the round...and it's a very good round.
Verdict – Rabbitohs by 4
Result - Cowboys 22 defeated Rabbitohs 10
New Zealand Warriors vs Sydney Roosters – Sunday afternoon – Mt Smart Stadium
The Warriors are clinging to the top eight and the Roosters are clinging to the top four. As a result we get a bellringer of a game. The Chooks have no shortage of Kiwis in their squad so they'll feel right at home, and recent results would indicate they are getting back to their best. That said, this opponent will give them a lot more stick than the Tigers, and I expect the Warriors to stand up at home and remind everyone how good they can be. They are, as they have been for years, a team that can beat every other team in the comp when they're on. I'm hoping they're on. Note the early start for those of us living on the West Island of New Zealand...you'll be glad you plonked yourself down in front of this one.
Verdict – Warriors by 2
Result - Roosters 46 defeated Warriors 12
Cronulla Sharks vs Canberra Raiders – Sunday afternoon – Remondis Stadium
Fifteenth plays sixteenth in the dreaded race to the bottom. Not a lot has gone right for either side this season but with the ASADA bans looming I expect the Sharks to grab this game with both hands and shake the life out of it. That woeful performance against the Storm last weekend was hardly unpredictable, but I suspect the Sharks already had their eyes on this clash. A chance for a brief moment of happiness in front of their most loyal of supporters. Paul Gallen will cue the Eminem soundtrack for his boys...Look, if you had one shot. One opportunity. To seize everything you ever wanted. One moment. Would you capture it or just let it slip? On the surface they look calm and ready.
Verdict – Sharks by 4
Result - Raiders 22 defeated Sharks 12
St George Illawarra Dragons vs Gold Coast Titans – Sunday afternoon – WIN Jubilee Oval
Oh Dragons! Will I ever tip you guys successfully this season? I was genuinely tempted to tip against them this weekend. If the Titans keep things simple (like they did against the Sea Eagles) and play this game through their big forward pack they'll go very close again. What held them back last weekend was their inability to turn pressure and position into points, and I fear they'll have much the same problem this week. Back the unders in this game I think, or Dragons by 1-12.
Verdict – Dragons by 4
Result - Dragons 34 defeated Titans 6
Penrith Panthers vs Melbourne Storm – Monday night – Centrebet Stadium
The Panthers just keep on winning but keeping on winning is about to get a little bit harder. Penrith often play well against the Storm but they don't often win (one from ten...and that one win was by two points). Melbourne are, realistically, the only side that can break into the top four, so this game takes on extra significance for both sides given their ladder positions (3rd and 5th) right now. Craig Bellamy will actually explode if the Storm don't win on Monday night...and no-one wants to see that (especially the cleaners at Centrebet Stadium). Storm by 1-12 is my get-out bet for the round. Gamble responsibly.
Verdict – Storm by 2
Result - Storm 24 defeated Panthers 10
Wally Lewis - round twenty-four selections (in bold)
Note: tips from Wally will (usually) be published on Thursday night or early Friday morning.
- BULLDOGS vs Tigers
- Eels vs SEA EAGLES
- BRONCOS vs Knights
- RABBITOHS vs Cowboys
- Warriors vs ROOSTERS
- SHARKS vs Raiders
- DRAGONS vs Titans
- Panthers vs STORM

Hi everyone,
Another Thursday night game! Newbie needs more time to think things through but if he’s gotta tip on Wednesday night then so be it. So, without any “form study” whatsoever, let’s get into it…
Doggies - yes I came unstuck again with the Doggies last week but you’d think they should be too good for the Tigers this week.
Manly - agree with TT on this one. On paper they have the edge.
Broncos - always like the boys when they’re playing at home so the Newbie’s goin’ the Boys from Bris-Vegas.
Rabbits - awesome 2 weeks ago and awesome last week. Yeah, I thought GI Joe’s try last week (check out The Thinker’s video) was better than the 95 metre one too. Tried to explain it to the guys at work but being totally ignorant of the “great game” they just didn’t get it. What do you expect in the West? Preaching to the unconverted is a battle sometimes. Anyway, Rabbits for me.
Roosters - sorry Johnny Ray but you know I have tip my boys and no doubt you will tip yours. May the best team win!
Raiders - will they find the “Lost Ark” this week? Going the Green Machine ‘cos I’m hugely not a fan of Gallen. Yeah I know it doesn’t make sense and the Raiders are “equal last” (sort of) but what the heck!
Dragons - not sure with this one. Playing to WIN at WIN. An omen perhaps?
Storm - Newbie thinks a wee bit too much class for the Panthers. Storm Troopers for me.
OK, as always, good luck with your tipping this week and good luck to your team as well. Cheers.
P.S. Johnny, thanks for the video link. Still reckon Nicolas Gage did a better (worse) job at losing his you-know-what than Leo. Keep ‘em coming brother.

Good morning Mr Thinker agree with you this week except for the Warriors/Roosterss game. Both teams have been inconsistent this year but the Roosters need to win this more if they are going to defend their premiership. So it's......
Bulldogs
Manly
Broncos
Rabbits
Roosters
Sharks
Dragons
Storm
Johnny Ray... love those video links mate.

Are you tipping this week "a"
Submitted by Steel Panther on
I decided it doesn't matter whether I tip early or late. It makes no difference. I haven't done any less analysis than I normally do each year but 2014 just ain't my season. I figured that even if I tipped after the round was finished I'd still get some games wrong...grrrrr!!! Anyway I'm with the Thinker this week which means I have no chance of pulling myself off the bottom of the tipping ladder. Oh well....
Bulldogs - The Tigers look shot. Bulldogs want to take momentum into the finals.
Sea Eagles - I can see the Eels being more desperate but class should prevail.
Broncos - If the Broncos want to give themselves any chance of making the eight this season this is a must win game.
Rabbitohs - Form versus a team who are known poor travellers. The Cowboys however will be desperate as they cling to the eight.
Warriors - NZW should lose so that's when they win. Like last week. They should have won but lost. Like the Cowboys, another side with a lot to play for.
Sharks - I hope they win as while they have had their fair share of donuts this season they've also been involved in some great hoodoo acts. Raiders have just been woeful all year. It's hard to know what this week's events will do to the Sharks come Sunday.
Dragons - Home ground swings me here although with no confidence as the Titans away form has been better than their home form this season.
Storm - I continue to underestimate the Panthers but as some one else said a week or so back how many get out of jail free cards have these guys got?
Good luck everyone and thanks Thinker. Let's bring on that elusive full round.......

Alright. Let's do this. Here are my tips for round twenty four :
Bulldogs by 16 points
Sea Eagles by 6 points
Knights by 8 points
Rabbitohs by 14 points
Warriors by 2 points
Raiders by 4 points
Dragons by 6 points
Panthers by 2 points
Thanks Mark. Thanks Newbie from Perth. Thanks Thinker. Thanks again Everybody. Go The Warriors ! Kiwi Power ! Peow ! Peow ! ;-D

a there are no guarantees but it does work when you are ahead of everyone else in points in the first place & not just a couple of points if it doesn't work then keep it in mind for next season to be well ahead of the person coming second or third ok

Afternoon everyone,
I've closed the tipping submissions for this round, although we haven't heard from The Guru yet.
Craig,
If you can add your selections in the comments section (before kick-off) we'll fudge them through later.
Have a great 5 day weekend everyone (well 5 day footy weekend at least).

Here are my tips
Bulldogs by 7 I think Bulldogs to be a wrecking ball to the Tigers
Eels by 1 I think Eels to be a wrecking ball to sh!t Cheaters
Broncos by 8 Go Broncos I love you just like the other 2 QLD clubs
Rabbitohs by 2 I think Rabbitohs to be a wrecking ball to the Cowboys
Roosters by 1 It is going to be a thiller here
Sharks by 2 I think Sharks to win in a absoulte thiller
Dragons by 8 I think Dragons to be a wrecking ball to the Titans
Storm by 6 Storm to be a wrecking ball to the Panthers
And by the way what happens if you don't get your tips in on time
Submitted by Guru Craig on
Bulldogs – It’s a dog’s breakfast this one. The imploding Tigers should consider dropping the F-bomb… Not the four letter one, the two legged one with the big nose. Nostrildamus is obviously having a bit of trouble with his crystal ball, but The Guru foresees another magpie mash up. Dogs 30+
Manly – If slippery Sandow can nail another couple of 40/20s and avoid any ball boy incidents, the Eels will go close, but even with the Hayne Plane fully loaded, the fire power of the Sea Eagles will be too great. Manly to bring it home, 13+
Broncos – This is a big, big game for Brisbane, the Broncos’ aspirations for finals are fading fast. In a must-win home game they face the Knights, with coach Griffin in conceivably his last match up against his bitter arch rival, Bennett. Hook’s line’s been pulled but there’s a little bit of buck left in the boys yet. The Broncos are better than Newcastle, they should win this one in front of a Suncorp crowd.
Rabbitohs – The Rabbits look to be riding a wave to the finals. The Guru backs up The Thinker’s advice, Greg Inglis to score and the Rabbits to win is a pretty decent wincast wager. GI’s been a try scoring machine with no signs of slowing down yet.
Sharks – The Cronulla Sutherland Sharks, brought to you by ASADA might have a few things to prove this week. At least one of those things is a possible last victory before sanction. Ricky’s Green Machine ground to halt a long time ago. Honest Gal’s worried about his reputation but he should be able to gee the boys up for a win here. Guru’s gold tip of the round.
Dragons – These two teams are probably on par in terms of skill and ability this year. The Guru’s going with the home team, it should be enough to scrape over the line. The Titans haven’t got much left to play for this year, Dragons 1-12 in a messy game.
Storm – Melbourne survived the Sharknado last week and now take on the Black Panthers at ‘could get a plug if they were friendlier stadium’. Ivan will be telling his troops ‘this is the big time’, Bellyache and his Stormers are the real deal. A win here stakes their claim as a legit threat to the premiership while a thrashing arms the cynics and naysayers.
Submitted by Guru Craig on
Warriors - Almost missed this one, NZ need to win this more than the Chooks do and on home soil with a cooperative ref the boys in black or whatever colour from the 100 jerseys they have should ease out the Chickeroos. NZW 1-12

Thankyou Little helper.
Spot on with the points Thinker!
Submitted by The Thinker on
I had a modest wager on Tigers total score (-13.5 points) at $1.91 last night. I keep betting records as a sanity check and I've had 11 NRL bets this season for 8 winners. One is a long term still outstanding (a double: Rabbitohs to make the Grand Final at $3.50 into the GC Suns to make the Top 8). Thank you Gary Ablett Jnr's shoulder. Clearly I need to stick to what I think I know.
Gamble responsibly.

Oh...and while I'm here. It may pay to watch this space with regard to the Sharks. We may have some pretty significant line-up changes given the 'guilty your honour' news from this morning.

Hello again everyone.
I know the Guru mentioned these a week or so ago, I've got another one for us if anyone is interested in setting up an account with Tom Waterhouse - $2.00 for Manly to beat the Eels tonight (normal price is $1.55). Here's the link: http://bit.ly/1pWs2w2 and gamble responsibly.

There is some value in $2 about Manly, The Guru expects it'll be a Silvertail evening.
Yes Thinker the Sharkies tip may need a re-evaluation if the ASADA blokes are on early holidays, the market on that game has changed a fair bit too with the speculation...
