Manly Sea Eagles vs South Sydney Rabbitohs – Friday night – Bluetongue Stadium (Gosford)
Manly led 20-0 last week. Then Brett Stewart succumbed to injury and it was downhill skiing from there. He won't be playing this weekend either, and to make matters worse the Rabbitohs fullback heads to Gosford on the back of a hat-trick against the defending premiers. Very few teams scored three tries against the Roosters last year, and Greg Inglis did that on his own. The rest of the Rabbitohs line-up is intact from their impressive first round win, and there's every reason to believe we'll see more of the same from the Bunnies. The Sea Eagles are too good a side to rule out entirely, and they do welcome back Jason King and The Wolfman, but these Rabbits were very good in round one and they don't seem to mind the trip to Gosford. The game of the round.
Verdict – Rabbitohs by 1-12
Result - Sea Eagles 14 defeated Rabbitohs 12
Brisbane Broncos vs North Queensland Cowboys – Friday night – Suncorp Stadium
Thank goodness both these sides won last week - it should mean another five or six thousand turn up on Friday night and we'll get to see a game of footy in front of a decent crowd for a change. All that cavernous emptiness at ANZ stadium certainly takes some shine off the game does it not? It's a little like those enormous wine glasses they give you at snooty restaurants - then they charge you $16 for a centimetre of semillon sauvignon bleugh. Just give me a normal wine glass and fill the darn thing I say. Sixteen bucks will get you a pie and a beer at Suncorp (both in plastic) but you'll also get to see what is usually a cracking game of football. There were positive signs for the Broncos and their makeshift playmaking roster in round one, but I think I need to see it one more time before I'm convinced.
Verdict – Cowboys by 4
Result - Broncos 16 defeated Cowboys 12
New Zealand Warriors vs St George Illawarra Dragons – Saturday afternoon – Eden Park
This is a Claytons home game for the Warriors, and if they've ever won a game at Eden Park I certainly can't remember it. I've ended up tipping them here but I can't say I'm brimming with confidence. Astonishingly, the Warriors are the shortest priced favourites all weekend. I have to say that backing the Warriors at $1.31 is a pretty unhealthy habit to get into. It's not crystal meth bad, but if your teenage children started taking $1.31 about our Kiwi cousins you'd be a very worried parent. They get picked here because I look at their line-up on paper and they just look tremendous. I can't say that about the Dragons, and they may have been flattered by a pretty woeful Tigers outfit. This will be a tough game for me to watch - I may have to close my eyes and think of Ms Thinker to get through it.
Verdict – Warriors by 2
Result - Dragons 31 defeated Warriors 12
Melbourne Storm vs Penrith Panthers – Saturday night – AAMI Park
Ms Thinker told me on our honeymoon that timing is everything, and the Panthers couldn't have picked a worse time to travel to deepest darkest Melbourne. Cooper Cronk returns from injury, Billy Slater plays his 250th game for the club, and Cameron Smith breaks the all-time club record with his 263rd appearance. And Smith has just re-signed for four more years in purple. Penrith impressed last week, but Melbourne in Melbourne is a tougher nut to crack than Newcastle in Penrith. Eleven losses from their last twelve meetings demonstrates just how tough it is.
Verdict – Storm by 10
Result - Storm 18 defeated Panthers 17
Sydney Roosters vs Parramatta Eels – Saturday night – Allianz Stadium
The Eels have taught me many things in recent years, but the most important thing they have taught me is thus - never, ever get carried away on the basis of one Parramatta performance. Time and again they follow up a good win with an embarrassing loss - against anyone. This time they are away from home and they face the defending premiers who don't want to start the season on 0 from 2. I'm hearing there's been a steady stream of bets for the Eels in this game. Madness I tells ya. Back the Roosters and get in the queue. You can trust me - I got 2 from 8 last week.
Verdict – Roosters by 12
Result - Roosters 56 defeated Eels 4
Gold Coast Titans vs Wests Tigers – Sunday afternoon – Cbus Super Stadium
The Dragons struggled to score points all season in 2013, but they racked up 44 in 80 minutes against the Tigers in round one. Can the Tigers turn things around in one week and contain the Titans on a warm afternoon at home? Erm no...no they cannnot. Aidan Sezer and Albert Kelly impressed me last week, and Sezer may be on the cusp of a breakout season. The Titans at $1.35 look a little skinny - better to consider the 9.5 handicap at $1.91. Or even better still, find one of those 'which half of the game will have the most points' bets, and back the second half. The Tigers will focus on their defense at training this week. We'll see some improvement in the first 40 minutes but, like The Thinker on his honeymoon, they can't keep it up for 80 minutes.
Verdict – Titans by 16
Result - Tigers 42 defeated Titans 12
Newcastle Knights vs Canberra Raiders – Sunday night – Hunter Stadium
I've talked forever about the importance of the spine of a team - numbers 1, 6, 7 and 9. There's some chance the Knights will be without their first choices in all those positions this weekend. Boyd and Mullen are definitely out, and Gidley and Roberts have been named but need to pass medicals. Even if they do pass and play their training this week will be interrupted. Canberra rarely perform when they travel to the Hunter but they were big winners on their last visit (44-14). Another win like that would surprise me but there were encouraging signs against the Cowboys. At pretty juuicy odds I'm willing to give them a chance.
Verdict – Raiders by 4
Result - Raiders 26 defeated Knights 20
Canterbury Bulldogs vs Cronulla Sharks – Monday night – ANZ Stadium
The list of unavailable Sharks for this game is quite a football team - Paul Gallen, Andrew Fifita, Luke Lewis, Anthony Tupou, Beau Ryan and Jeff Robson. Small mercies that Todd Carney and Chris Heighington should be back on Monday night, but I can't imagine those ins make up for all the outs. Both these sides were pretty insipid in attack in the first round. It can take a while for the attacking combinations to gel, but these sides look a long way from their best attacking footy at the moment. Back the unders, whatever it is, and take the home side.
Verdict – Bulldogs by 4
Result - Bulldogs 42 defeated Sharks 4
Wally Lewis - round two selections (in bold)
Note: tips from Wally will be published on Thursday night or early Friday morning.
- Sea Eagles vs RABBITOHS
- BRONCOS vs Cowboys
- WARRIORS vs Dragons
- STORM vs Panthers
- ROOSTERS vs Eels
- TITANS vs Tigers
- KNIGHTS vs Raiders
- BULLDOGS vs Sharks

The Guru is chasing fast cars this weekend so ill be like Gal (short) with the comments. Welcome to the ladder Mark and Johnny.
Souths : The Wascally Wabbits looked very good last week and I reckon they'll do it again.
Brisbane: Going on a prayer here, the 'G' needs a win and the Bronc's would like 2 in a row, they usually go pretty well in these.
Warriors: NZ better make up for last week, home turf says they will.
Melbourne: Surprised The Guru last week with a fantastic win over the Eagles. Too good not to back it up at home.
Sydney: The Chooks sorta need to win this, its only round two but a loss against the Eels wouldnt sit well at Bondi.
Titans: Another surprise packet from round one, the GCT should be good enough at home to see off the Toothless and soon to be Pottless Tigers.
Canberra: Newcastle wernt good enough last week to win this week. And if you're still following...The Raiders were good enough and will feel robbed of a win, enough to take this game very seriously. Ricky in an upset, by a bit.
Bulldogs: Could feel like Canberra ala the none for one, however this game could be a battle.

Awesome ! And we're back again for round two ! My thanks again goes out to The Thinker for including me in his Tipping Ladder along with himself and the great Wally Lewis, Mark Ashford and Guru Craig ! Thanks Thinker ! Let's get on with this week predictions :
Rabbitohs - You all know that trick we had when we were kids ? When somebody's sleeping you take glass of warm water, put their hand in it and then pee all over them !!! This is what I'm planning to see Rabbitohs do to Sea Eagles on Friday night. I would almost call this one a certainty !
That and god I hate Sea Eagles !!! I really, really, really, don't like them !!!
Cowboys - In a game they could go either way I'm going with The Thinker here with Cowboys to put win over Broncos. It's going to be close match.
Dragons - The Dragons as a team has been around for such a long time. So long in fact, I believe their original Latin name was Nothissh*tagain and for us NZ Warriors fans that true ! We can't win against St. Merge ! They always beaten us and they will always beat us, they really are our bogey team ! So whoever it was that decided we should play our bogey team in our bogey venue, must of taken Raiders to beat Cowboys last Saturday Night ! Crazy.
Storm - Yeah considered Ivan Clearly record against Craig Bellamy, dude I wouldn't be totes surprise if Penrose Panthers manage beat Melbourne on Saturday night ! Still you have got to go with The Thinker on this one ! Melbourne Storm to win this match in what really could be a close game !
Roosters - Y.O.W.O. You only win once Paramatta. Roosters to beat Eels.
Tigers - I am still really surprised by win Titans had on Monday night. Not just because I picked the Sharks but just because it's Titans. But then you look at the number of players that were out for Sharkies and factor in fact that Titans only got in front of Sharkies seconds after Paul Gallen had to be escorted off field due to ankle injury and they were just going to win ! Expect a different result from them up against Tigers who field full team !
Raiders - I don't know about you but me I never like give crisp dollar bills in my kids birthday cards because I hate to waste good betting machine money ! At $2.45 (NZ Odds) it's looks like I can finally buy that pony my sister's kid has always wanted ! Okay I admit it. I'm actually going to buy myself a Racehorse, but then hey, somebody needs learn how to share !
Bulldogs - Bulldogs are set to win this game against depleted Sharks side.
Thanks Thinker ! Go The NZ Warriors !!! Kiwi Power ! Peow ! Peow ! ;-D

Hello to The Thinker
I have joined a new tipping comp this year and they want the margins - as if it isn't hard enough to pick the winners - any chance you can give your margin predictions as well?
Submitted by mark ashford on
Hi Thinker. Thanks for the opportunity to be a guest tipster will try my best.
I'll give some margins for Barbara but please remember these are my guesses only when submitting your tips.
Rabbits too strong for Manly. No home ground advantage for either team and for Manly to let Storm run them down at home..it's Rabbits by 10.
I'm a Broncos supporter but think the Cowboys will be too classy for them this week. Another couple of weeks for the new boys to settle in and who knows. Cowboys by 4
Warriors will be filthy after flogging by last years wooden spooners. Look out Dragons it's Warriors by 8
Storm at home are nearly unbeatable. With Cam back on board for 4 more years and Cooper Cronk back it's Storm all the way and at least 12 points.
Roosters despite loosing SBW will give the improving Eels a lesson in racking up big scores. Chookies by 18
Titans and Tigers...depends which Titans team turns up. In an uninspiring game Titans by 10
Knights are in a bit of injury trouble here and despite being favourites I'm tipping Raiders after last weeks effort against the Cowboys. In a tough game it's Raiders by 4
Poor Sharkies are in all sorts of trouble. No Gallen or Fiffita and still ASADA drags on. Bulldogs to recover from their loss to the Broncos and win by 8.
Good luck to all!

Now you can include in the tipping competition now their will no or very little silly things this year okay
now here are my tips
Rabbitohs I think they should be too strong for Manly here
Cowboys I think Cowboys should be the Broncos here
Dragons I think Dragons will upset the Warriors here
Storm I think they should win this one
Roosters I think Roosters should beat the Eels
Titans I think Gold Coast to get home here
Raiders Knights have too many injuries here
Bulldogs I think Bulldogs should beat the Sharks here

christine forb 10 -- I figured out what was going wrong and I hope I fixed it for you. Feel free to try one more time, or just keep posting comments without signing in. No biggie.
a -- you're all set up now mate and I've input your tips from last week, per what you had tipped in the comments. That puts you in front. This week's are also in there.

As Dr Smith used to say all those years ago (if you're old enough to remember Lost In Space) .... "oh the pain, the pain". Geez it was hard watching my beloved Chooks go down last week against the Bunnies but credit where credit's due - the Bunnies did play awfully good footy. To cap off a rather disappointing start to my tipping, I only managed 2 out of 8. Ouch! Mind you, I did feel a little better knowing I got as many right as the Great One did so maybe there's hope for me yet.
I'll keep plugging away at this great caper and try and gain some wisdom from everyone here. Having said that, here's my tips (guesses) for this week. Cross fingers...
Rabbits
Broncos
Warriors
Storm Troopers
Roosters (obviously)
Titans
Knights
Doggies
Cheers guys and good luck to all.
P.S. Man it's good to be back! Woo-Hoo!

Thanks TLH, have just done so this very minute(s). I assume you will input my "guesses" each week for me from what I post here? That's the impression I get from reading above comments plus can't see a button to click on to submit the picks. Hmm, now you know why I call myself "newbie". Cheers.
P.S. What time is it over there? 11PM? Get to bed and get some rest, tomorrow's a big day! Nighty-night and thanks again.

All good nfp. I have a tiny bit of wiring to do to turn a registered visitor into a tipster, and now that's done for you, so you'll see a new link that wasn't there before.
I've updated your tips for last week (based on the comment on the season predictions page), as well as this week too.

Morning everyone,
A thousand standing ovations for my little helper and his efforts with our little tipping ladder.
Christine,
You certainly don't have to register or sign up if you don't want you. You are free to read the tips and free to post your comments here as you have always done. The sign-up and registration is just for people who are included in the tipping ladder. We aren't collecting your personal information for evil, it's just a way of making the tipping ladder a little more automated...automation gives my Little Helper some free time to live and laugh and love. He deserves nothing less.
Barbara,
I'll add some margins for you. Good luck with your comp.
Have a great weekend everyone.

Thanks for the margins Thinker not too much different to Mark (I definitely prefer his Doggies by 8 than your 4 though). I know I should do my own picks but it is so time consuming however it does make watching the games more interesting if in a comp. You will give the margins each week won't you? Thanks again and you have a great weekend too and more importantly a successful tipping year!!

Message to Thinker's Little Helper if I may:
1. The link for putting your tips in seems to have disappeared my friend. Gremlins in the system I wonder?
2. My brother is having the same problem as Christine forb 10 had last night. He's asked if I could bring it to your attention. If you have the time it would be appreciated. His username is Shanghai. Cheers.
Submitted by Thinker's Little Helper on
Hi newbie
Yup the link you saw disappears once we lock down the tips for the round, which happened around an hour or two ago. Fear not -- yours are here:
http://the-thinker.org/guest-tips/newbie-from-perth/2014-Round-Two
There will be a round three form after the weekend.
Regarding Shanghai, I can see he managed to sign in about 90 mins ago - not quite sure what the deal is. Rather than clutter up the comments here even more, just sling me an email and I'll sort it out.
The Thinker and I had a chat this morning and we're going to draw a line at this point under the number of guest tipsters for the time being -- it's good to have you all aboard but we want to be sure we can manage things through the whole season and putting a cap on the numbers involved makes a big difference there.
Good luck everyone

The Guru is back from his motoring jaunt as he found the perfect car, as if it were meant to be. That’s what the ‘G’ told the Mrs, when quizzed to explain the details of such a claim…the answer was simple, it’s a football car, the name has ‘Club’ and ‘Sport’ and it even has a number ‘R8’. Now back to the winners as The ‘G’ needs to save for future speeding fines.
Go the Bronco's! and thanks boys for the 212% return.
