Note: team line-ups are subject to change. Rosters will be updated as amendments filter through.

If something keeps working for you, it seems silly to change it. It can be said for Queensland coach Mal Meninga, and it can be said for The Thinker. Like Mal, I've racked up a reasonably handy record at tipping the result in Origin games, so I may as well take the same approach as I have in the past. So the question I ask myself is this - How many players in the NSW starting thirteen would be named in the QLD starting side? I can probably make a case for two of them (Paul Gallen and Brett Morris). Laurie Daley has named a very experienced (ie: old) NSW pack of forwards. They'll handle the occasion and keep this game close (as game one so often is), but in a game where try-scoring opportunities may be few and far between, that QLD backline has the skill and experience (and experience together) to turn those rare opportunities into points. This will be close, but the home side prevails for mine.

Enjoy the madness football fans?

Verdict : QLD 18 - NSW 14 (Result : NSW 12 - QLD 8)

First try scorer: Daniel Tupou (Result: Darius Boyd)

Man of the Match: Matt Scott
(Result: Jarryd Hayne)

Yes Mr. Thinker Yes.
Queensland by 6 in a spiteful game.
Gallen doesn't care about the Sharks only an origin victory so expect plenty of whinging and grubby tactics.
For years the Blues have tried every dirty trick in the book to upset the Maroons but the better team has always won.
GO YOU MIGHTY MAROONS!!!!

Wally is right. NSW don't understand this game we call Origin. Days gone, things were different, men weren't professional footballers and real hatred existed between the states, on the field anyway. Todays breed are athletes, some even celebrities and footballers as we know them are now rare.

This generation of Maroons are footballers, some of them are walking immortals who will be talked about as The Guru's father talked about the Maroon greats before them, King Wal included and 50years from now it'll be Slater and Smith, Lockyer and Thurston and plenty more. This team of Mal's is something very very special indeed.

A few words by our own King Wal in the paper the other day seems to be the most exciting news the media have so far for Origin 2014. Both sides are keeping quiet, come Thurston morning it'll be QLD 1-0 and we'll have a new story or two.

If NSW win the score will be 17-16 hodkinson field goal... however me thinks the 3 stooges from qld/melb storm have the refs bluffed with dirty tactics of their own.. so realistically qld 16 nsw 14

The Guru spoke too soon about the slow news week...Lets hope Brisbane sort out their dramas, they're not the sort of club to cheat.

Look for NSW to up the pace of the game, hearing whispers Loz will try and run the Qlders off their feet and exploit some of their age, particularly targeting Hodgo's side. Bombs are the go, Billy will be tested and expect a field goal shot before the half time hooter from NSW if the score is close and Gal has been practising his whinging so expect a fair bit of that.

QLD the 'G' hears have a couple of surprise inside plays for Slater and GI, Papalii has been given a job to cover the Grub and JT is about ready to put in a career best performance. QLD to match NSW speed with big defence.

QLD are looking good, Go the Maroons, QUEENSLANDER!!!
