History is a handy guide to everything, so I thought I'd go back and take a look at what I was thinkering in 2014. Back then, I posed the following question:
Which players in the NSW squad are good enough to be in the QLD squad?
I found Maroon jerseys for three of them - Jarryd Hayne, Paul Gallen and Brett Morris. Not one of them is lining up here. Much has been said of the age in the Queensland side, and with good reason, but providing they are all fit and in form I see this as a strength rather than a weakness. I have to assume the Queenslanders are fit, but when it comes to form I'll say this. Only one player in the QLD seventeen is with a club side outside the top eight. Thirteen of the seventeen are with clubs in the top four. More than half the NSW seventeen are in sides outside the top eight - more than half. Only three of them are with top four sides. Some might ask if these Queenslanders still have the hunger, and if they didn't lose the 2014 series I would ask the same question. They want this...and they're a better side than their opponent. In 2014 the Blues scored four tries in the entire series - that is one try for every hour of football played. Two of their more dynamic attacking weapons from last year (Hayne and Morris) are unavailable to them. Where will they score their points? Who do they turn to? I know that the first game of the series is usually a low-scoring affair but you still have to score something. I can't see enough points in them. I simply can't. It's highly likely this will be a dog fight. The officials are reluctant to blow their whistles and that will slow the game down considerably. That keeps this close, but I'll bank on the talent in that QLD backline. They've been doing this for a while, and they are successful more often than not. That so many of them work together at club level is another enormous bonus. Morgan comes in for Cherry-Evans, and his combination with Thurston is first-class. Will Chambers replaces Tate, and he knows the games of Smith, Cronk and Slater like the back of his hand. McGuire gets a well-earned debut off the bench, and three of his mates from the Broncos engine room are there alongside him. I'm happy to take $1.75 or thereabouts about a QLD victory, and I'm keen on Thaiday as first try-scorer at nice odds too. Gamble responsibly.
Verdict : QLD 18 - NSW 10 (Result: QLD 11 def NSW 10)
First try scorer: Sam Thaiday (Result: Cooper Cronk)
Man of the Match: Matt Scott (Result: Cameron Smith)

As far as Origin goes, I say that the unavailability of BLUEs Gallen and Bird, and poor form of Watmough has been the greatest blessing to NSW in a decade. These three some would rate by most as the heart of the forward pack, but history and anyone who knows their games individually knows, that NSW should now have about 20 less errors and 15 less indiscretions over this series. History will show that for the most part these three have been the ones that BLUE it, and at the heart of QLDs success. Making one BLUE after another with their boneheaded stupidity.
With a simple BLUEprint made up of cleaner sets, and sharper ball through the backline, the Maroons will be singing the BLUEs rather than Yippy-I-Aye. Two halves covering left and right will ensure ball out to flyers Jennings and Morris. For once in a BLUE moon, this will be BLUE ribbon quality.
As for who win the BLUEs? Well what a silly question. Maroons will wish you were out there with them King Wal. Gamesmanship used to work a treat when you were losing the fight.
BLUES by 16.
Jennings first try.
Morris - man of the match
Will be remenbered for the encore hippopotamus fanfare as that final whistle ... BLUE.

Yeah ... First off I just want to say as the resident Kiwi on this site that without us, New Zealand, AKA the number one ranked Rugby League country in world playing in this competition, State Of Origin is now nothing more but a sub par contest played by two lesser teams of an even lower total whole. So in other words don't get too caught up Australia on who wins this and loses this, none of it really matters or really means anything in end, not when there's still a team out there that can kick both of you guys asses ! Me, I'm going to go with team with home ground advantage on this one ! New South Wales by six points ! Man of Match Mitchell Pearce ! :-)

Well first Thiday got a no try when Jayrred Hayne knock it out and 2nd of all NSW got a pentaly fron the restart going out on the full when it should have been a goal line dropping to QLD from hitting a NSW player and bounced inside

It's hard to get good gerbil feeders these days.

I just want to take time since it's Origin to go into my Titans speech again. What marketing genius decided that Titans, a team based on the Gold Coast in Queensland, to play in New South Wales colours ? Can somebody please explain the logic behind that ? Because there is no logic behind that ! As much as I am fan of side, it is something that has always annoyed me and I just hope that who ever buys team next has sense to change their team colours back into maroon ... :-)

Well Brisbane Heat in cricket also have blue jerseys

Actually, the Titans and Cowboys colours are pretty similar

Panthers were originally teal and Sharks brown and white. An agreement was made to swap. When Penrith had a bit of teal in the jersey a few years ago, everyone complained how they were trying to look like the Sharks. Firstly, who in their right minds would want to be mistaken for a Shark, and secondly & more importantly, it was a tribute origins, true colours origins.
Curiously the Carolina Panthers NFL team whose color is ..... Teal, only formed in the 90s. Not saying they copied. Just saying ;p

Fifita and Klemmer are the keys because they both have the ability to get sucked into a bit of niggle. I dont have any doubts the grub-filled spine of the Maroons are onto this. The test will be their maturity. 7/10 will do. I'm hoping for higher.

Funny how right at this minute, Josh Maquire has no ability to play for Samoa, who he only lined up for a month ago.
The big dollar match payments have swayed his allegiance to QLD, and therefore to Australia in regard to internationals.
Saint Benny must have given him some financial advice in how to chase the dollar.
