Round nineteen selections

Parramatta Eels vs Canberra Raiders – Thursday night – Cbus Super Stadium

The big news out of Parramatta is Mitchell Moses, who fractured a vertebrae in his back in the early minutes of Origin game three. It's not season-ending and doesn't require surgery, but he's out for a while and obviously not playing in this. Jake Arthur returns and for an 18 year old his performances at the top level have been impressive. If he ever plays Origin for NSW, I'll be sure to remind you all he was born in Cairns which must be on the NSW north coast near Fingal Head. Arthur is working with Mahoney, Brown and Gutherson so it's still a very nice spine for the Eels. The spine of Moses...not so much. Junior Paulo and Blake Ferguson return for this game, giving the Eels plenty of size in the middle and their back three. For the Raiders, Wighton and the promising Savage (that's his name, not a description) are unavailable. Matt Frawley gets another chance in the halves and he is a steady influence with a good kicking game. While back to back wins for the Raiders against competitive sides indicates they are back on track, they'll need to go up another notch to win this. They could, but I'm reminded that these sides met in April in Canberra and the Eels gave them a footballing lesson.

Verdict – Eels by 8

Result – Raiders 12 defeated Eels 10

Sydney Roosters vs Newcastle Knights – Friday night – Sunshine Coast Stadium

Tedesco and Taukeiaho are back for the tricolours - a team that have battled injuries all season but still find themselves on the cusp of the top four. The only teams to beat them in recent months are the Storm and the Panthers. Their recent record against the Knights is easy reading for fans of the Chooks, winning nine of the last ten clashes. The Knights have named Ponga and Klemmer in their seventeen, but both failed HIA assessments during their capitulation to the Storm in round 18. The one time the Knights did beat the Roosters (in their last ten clashes) it was Ponga who almost won the game single-handedly. I hope he plays, because any game with Tedesco and Ponga on the field at the same time is worth watching. I might even drag myself onto the Bruce Highway and watch this one in person - I should probably get out a bit while I live in a state where I can.

Verdict – Roosters by 10

Result – Roosters 28 defeated Knights 8

North Queensland Cowboys vs Melbourne Storm – Friday night – Queensland Country Bank Stadium

In round 18 the Storm defeated the Knights 48-4, and they did that without Christian Welch, Josh Addo-Carr, Nelson Asofa-Solomona and Ryan Papenhuyzen. On top of that, the game was meant to be in Melbourne, but was shunted up to Queensland at late notice. The Storm had less time to relocate than every other team in the NRL...and it didn't matter. This week they are resting Cameron Munster, Dale Finucane and Felise Kaufusi, but they have proven time and again they can afford to do so. With Origin out of the way for another year, the Melbourne Storm can focus on defending their premiership. They are the most professional sporting team in this country, in any code, by a margin. They'll win this by a margin too. It's great to see Papenhuyzen back by the way. I was at Magic Round when he was knocked out and it wasn't pretty.

Verdict – Storm by 22

Result – Storm 20 defeated Cowboys 16

South Sydney Rabbitohs vs New Zealand Warriors – Saturday afternoon – Sunshine Coast Stadium

The Warriors drift toward the bottom of the NRL ladder is well and truly underway. They're now in 14th, set adrift from the top eight, and I expect they'll be caught by the Broncos in the weeks ahead. I salute them regardless after another difficult season. A few key big men are back for the Warriors this week in Bunty Afoa and Ben Murdoch-Masila, but they'll be missing Toha Harris, Wayde Egan and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck on Saturday. The Rabbitohs, to my eye, look like the only team that can compete with the Storm or the Panthers for a premiership this season, and the minor premiership is still a possibility. Latrell Mitchell and Jai Arrow are back in the seventeen this weekend, which doesn't hurt.

Verdict – Rabbitohs by 20

Result – Rabbitohs 60 defeated Warriors 22

Manly Sea Eagles vs Wests Tigers – Saturday night – Suncorp Stadium

I've been on and on about the importance of the Turbo to the Sea Eagles, but it's worth crunching the numbers again. He has played nine times for the Sea Eagles this season, and in those nine games they have scored 340 points and conceded only 120. If Turbo played in every game of the season, and Manly maintained those results, their points differential would be +416. That puts them just under the Storm, 90 points better than the Panthers and a long way ahead of everyone else. They won last week without him, and some of their exciting youngsters proved that Manly have a bright future ahead of them. Not only is the Turbo back, but his brother Jake returns too, and Daly Cherry-Evans is back after getting the night off last week. These sides last played on ANZAC Day and the Sea Eagles won 40-6. A similar result seems likely.

Verdict – Sea Eagles by 30

Result – Sea Eagles 44 defeated Tigers 24

Penrith Panthers vs Brisbane Broncos – Saturday night – Suncorp Stadium

A home game for the Panthers, of sorts. I was at Suncorp for the last game between these sides earlier in the season. The Broncos gave the game a real shake that night, and even got a standing ovation at half time. Still, the Panthers prevailed in the end, with Cleary scoring late in the game to seal the victory. They won because good teams find a way. The Panthers won't have Cleary this time, but Luai is back and will give the Broncos plenty of headaches. The Broncos were disappointing in the second half against the Tigers last Sunday, conceding six tries and scoring only once. It's not good enough, particularly against an opponent like the Panthers.

Verdict – Panthers by 22

Result – Panthers 18 defeated Broncos 12

St George Illawarra Dragons vs Gold Coast Titans – Sunday afternoon – Cbus Super Stadium

This is, for me at least, the most difficult game to pick in round nineteen. There's a raft of changes for both sides, making it even harder to assess the recent form. In the end, I've sided with the Titans whose record on the Gold Coast is better than it looks on paper. They've won four and lost four at Cbus, but their losses have been to the Rabbitohs (3rd), Eels (4th), Roosters (5th) and Sea Eagles (6th). The Titans are currently 11th but a win on Sunday (or even a competitive loss) could see them lift to 9th. If the competition gets trapped in Queensland for the rest of the season, they could be the one local side that can take advantage of that and make the top eight. Of the teams currently in the top eight, the Dragons are the most likely to drop out. To quote the great Peter Sterling - this is a very important game in the context of the season for both sides. Don't let me down Sterlo.

Verdict – Titans by 2

Result – Titans 32 defeated Dragons 10

Canterbury Bulldogs vs Cronulla Sharks – Sunday afternoon – Cbus Super Stadium

The Sharks have a very cosy run home and should hold onto their top eight spot, but they aren't in finals form. In the last month they have lost games to the Broncos and the Raiders. They did beat the Cowboys by 2 points and the Warriors by 8, but not convincingly. The Cowboys have lost five games in a row while the Warriors have lost six in a row. Having said all that, they're up against the Bulldogs here, so they can probably grind out another dour and uninspiring victory to keep their finals campaign on track. Bulldogs fans take note that they did beat the Sharks in round seven this season. They could win this and not surprise me, but I can't quite tip them. Can you believe Channel Nine have picked this as the Sunday afternoon game? Seriously...

Verdict – Sharks by 1

Result – Sharks 44 defeated Bulldogs 24

Greetings football fans

Tipsters might notice that the venue details in the tipping form are still incorrect. We will get that updated at the first opportunity but the first game of the round isn't far away so I thought I better get this out there. The correct venues are listed in my previews - needless to say all eight games are in QLD this week.

All the best

Goodness me it's freezing here in SE QLD at the moment and the confusion about who is playing where confounds some of us but it is still the 19th round of the season and we need some comments people.
Tevita Pangai Jnr to go to the doggies and the Broncs still have to pay $250,000 of his pay in 2022, with what the dogs have offered he will be almost a million dollar man next year. Exactly how many million dollar players have earned their pay, the mind boggles.

Hey everyone, my tips for this week are:

Eels by 6
Roosters by 18
Storm by 32
Rabbitohs by 16
Manly by 28
Panthers by 12
Dragons by 2
Sharks by 4

Awesome! Good luck with everyone's team for this week and with everyone's tips for this week. Cheers and enjoy the rest of your week everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Dia duit gach duine" i dteanga ní mo theanga féin,

Obviously we’ve all seen the comical entertainment provided by Lachlan Lewis on his way to the sheds at half-time last week. I can understand him putting out a little niggle walking off the field but what on earth was he thinking when he wrestled Walker to the ground 😱?

It was definitely a WTF moment but god it made me laugh 😁. I wonder what was said to him at half-time. Well at least he’ll be remembered for a long time to come. Onya Lachie, you’ve made Uncle Wally proud 🤪. OK, let’s do this thing …

Eels vs. Raiders 70-30 @ Cbus
Ladder Position = Eels
Bookies Favourite = Eels

Eels
The Eels led 20-0 at the break last week against the Titans. Mind you, they scored 3 tries while Proctor was in the bin so take that as you will. By the same token, they kept the Titans scoreless in that first half as well. A good enough first 40 nevertheless but they eased up considerably in the second 40. They’ll need to ramp up the intensity heading towards the pointy end of the season I reckon. Some stats possibly worth a mention:

Possession - 53%
Completion Rate - 80% (32/40)
Line Breaks - 9
Tackle Breaks - 36
Average Set Distance - 49.3m
Missed Tackles - 24
Ineffective Tackles - 18
Errors - 15
Penalties Conceded - 5

Raiders
The Raiders started pretty well last week against the Sharks and jumped out to a 10-0 lead after just 18 minutes. Maybe a bit lucky to get that 8 point try though. The Sharks fought back and it was 12-12 at the break. In the second half the Raiders found themselves behind 18-16 but then put on 18 unanswered points to run out comfortable 34-18 winners. Liked the way they came home last week. They stuck at it and deserved the win. Where has this form been all year? Good efforts from Savage (shame he’s out for the rest of the year) and Harawira-Naera. Some stats possibly worth a mention:

Possession - 54%
Completion Rate - 84% (31/37)
Tackle Breaks - 59
Average Set Distance - 51.3m
Missed Tackles - 22
Ineffective Tackles - 7
Errors - 6
Penalties Conceded - 6

Verdict: The Eels can’t afford to relax in the second half like they did last week if they wanna win against the improved Raiders. I’ll play it safe and tip the Eels.

Roosters vs. Knights 70-30 @ Sunshine Coast
Ladder Position = Roosters
Bookies Favourite = Roosters

Roosters
The Roosters found themselves 12 points down last week after Cowboys scored 2 tries in the first 14 minutes but the Roosters scored 34 points to 6 after that and ran out comfortable 34-18 winners. Mind you, the Roosters had to score 3 tries in the last 11 minutes to put the result to bed. Up until then it was anyone’s game. It was a pretty good effort getting themselves back into the match (the patient game impressed Trent though) and the Cowboys’ suspect edge defence certainly helped the Roosters’ cause. Some stats possibly worth a mention:

Possession - 52%
Completion Rate - 79% (34/43)
Line Breaks - 10
Tackle Breaks - 50
Average Set Distance Roosters 45.4m
Missed Tackles - 34
Ineffective Tackles - 21
Errors - 12
Penalties Conceded - 2
Ruck Infringements - 4

Knights
The Knights were simply outclassed last week. Down 30-0 at the break and 48-4 after the 80 minutes. Could’ve been more had the Storm not dropped off in their intensity in the second half. Considering the Knights lost Mitchell Pearce the day before the match and then Ponga and Klemmer early on, they were always going to struggle against the Storm to be honest. They may have done better had those 3 blokes been there for the full 80 but that’s just pure conjecture. Their previous form from the Cowboys win the week before somehow went MIA. At least they managed to get on the board and avoid the dreaded donut. Overall it was a fairly lacklustre display. Mind you, they were up against the red-hot Storm so maybe just forget that game, learn and work on a few things and move onto this week. Some stats possibly worth a mention:

Possession - 45%
Completion Rate - 76% (26/34)
Line Breaks - 1
Tackle Breaks - 22
Missed Tackles - 33
Ineffective Tackles - 22
Errors - 13

Verdict: Roosters. Begurk! 🐔 Begurk! 🐔

Cowboys vs. Storm 15-85 @ Townsville
Ladder Position = Storm
Bookies Favourite = Storm

Cowboys
The Cowboys started really well against the Roosters last week and were ahead 12-0 after just 14 minutes. Unfortunately the wheels fell off and they were outscored 34-6 thereafter and lost a disappointing one 34-18. All the damage was done in the last 11 minutes and up until then they were right in it. Their fragile right-edge defence cost them that match you’d have to say. The try they allowed Manu to score on the first half siren was pretty soft to be honest. Broadly speaking, the Cowboys’ defence seemed to fall away and their kicking game wasn’t up to par. Some more work to be done for sure. I thought Tabuai-Fidow had a cracker. He ran for 271 metres, had 6 tackle busts, 2 line breaks and he scored a try. Some stats possibly worth a mention:

Possession - 48%
Completion Rate - 74% (32/43)
Line Breaks - 6
Tackle Breaks - 34
Kick Defusal - 100%
Missed Tackles - 50
Ineffective Tackles - 23
Errors - 10
Penalties Conceded - 4
Ruck Infringements - 4

Storm
Another impressive effort from the Storm last week. Went about their job in a professional and clinical manner and did what good teams do. Great contributions from Hynes, Munster and Hughes. Some stats possibly worth a mention:

Possession - 55%
Completion Rate - 73% (33/45)
Line Breaks - 10
Tackle Breaks - 33
Average Set Distance - 45.8m
Missed Tackles - 22
Ineffective Tackles - 8
Errors - 12

Verdict: No brainer for me and everyone else I would think. Storm.

Rabbitohs vs. Warriors 75-25 @ Sunshine Coast
Ladder Position = Rabbitohs
Bookies Favourite = Rabbitohs

Rabbitohs
The Rabbitohs were a bit clunky in the first half last week against the Bulldogs and they headed into the sheds 12-10 behind. Courtesy of that brain fade from Lewis the Bulldogs were a man down for the first 10 mins of the second half and with Lewis off the field, Souths scored a converted try and a penalty and that 8 points was the winning margin in the end. Well done Lachlan 💪. The Rabbitohs were far from impressive but once again they did just enough to get home 32-24. I’m pretty sure WB wouldn’t have been all that happy. They came oh so close to losing that one but in the end they took advantage of the opportunities when they presented themselves. A win is a win. Some stats possibly worth a mention:

Possession - 57%
Completion Rate - 78% (35/45)
Tackle Breaks - 33
Missed Tackles - 10
Ineffective Tackles - 11
Errors - 10
Penalties Conceded - 3

Warriors
Geez the Warriors are doing it tough at the moment. But doing it with guts and doing it well. Great first half from the Warriors last week against the Panthers saw them head into the sheds just 16-10 down. And this was after they lost RTS, Harris, Berry and Egan. Basically no-one left on the bench but they defended wonderfully given the circumstances. In the end it was too heavy a load to carry and they went down 30-16. A really tough effort nevertheless. They should feel proud of how they took it right up to the Panthers. Their injury concerns are not doing them any favours at the minute and it’s gonna be hard for them in the run home. But as Nathan Browne said … "Playing with grit and commitment is far more beneficial than being technically sound.” So true Nathan. Some stats possibly worth a mention:

Possession - 54%
Completion Rate - 73% (32/44)
Tackle Breaks - 43
Missed Tackles - 37
Ineffective Tackles - 20
Errors - 11
Penalties Conceded - 0

Verdict: As much as I was unimpressed with their win last week, I still have to tip the Bunnies in this one. Having said that, I’d love to see the Warriors get up 😉.

Manly vs. Tigers 70-30 @ Suncorp
Ladder Position = Manly
Bookies Favourite = Manly

Manly
Manly were caught by surprise last week and at half-time the Dragons were 14-12 in front. Manly hit back in the second half and dominated the Dragons, finally running out deserved 32-18 winners. They really kept the defensive pressure on the Dragons and didn’t offer them much. They were just too good for the Dragons in the second half and standout efforts from Kieran Foran, Josh Schuster and Haumole Olakau'atu. Really liked the “fingertip” try Cade Cust scored I must say. The one Parker scored was beautiful to watch as well. Great pass from Foran to Parker who ran an absolutely beautiful line to score through the gap untouched. Love seeing that sort of stuff. Some stats possibly worth a mention:

Possession - 57%
Completion Rate - 78% (32/41)
Line Breaks - 6
Tackle Breaks - 45
Missed Tackles - 13
Ineffective Tackles - 11
Errors - 12
Penalties Conceded - 5
Ruck Infringements - 5

Tigers
The Tigers found themselves 6-0 down after just 5 minutes last week against the Broncos. They gradually started to get back into the game and at half-time they were 18-10 down. However, a 32-6 second half blitz earned them their dominant 42-24 win. It was a sparkling second half effort where they scored 6 tries, four of which came in a 12 minute period. What more can you say? Now, if only they were more consistent 🤪. Some stats possibly worth a mention:

Possession - 56%
Completion Rate - 85% (33/39)
Tackle Breaks - 24
Missed Tackles - 40
Ineffective Tackles - 20
Errors - 8
Penalties Conceded - 1

Verdict: Manly have too many “big guns” returning this week and “should” win this easy.

Panthers vs. Broncos 75-25 @ Suncorp
Ladder Position = Panthers
Bookies Favourite = Panthers

Panthers
Another impressive effort from the Panthers last week. Went about their job in a professional and clinical manner and did what good teams do. Great contributions from Brian To'o, Tyrone May and Moses Leota. Some stats possibly worth a mention:

Possession - 46%
Completion Rate - 82% (32/39)
Tackle Breaks - 37
Missed Tackles - 43
Ineffective Tackles - 31
Errors - 9
Penalties Conceded - 7

Broncos
The Broncos had a good start last week against the Tigers and headed into the sheds leading 18-10. Unfortunately they were smacked in the second half and lost 42-24 in what would’ve been a very disappointing result. They were never a chance once they allowed the Tigers to dominate that second half (6 tries, four of which came in a 12 minute period). Yikes! They were a chance, but only if Payne Haas was on the field. Man that guy is a good ‘un 💪. The Broncos were in front 24-20 with 30 minutes to go but poor discipline and poor defence let them down and the wheels fell off. Some stats possibly worth a mention:

Possession - 44%
Completion Rate - 70% (21/30)
Tackle Breaks - 38
Missed Tackles - 24
Ineffective Tackles - 24
Errors - 10
Penalties Conceded - 6

Verdict: Panthers.

Dragons vs. Titans 40-60 @ Cbus
Ladder Position = Dragons
Bookies Favourite = Titans

Dragons
After a fairly even first half contest last week the Dragons led Manly 14-12 heading into the sheds. It was a different story in the second half though. Manly came out and simply dominated the second 40 and the Dragons went down 32-18. The Dragons looked good at various times in the second half but Manly’s defensive pressure kept them at bay. They did manage a second half “consolation” try but they were never in the hunt in that second half. They missed too many tackles, gave away too many silly penalties and had too much dropped ball to mount a challenge last week. Some stats possibly worth a mention:

Possession - 43%
Completion Rate - 68% (28/41)
Line Breaks - 2
Tackle Breaks - 13
Missed Tackles - 45
Ineffective Tackles - 10
Errors - 14
Penalties Conceded - 4
Ruck Infringements - 4

Titans
It was a disappointing first half from the Titans last week. They were (sorta) in it until Proctor got binned. While Kevin was having some “reflection time” the Eels scored 14 points and at the break the Titans found themselves 20-0 down. The Titans did receive some dubious calls but there was a slight lack of discipline which didn’t help. They improved a little in the second half and actually won that second half 8-6 but the damage had been done and they went down 26-8 in the end. At the end of the day they didn’t look like they were ever a chance. Some stats possibly worth a mention:

Possession - 47%
Completion Rate - 68% (26/38)
Line Breaks - 4
Tackle Breaks - 24
Missed Tackles - 36
Ineffective Tackles - 33
Errors - 13
Penalties Conceded - 3

Verdict: Tough one for mine. I’m leaning ever so slightly towards the Titans in this one.

Bulldogs vs. Sharks 30-70 @ Cbus
Ladder Position = Sharks
Bookies Favourite = Sharks

Bulldogs
The Bulldogs played very well in the first half last week against the Rabbitohs and after falling behind 10-0 they turned it around and were leading 12-10 going into the sheds. We were then treated to some comical entertainment on the way to the sheds from Lachlan Lewis. Mate, what were you thinking 😁. His binning for the first 10 minutes of the second half didn’t do the Bulldogs any favours. With Lewis off the field, Souths scored a converted try and a penalty and that 8 points was the winning margin in the end. Makes you think. The Bulldogs have now had 2 really red hot cracks in a row (Roosters and Souths) so maybe they’re on the improve. Time will tell I suppose. Eventually the Bulldogs went down 32-24 and even though they had a little lapse with discipline there was plenty to be pleased about with their performance. Well, except for Lachlan maybe 😉. Some stats possibly worth a mention:

Possession - 43%
Completion Rate - 73% (24/33)
Tackle Breaks - 10
Missed Tackles - 33
Ineffective Tackles - 11
Errors - 9
Penalties Conceded - 6

Sharks
The Raiders went to a 10-0 lead last week but the Sharks fought back and scored a couple of tries and it was all locked up at 12-12 heading into the sheds. There was encouraging signs for the Sharks at the start of the second half. Even though they fell behind 16-12, Mulitalo got one back and the Sharks were in front 18-16. Unfortunately for the Sharks, the Raiders put on 18 unanswered points and the Sharks lost a disappointing one 34-18. Some ill-discipline and missed tackles didn't help and their edge defence let them down (especially in the second half). Not sure what happened but they seemed to struggle in the second 40. Not one of Johnson’s better efforts to be honest. Then again, he wasn’t the only offender. Some stats possibly worth a mention:

Possession - 46%
Completion Rate - 69% (24/35)
Tackle Breaks - 21
Missed Tackles - 62
Ineffective Tackles - 31
Errors - 10
Penalties Conceded - 4

Verdict: My tipping season is shot so just for “shiggles” I’m gonna tip the Bulldogs.

Let’s finish off with another “Song of the Week”.

Not a great fan of this genre but there are just a few that I do like and this guy’s one of them. This is bound to freak a lot of you out but I’m hoping one or two will like it. Apologies if this wastes your time and if so, just remind yourself that I am Newbie and my taste in music is varied and sometimes strange 🤪. Peace!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQRww_yhVpQ

OK kids, good luck with your tipping and may your team win by 40 points! Until next week. Cheers 🐔 🐔 🐔

@Mark

He might get a premiership ring with the Panthers this season too.

Regarding his salary, I think the $250,000 the Broncos are chipping in is part of his Bulldogs salary, and not on top of it. Still, he'll be on nearly $750,000 for three years...so he can buy us a lunch :-)

The Broncos are also helping the Warriors pay for Matt Lodge, and if Milford finds a club the Broncos will be helping to pay for that too.

It's a funny business...rugby league.

The Thinker's picture

And...my little helper has updated the tipping form with the correct venues for this round....he's been up all night I imagine.

Thank you sir

Baggy, like you I love the Blue & Gold ... but I couldn't help feeling a little relief when Gutho missed that conversion near the end of the match !
If the boys were going to win I didn't want it to be off the back Dylan Brown being called onside for Mika's try. ( I've seen other footage besides what they showed on channel 9).
I was hoping like hell they could still pull it off in the dying minutes,
but why are we put in these moral dilemmas ? Exactly WHO are the incompetent dickheads in that bunker and why are they not already looking for another job !!!
From our lounge-chairs we can see Brown was in front of the kicker !
How much does all that "state-of-the-art" equipment they have at their disposal cost ?
And , much more importantly, HOW much are those Bunker Buffoons being paid ??
COME ON ANNESLEY - show some ticker and make the statement all other bunker officials need to hear ! And you need to back him Abdo!
We fans would all back you to the HILT.

It's these really obvious ones that make me boil .. okay, no-one went to hospital, it wasn't finals football, but with a conversion it could have turned the game.
Bunker buffoons need to understand that EVERY game matters and I for one want the wheat separated from the chaff BEFORE we get to so called "important matches".

The Thinker's picture

One more breach of the COVID protocols by the NRL players, staff, families etc and I'd say they'll be kicked out of QLD.

That would (probably) mean the season is over - because there's nowhere else to go.

The Thinker's picture

Thanks Mary...let's see if the NRL lasts that long.

I imagine the lads at Penrith will be annoyed with Api if the Panthers very real chance at a premiership gets taken away from them.

mark ashford's picture

Thinker,
When the NRL announced the wives, families and girlfriends of the NRL players were being flown into QLD my first thought was here we go.
Breaking of the quarantine bubble will follow. Not to be unkind to our NRL players and their partners but they are not (some of them) the sharpest tools in the shed. Young healthy people think they are immune to Covid 19 and perhaps they are but can still be spreaders with no symptoms.

mark ashford's picture

Newbie,
You know I don't like "rap music" but watched this clip to the end. Had a bit of trouble following all the lyrics but I think I got the message. Probably would have listened harder if he had less tatts but hey thats me.

Mary S's picture

What a 'cracker' of a match between Cowboys and Storm!!!

Storm were expected to win by a far greater margin than 4 points, but Cowboys certainly took the fight to them for 80 mins.

Even though I tipped Storm to win, I would have loved to see Cowboys rewarded for their great effort tonight. Why don't they play like that more often?
Cheers,
Mary

MGM's picture

Mary, I think we all tipped the Storm but how good is it to watch the unexpected unfold in front of our eyes.
Your Cowboys have lots of talent in their lineup and it was great to see them live up to their potential !

MGM's picture

Now I'm watching the Broncos give Penrith a run for their money.
How good is round 19 so far!
But who is that on the side line next to Kevvy Walters with the headphones on ... has he got a twin brother ??

Mary S's picture

Hi everyone,
Comments have dried up of late!!!

Thought there might have been some comments from Bronco supporters on the game last night - it was great seeing them push the Panthers.

Cheers,
Mary

Hi Mary S & MGM
Bit disappointed in the Eels performance but the rest of the games pretty much went as expected. Yes the Cowboys and the Broncs gave the two premiership favourites a run for their money. Not even sure who is playing who next week as I have a very strong distraction in my life just now and she happens to be a Collingwood supporter. God help me if I have to switch codes as my AFL knowledge is limited.

Don’t worry that’s an easy transition
Collingwood lose as often as Broncos.

Just to help you along Mark - next week's matches (R 20) are listed below!!
Thurs Roosters v Eels - Mackay
Frid Tigers v Warriors - Suncorp Stadium

How staunch a Collingwood supporter is your new lady? She should easily be able to embrace another code, as females are renowned for being able to do several things at once!!!!!! Cheers.

Hey Mary S
Thanks for the fixtures, all you left out were your suggested tips! haha.
I'm slowly converting my friend to the NRL and hoping she will be a Broncos supporter. Yes you ladies seem to be able to do several things at once which amazes me. I'm being spoiled and loving it, find it hard to concentrate on RL just now.

I imagine poor steel is finding it hard to concentrate just at the minute to put it mildly the Warriors look like a basket case

Hey Rocket...don't worry I'm used to it. There has been way more lows than highs since the Club formed in 1995. The weekend showed all the usual traits of a heartless team who have no pride in the jersey. The most shocking aspect was the goal line defence which didn't exist. You'll see that the Warriors have now released RTS so he can return to NZ before the travel bubble closes. A nice gesture for a true champion who, above all, has sacrificed the most over the past two seasons. If only those around him week in, week out showed the same commitment and passion. A real shame he won't get the send off he truly deserves!!

To make you feel a bit better, the Warriors play the Tigers this week and I can see the result already, the Tigers will play the warriors back into form with a solid win.
It;s hard being a fan mate. I believe the Warriors are still above the Broncos on the table.

Cheers

Hey Tigerholic,

I can see the Broncos jumping us. We still have to play them and the Bulldogs. Another season shot and already looking to next year (again).

I will be backing your Tigers this weekend.

Steel

I will too but more out of desperation mate.

Hi Steel,
Given the COVID situation, and the resulting relocation the Warriors have had to contend with, that the other 15 teams haven't had to (to the same extent), I put the Warriors at the top of the ladder for their commitment to the sport, even if fans are frustrated with their performance.

Frustration, I'm sure is a common feeling to all fans, whose teams are not doing as well as we think they are capable of!!!
Cheers,
Mary

Hey Steel
Mate if you feel down about the Warriors just spare me a thought about the Broncs. At least your team in adverse conditions (covid) have shown some heart from time to time. Who knows where we will be in 2022 but there is always hope for you and me, keep that Kiwi chin up.
