Penrith Panthers vs Canterbury Bulldogs – Thursday night – Pepper Stadium
Some positive signs from the Panthers in their narrow loss to the Raiders, but that form looks shy of what the Bulldogs took to Brookvale. The Panthers are on the quick back-up from a game played in stifling conditions, and there's a risk they'll be on tired legs at the back end of this game. Both sides lost their first choice hooker last weekend, with the injury to Segeyaro likely to have the most impact. Tyrone Peachey pulls on the nine jersey for the home side - he's loaded to the gills with speed and agility but the additional workload in defence could prove telling. I was optimistic about the Bulldogs prospects this season - I suppose I should start tipping them.
Verdict – Bulldogs by 10
Result - Bulldogs 18 defeated Panthers 16
Brisbane Broncos vs New Zealand Warriors – Friday night – Suncorp Stadium
I don't even know what the Warriors are anymore? I've been calling them enigmatic for about 20 years but it's more than that. I don't have the words. The Broncos approached game one of the season like a reticulated python - strangling the life out of the Parramatta Eels to ensure the final outcome was never in doubt. I expect more of the same. The Broncos will keep plenty of tricks in their back pocket until late in the season, but for now they'll keep on doing what needs to be done. Jack Reed returns in the centres to replace the injured Kahu. Onward and upward.
Verdict – Broncos by 8
Result - Broncos 25 defeated Warriors 10
Canberra Raiders vs Sydney Roosters – Saturday afternoon – GIO Stadium
I spoke of the Raiders depth last weekend, and we're already pulling out the fathometer on the green machine. Aiden Sezer and Blake Austin are hitting the benches for a while, and both looked good pre-injury last weekend. Lachlan Croker, nephew of Jason and some sort of distant relation of Jarrod, makes his NRL debut alongside Sam Williams. Daniel Tupou replaces Joe Burgess in an otherwise unchanged line-up. Burgess may have scored two tries in his NRL debut but to my eye the Englishman has some work to do on his defensive reads - let's call him a work in progress. You could hardly tip the Roosters with any confidence after the first round loss but those key injuries to the Raiders have me leaning ever so slightly their way. How about that? I got to use the word 'fathometer'.
Verdict – Roosters by 2
Result - Raiders 21 defeated Roosters 20
South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Newcastle Knights – Saturday afternoon – ANZ Stadium
Three NRL coaches made their debuts for their new clubs in round one - and they all lost. Knights coach Nathan Brown was one of them, and the sleepless nights may have already started given their demoralising loss to the team most have tipped for the wooden spoon this year. The Bunnies were better than I expected last week, and sometimes you just have to believe your eyes. Reynolds and Sutton are injured (again), but the home side should be too good regardless.
Verdict – Rabbitohs by 10
Result - Rabbitohs 48 defeated Knights 6
Parramatta Eels vs North Queensland Cowboys – Saturday night – Pirtek Stadium
The Cowboys record at Pirtek Stadium is, let's be blunt, pretty crap really. Six wins from 17 games is a poor return by any standard, but when you consider how good some of those Cowboys sides have been and how poor some of those Eels sides have been...it beggars belief. Keiran Foran puts his hand up for the Eels for the first time, and he stands alongside one of the better Eels line-ups we've seen in quite a while. The Eels never looked likely against the Broncos, but that form may stand up this season. They showed some weaknesses on the edges in round one which need addressing. Jonathan Thurston and Michael Morgan have the game to make them pay if they haven't. The Cowboys did enough to beat the Sharks last weekend, but their form was well shy of what we saw from them at the back end of season 2015. It's a genuine upset, and it's not for everyone, but the Eels for mine.
Verdict – Eels by 4
Result - Eels 20 defeated Cowboys 16
Cronulla Sharks vs St George Illawarra Dragons – Sunday afternoon – Shark Park
Two sides returning from losses on the road but it's the Sharks I'm keen on to atone here. They get an extra couple of days to recover and you'd expect a bumper crowd at Shark Park for what is one of those bitter local derbies. Paul Gallen and Chris Heighington are unavailable but the Sharks are never short of firepower up front. The Dragons bumbled their way around AAMI Park on Monday night in what was arguably the poorest quality game of the round. How long they persist with Dugan in the centres is anyone's guess, but it looks like the wrong move to me.
Verdict – Sharks by 8
Result - Sharks 30 defeated Dragons 2
Melbourne Storm vs Gold Coast Titans – Sunday night – AAMI Park
Some of you may remember Brad Gilbert, the American tennis player who made a career out of winning ugly. Even at their ugliest, the Storm still seem to find a way to win. Coach Craig Bellamy, once a great female tennis player himself, would have saved some of his swearing on Monday night for the dressing room. I expect the Storm to respond, but even if they don't they'll probably win ugly anyway - particularly at home where the Titans have won just once from five attempts.
Verdict – Storm by ugly
Result - Storm 34 defeated Titans 16
Wests Tigers vs Manly Sea Eagles – Monday night – Leichhardt Oval
The Sea Eagles were clunky in round one, and it may take them some time before these new combinations gel...if they ever do. The addition of Starling and Lawrence to the forward pack is a good thing but I'm not sure that's where the problems lie. The Tigers started well in season 2015 and they've come out of the blocks again this year. Keeping it up for 26 weeks is the challenge, but I'm prepared to tip them at pretty decent odds to win again. Take note of the Sea Eagles uninspiring record at Leichhardt too.
Verdict – Tigers by 2
Result - Tigers 36 defeated Sea Eagles 22

Sorry Thinker for not getting round 1 tips in, I had to go up to Townsville as my old man was having a cancer operation, but if allowed I would like to keep playing.
I have picked for round 2,
Dogs by 14, how good were they in round 1
Broncos by 10, just too good
Raiders by 4, at home and I thought the roosters just had nothing to offer
Rabittohs by 10, even with Sutton and Renolds out they will be too good for the Knights
Cowboys by 6 in the game of the round, should be a cracker.
Sharks by 2, toss of a coin and home advantage as Dragons unlucky in the first round with some bad calls I think.
Storm by 10, too good for Titans here I think.
Eagles by 4, but they would have to improve by 100% on last weeks performance, which I think they will.
All the best everyone and g'day to the new comers.
GO the Cowboys!!!!

Rightio, lets see if i can get better than 50% and start to climb up the ladder before it gets to tall to conquer.
Bulldogs - The Panthers looked good in parts, the Bulldogs looked better. The Panthers proved that they are a good side with their combinations coming back together, but against a Bulldogs side that all but shut out Manly last week, I don't know, it seems like me they have a mountain to overcome. Maybe week 3.
Warriors - They got their act together in the back half of the game last weekend, and the Broncos, while doing enough to get the win, didn't do much in the second half. I also think that with a second game in Australia that should help ground the Warriors before a packed house. Early Broncos lead that just isn't big enough for when the Warriors find tired players in the second half.
Roosters - Losing the 2 live wires of your team in round 1, makes me think back to last year and the Panthers. Good back up there, but I think that missing those 2 against a Roosters side that is desperate for a win means that a lose is on the cards for the Raiders.
Roosters - Can't argue with the Thinker on this one, 2 Burgess's in the starting line up, great backs, and a team dynamic that is on a buzz after thrashing the Roosters. It feel like a case of good knight nurse.
Eels - Last year we took their left side apart, we scored 30 odd points, and then lost in 15 minutes. The pain is still there, the pride is still there and we have a better team than last year. Looking at the Cowboys last week, they weren't amazing, but their defence was solid. Looking at the Eels last week, our defence was soft and our attack softer. Foran and Norman will help that, and Flash running off a Manu Ma'u bust and off load will be one of the prettiest sights this round. Go the BOYS!
Sharks - The Sharks went close to beating the Cowboys last week, and the Cowboys are a better team than the Storm. The Dragons were good, but lacked the points that made last years team so dangerous. But the problem with looking at that is the Storm like the Ponies are a low score game, unless they are blowing the other team off the park. The loss of Paul shouldn't hurt the sharks except in heart of the team as the replacements are top shelf. First game at Shark Park should be a blinder with the home team showing the fans that they aren't pretenders, but contenders.
Storm - Haven't seen the game between the Titans and the Knights, so hard to say weather the score was based around unstoppable Titans skill and go forward, or the Knights shonky defence. The Storm as mentioned previously don't like points scored against them, while scoring enough to win the game without question. That means that the above question will be answered here. Storm to defend and then punish the Titans on their own line.
Tigers - The wonderful thing about Tiggers, is Tiggers are wonderful things. And they bounce well. Good news, last week was no dead cat bounce and the Tigers are a team with cohesion, go forward, and obviously belief in their abilities. They stopped the Warriors when it looked as though they were getting back into the game with a late burst, and they have swapped out a guy who did well with a guy who has form from last year. Hard to saw which Manly side will make the trip from the beaches of slaughter, but I'm not sure that it will matter.

Awesome. I only got three out of eight last week with my picking and so understandably I'm little upset. Not "I asked for Fillet O'Fish and a large Sprite" upset, dude more like "What do you mean you're out ? It's March. Bitch, I want my Shamrock Shake ..." upset. Let's get on with this week's tips. Good luck everybody and cool, congratulations again to a for getting to top of ladder with her picks :
Bulldogs - Depleted Panthers side playing against Bulldogs. Even playing at home in Penrith I can't pick Panthers here and considering what they did to Manly Sea Eagles in Brookvale, I'm picking Dogs here to win and to win big. 32-14 to Canterbury Bulldogs.
Broncos - NZ Warriors have the team it's just they can't play as one and that's why I'm picking Broncos to put one over them in this game. It could be close, their could be alot of points score in this game to both teams but because it's Broncos I'm sorry I can't see it so I don't even know if I want to watch this game. 46-12 to Brisbane Broncos.
Raiders - Raiders have lost their star halves but Roosters aren't going to come back from huge loss like they had last weekend playing away from home in Canberra. It will be close but I'm going with the home team here. 20-18 to Canberra Raiders.
Knights - Rabbitohs may of win big last weekend but don't let that fool you as they also lost alot of big name players to injuries in that game. So looking at their line up and looking at Knights I'm sensing an upset here. Again it will close game and could go either way but I'm taking away team here. 16-10 to Newcastle Knights.
Cowboys - You know The Thinker does raise some interesting points especially one about how you should always learn to leave toilet seat down because you never know when you're going to meet right woman, but then as mad smart as he is, he's also forgetting one major important thing with this game. It's the Cowboys ! Cowboys ! 2015 Grand Final Winners ! They're not going to lose to Eels ! Yes it will be another close tight game but come on ! 24-18 to Nth Queensland Cowboys.
Dragons - Sharks sans Paul Gallen along with couple of other players has me leading to Dragons in this big huge giant rivalry match up game. 32-28 to Dragons.
Storm - Titans to lose here and lose bad. 48-16 to Melbourne Storm.
Sea Eagles - As good as West Tigers were against NZ Warriors the Sea Eagles are even better. 26-20 to Sea Eagles.
Thanks again Thinker. Thanks everybody. Bye now ! ;-D

Here are my tips
Bulldogs by 1 I think it is going to be a very close contest Bulldogs to win by 1 here
Broncos by 6 God help me if it wasn't for the Warriors I would have got a perfect round last round Broncos by 6
Roosters by 8 Raiders are without there halves should be a walk in a park for the Roosters
Rabbitohs by 10 Injures from Souths will not worry them at all
Cowboys by 4 My boys will make it 2 rom 2 this weekend
Sharks by 6 It might be a bit sartastic but Sharks always seem to do better without Gallen
Storm by 12 Storm big 3 will do it here
Tigers by 1 I think Tigers will win in a thiller here

Hi all
3 teams need massive improvement this week. Warriors, Roosters and Manly. They were very ordinary last week and I'm sure will do better.
Round 2 I like:
Doggies (so strong last week)
Broncos (by a whisker)
Roosters (Blake Austin and Aiden Sezer out)
Rabbits (blew the Roosters away)
Cowboys (just can't tip the Eels yet)
Sharks (good show against the premiers)
Storm ( have the Titans ever beaten Storm LOL)
Manly ( Manly played their worst game ever last week, will improve)
Thanks Thinker & TLH for this site, I'd almost forgotten how much fun it is.
Good luck to you all (and your teams!)

Hi Thinker. Bummed that I didn't get into the comp but hey, at least I can tip on this site week in, week out.
My tips for this week are:
Bulldogs by 16- Bulldogs to get another big win here.
Broncos by 10- Broncos too good here.
Roosters by 8- Raiders have lost there halves. I think Roosters will get them here.
Rabbitohs by 32- Do I have to explain why?
Cowboys by 14- Cowboys too good here.
Dragons by 4- I think that this derby match will be tight this week.
Storm by 22- Titans played well last week, but that was against Knights. This time they're playing a more classier Storm side who will smash the Titans here at home.
And Manly by 2- Tough one for me. But I think Manly in a tight one I guess.
Thanks Thinker and the crew and good luck this week and just a congratulations to a for getting 7 last week, unlucky with the Warriors. Hope for your sake that you get 8 this week. Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!

Before we all get carried away with Round 1 results, let me remind what tomorrow night's game means.
Assuming the NRL is a fair dinkum playing field (and it's not), this should have been the venue for Preliminary Final 2014. Not only losing home ground advantage, but also giving the home ground advantage to the Dogs. Still cuts deep and although it's not for quite the same prize tomorrow, the team and the fans are in no doubt what this is about. A win and waving ta-taa to Dogs supporters trundling out would be nice.

Giddy Folks
Although last week I was proved wrong in not tipping the Tigers as they upset the Warriors, it is a long season and you have to apply a little bit of common sense and control when tipping with or against your team.
I have not tipped them again this week, even though they are playing at Leichhardt Oval, Manly won't p[lay that bad again and I see them getting past us in a close one.
Obviously I love the Tigers, I really hope they do well and maybe even make the finals but I am not confident.
I must say that the new Bunker review system was fantastic, I did not see any flaws in the new system nor did I see any mistakes made. Well done to the NRL for this innovative change to the game.
Come on Rocket Ryan, where are your tips?

I don't know bad you suffered from Tigerholism, I imagine you have been unable to give up your Tiger jarmies, but your program has worked you would appear completely cured from following and tipping the Tigers, they were good Saturday and showed a bit to steady and hold of the Warriors, and Manly were in Disneyland, surely you could of tipped them this week, Maybe we could..........., what do you say Mark Ashford , Broncos swimmer, how about we send him a Broncos beanie and rename him Broncoholic!

Boys, its a long season ahead and please do not stop as I love the banter between all parties. Its so good to have the footy back again.

Just on the discussion of tipping your BOYS. Weather or not you support the JT'S, the one trick Ponies (Friday night special), Collingwood of Sydney, or Cactus Island Raiders. https://youtu.be/lu3VTngm1F0?t=54s
Somedays your side can't pick itself off the canvas, and other day's a team that contained 17 clones of superman can't stop them. For me, if (when) I lose this years tipping competition, If I have maintained the rage for Parramatta, then I've won. If I win and only back the boys when I think they can get up, am I a true fan, or just a band wagoner? That is my point of view and I will express it strongly and proudly.

Hi everyone,
Not a great start to my tipping year last week but there’s always hope. Hard to accept my beloved Roosters are sitting at the bottom of the tree, albeit on points differential, but we’ll move on up after this week when we eke out a hard fought win against the Green Machine. I’ll be devastated if we don’t.
OK, let’s get this show on the road eh? For what it’s worth, here’s my tips. Got a good feeling about this week. Then again, that could just be the medication talking.
Bulldogs - after last Friday’s effort, you’d think the Doggies are an absolute moral here.
Broncos - sorry JR but need the tipping points. Ponies at home and current form has me ticking the box next to their name.
Roosters - I know I shouldn’t tip ‘em but they’re my boys and the Raiders have a couple out don’t they? Chooks to just get in.
Rabbitohs - if they play like they did against us last week, poor old Knights are gawn. Yeah, some big “outs” for the Bunnies but still…
Cowboys - like I did last year, gonna ride this one until they fall off their horses. Yee-Hah!
Dragons - not confident at all with this game but I’m thinking STG might have a chance here.
Storm - at home again with the same result but possibly by more points than last week. I’m with the boys in purple (geez I hate that colour).
Tigers - gotta jump on the bandwagon here considering the Tiger’s effort last week and Manly’s lack of one. Roaaar!
OK kids, good luck with your tipping and may your team win by 40 points! Until next week people. Cheers.
P.S. Why isn’t there mouse-flavoured cat food? Hmmm…

Well done "a" on your tips last week! You came up a little short, but I'm guessing you're used to hearing that :)
Let's go!
Bulldogs. I think the way the dogs played last week puts them firmly in front here. Plus the Panthers had a tough game in the heat with a short turn around.
Warriors. They seem to always play well against the Broncs, and I think they just came out of the blocks a little slow last week. They've copped it deluxe over there the past week and should come out firing.
Roosters. Yea they sucked last week, but Canberra without Austin and Seizer? Nah.
Rabbitohs. It'll be a minor miracle if the Knights can jag a win here.
Cowboys. I still think the Eels will do well this year, they just lucked out by having their first two games against the Premiers and the runners up.
Dragons. They were surprisingly ok-ish last week against the Storm. Russell Packer is a great addition. No Gallen in the Sharks either.
Storm. Titans won't come within coo-ee of the Mexicans.
Sea Eagles. They'll be better this week. The Tigers had a false dawn last week. ..they beat the team with the worst first round record ever, and even then they were lucky to escape the second half. Beating the Warriors in the first round is like sex with a prostitute. It feels ok for a minute, but you know it doesn't mean shit and no one will respect you for it.
Good luck peeps!
