Canberra Raiders vs Manly Sea Eagles – Friday night – GIO Stadium
Manly have built up quite an imposing record over the Raiders in recent years - winning 10 of the last 12 and the last five in a row in Canberra. While they haven't won a game for a while their last three opponents have been the Sharks, Broncos and Cowboys. This game will feel more winnable, and they've had an extra week to prepare. The weather in Canberra will be crisp but not unbearably so, and I'm prepared to take a punt on the visitors at very long odds. Jamie Lyon swaps with Dylan Walker and moves into the halves with Cherry-Evans. On paper it looks a well-balanced side, and it just might work.
Verdict – Sea Eagles by 2
Result - Raiders 30 defeated Sea Eagles 18
New Zealand Warriors vs Brisbane Broncos – Saturday afternoon – Mt Smart Stadium
The Broncos have lost two games in a row which is unusual, and even more unusally the scores in both games were identical. Four of their six Origin stars return on Saturday, with Oates and Gillett getting a break as part of some sort of list management program at the Broncos. The Warriors were put on notice after their big loss to the Raiders two weeks but how many times have we heard that now? I've stopped listening and it feels like the Warriors aren't listening either. In recent weeks the Warriors have been conceding more points than almost everyone, and I'll be backing Milford to wreak havoc on Saturday and pick up a four pointer at some stage of proceedings. This is the time of year the Warriors usually get on a bit of a run, but I won't be tipping them until I see some vigour and spirit.
Verdict – Broncos by 10
Result - Warriors 36 defeated Broncos 18
North Queensland Cowboys vs Newcastle Knights – Saturday night – 1300SMILES Stadium
I was lucky enough to be at SMILEY Stadium for this clash in 2015. The Knights won, and it beggars belief when you look at where these sides are right now. The Knights were unlucky to lose in round 12, but all the luck in the world won't get them over the line in round 13...unlucky for some. The Cowboys have named all five Origin players in their starting thirteen. I expect them to ice this game early, and rest some of their stars in the last 15 minutes when the result is no longer in doubt.
Verdict – Cowboys by 28
Result - Cowboys 46 defeated Knights 16
Melbourne Storm vs Penrith Panthers – Saturday night – AAMI Park
The Panthers have never beaten the Storm in Melbourne, but they've been given every chance this Saturday night. Bellamy has left Cronk and Smith out of the line-up entirely. A couple of big Kiwis step into the pivotal roles with Tohu Harris joining Green in the halves and Kenny Bromwich taking on the dummy-half duties. No rest for the Origin debutants in Moylan and Mansour. The Storm haven't lost since round six and their pack of forwards are as tough as ever, but if the Panthers pack can hold their own that spine of Wallace, Soward, Peachey and Moylan can get them over the line. History says no, but I could back the Panthers at $2.20 or thereabouts.
Verdict – Panthers by 2
Result - Storm 24 defeated Panthers 6
Sydney Roosters vs Wests Tigers – Sunday afternoon – Allianz Stadium
I'm going to tip my poor old chooks this weekend but I don't feel at all good about it. The Tigers actually played well to beat the Broncos and with Tedesco, Woods and Farah all returning I am somewhat stunned you can get more than $3.00 about them winning on Sunday. Roosters coach Trent Robinson extended his tenure at Bondi Junction this week and that's the crazy mad reason I've tipped them. Here's hoping his squad of flip-floppers and tickle-merchants can demonstrate a similar commitment to the cause and the jersey. I'll be watching, but I'll be holding my breath throughout.
Verdict – Roosters by 2
Result - Roosters 32 defeated Tigers 18
South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Gold Coast Titans – Sunday night – NIB Stadium
The Titans begin the first leg of an epic clockwise adventure around the continent. The Rabbitohs have been taking a game to Perth for years now, and it's usually worked out pretty well for them (mind you they used to make the Warriors travel there which is a little harsh). Inglis and Reynolds back up from Origin but the Bunnies will be without one Burgess brother as baby George recovers from groin surgery (no photos thanks George). Both sides are coming off the bye and chasing three wins in a row, and while the Titans have impressed me this season the Bunnies should be used to the routine of the Perth trip by now.
Verdict – Rabbitohs by 2
Result - Titans 29 defeated Rabbitohs 28
Canterbury Bulldogs vs Cronulla Sharks – Monday night – ANZ Stadium
The Sharks are perched at the top of the tree and have already beaten the teams in 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 7th this season. They haven't lost since round three and they've scored 20 or more points in every game since round five. The Bulldogs got run over by the Raiders last weekend, a team the Sharks beat comfortably (40-16) in Canberra a few weeks earlier. All Origin players return for both sides and even if this is close I'll be relying on the kicking boot of James Maloney to get the Sharks home. Surely he takes the conversion for NSW in game two. Surely.
Verdict – Sharks by 8
Result - Sharks 20 defeated Bulldogs 18
Wally Lewis - round thirteen selections (in bold)

- RAIDERS vs Sea Eagles
- Warriors vs BRONCOS

- Storm vs PANTHERS

Hello guys, my tips for this week are:
Raiders by 2- Raiders in a close one.
Warriors by 10- Warriors to upset the Broncos here. I think that the Broncos players backing up will be very tired which'll affect the Broncos here.
Cowboys by 16- Cowboys to get a big win over a much improved Knights team in recent games.
Storm by 4- Storm to win in a close game. But if Cronk and Smith don't play then I might change it.
Roosters by 8- Roosters to get back in the winners circle here. Although Tigers get Tedesco, Farah, and Woods back for this one bit still I think that the Roosters will win here at home. They will be desperate.
Rabbitohs by 12- Rabbitohs to get the win at Perth here.
And finally... Sharks by 14- Sharks will be too good here.
Awesome. That's done. Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Manly by 4 - Canberra are great in periods, Manly are due soon. Toss of the coin.
Broncos by 12 - Should do enough.
Cows by 2 - Not sure. Could easily be 60-0 but Knights almost shocked the Cows recently (like 2014 or 2015) and I reckon they could here.
Penrith by 1 - If Cronk and Smith don't play, Sowie will get Penrith home with his kicking game.
Tigers by 8 - Roosters could get back on track. Teddy back. Tigers have won against some weakened teams recently but can't discount them.
Titans by 4 - Tits are great competitors, they'll do it again.
Sharks by 2 - Sharks to sneak home.

Hi everyone,
Short comment on SOO number 1 …. The comments here leading up to the game were nearly as entertaining as the match itself. The “passion” displayed was great to see. Anyone reading the banter would have to be convinced of your love of the game. Well done to all those who involved themselves! Now the game itself – very dour affair indeed. A few contentious decisions for sure but you can only do what you’re allowed to do on the night. What a shame to think that in years to come, sides might have 2 separate game plans. One for the opposition and one to accommodate whatever mood the refs may or may not be in! Sheesh!
Regardless, I enjoyed the game and couldn’t fathom how the Blues let that one slip with all the possession they had. Also couldn’t believe Dylan Walker’s play the ball right at the end. Huge risk trying to milk a penalty but as we saw, it backfired horribly. Whatever miniscule chance the Blues had was thrown away big time. Dylan, what were you thinking man? Lastly, Big Sam’s comment post match was, by today’s politically incorrect standards, out of line but at the same time funny as hell. Yeah, call me a dinosaur but funny is funny, whatever way you interpret it.
OK, let’s move on and see if we can tip some winners this week…
Raiders - It’ll be cold Friday night and Manly aren’t all that flash at the moment although some may disagree.
Broncos - Can’t find any positives for the poor ol’ Warriors this week.
Cowboys - If the Cowboys don’t win by at least 16 then I’ll be very surprised.
Panthers - Seriously, I reckon these boys are a real good chance this week, even playing at AAMI.
Roosters - Tigers beating Broncos by a point with SOO guys out doesn’t quite convince me. My Beautiful Boys are nice and rested and should get the job done.
Rabbitohs - The Bunnies absolutely love playing over here. Some say it’s a second home for them. They’ll be getting the bickies you would think.
Bulldogs - Not sure why but I rate the Doggies as pretty good chances in this one. Pretty evenly matched as far as my “newbie” brain thinks. Yeah, Doggies for me.
One last thing. Have the Eels been penalised points or not? Get back from holidays and I read they had 12 points taken off and the other day I read somewhere it “might” only be 4 points and then tonight I’m checking out the ladder on the NRL website and they’re still sitting in 6th on 14. To make it even more confusing, the Boss has them last with zero points on the ladder here. Whaaaa?
OK kids, good luck with your tipping and may your team win by 40 points! Cheers.
P.S. If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done? Hmmm…

I'm off to the Warriors v Broncos game tomorrow (only because I have a free ticket!!). After a lot of rain in Auckland these past couple of weeks we are now getting some fine (but very cool) weather so it should be a good night for footy. I'll be backing the Broncos as I agree with the Thinker's comments this week....until I see some improvement in my team I just can't back them.
Good luck everyone with your tips this weekend!!!

The Tigers are into $2.25 to beat the Roosters. Hopefully the agile among you were quick enough to snap up $3.10 yesterday.

Hi Newbie
The Eels had until today 3/6 to finalise their response to the alleged salary cap breach.
That has now been extended until next Friday.
The Penalty is 12 points and a $mil in fines.
That's why they still have points on the table.
Come next Friday...who knows.
On this site the Thinker got in early unaware of the extension.

C'mon Coach put your tips in.
The rivalry on this site, be it our states or our clubs is what makes this site great.

Evening Thinkers and Tippers.
Been a long day for me.........but the night wont be any longer, even in The Cold Capital.
Mine for Round 13 are - Manly x 2, Warriors, Cowboys, Storm, Roosters, Rabbits and Sharks.
Have a nice weekend and lookout for rain heading towards the eastern coast. Cheers and keep well - Big Pete in Bx

Good on you GG Gal - great to hear. Raiders always favored down there on cold nights. Manly might just spring a surprise tonight and push all those media claims, aside for 80minutes. Go The Eagles by 2 or 4 pts.
The worst thing about picking teams after SoO, is who is lining up and then leaving the field for good.
Cheers - Big Pete in Bx

Hi Big Pete
Should be a cracker of a game. Freezing in Canberra probably similar to where you are.
Papalli to back up for the Raiders and Myles for the Eagles so it's even.
Couple of useful players back for the Eagles.
Where's your mate Fortress?
Coach has spat the dummy after origin.
Only 2 points, could have gone either way.
Be good to have them both back.
Yeah been raining here for two days and more to come.
Ah that's QLD sunny one day p--sing down the next.
Keep yourself safe.

Half time and I gotta laugh.
Refs haven't been calling forward passes all year and Perinara calls two in two minutes....go figga.
First one fair enough but the second one.
Submitted by Baggy_Gee on
Given that at any point in any given game you have those "flat" passes, which are 50/50 its almost time that they get called. Is there any reason that players who catch the ball by twisting behind themselves aren't called offside? That's the other problem with the so called "flat" pass.
Submitted by Baggy_Gee on
25 points in 13 minutes, looks like the Broncos are going 3 losses in a row. Who'd have thunk? Getting happy, then the truth hits me like a ton of bricks, damn Storm might get to be minor premiers. The cruel hand of fate.

Broncos smashed in NZ. Well done the Warriors, played well.
As Boyd said can't blame SOO for poor performance.
Glad I wasn't in the dressing room with Benny.
Pre-season warriors one of the favs for the title.
Played that way today. Is this their turn around?
JR that's gotta put a smile on your face!
Submitted by Baggy_Gee on
Put a smile on my face. Got the points in the upset. Lost my smile after flipping a coin for the Raiders/Manly game. Honestly........ how the hell were you suppose to work that? The Raiders have been up and down all season with nearly 0% predictability. Manly were starting to get some semblance of form. Oh well, life goes on.

Since Cronk and Smith are out I'm changing my tip from Storm to Panthers to win by 8- The players covering that positions aren't going to play as well as Cronk and Smith in halfback and hooker respectively. Cheers!

Just heard that Cronk and Smith are playing. So based on that, I'm changing my tip back to Storm and as the same margin.

Storm on top Smith & Cronk leading the way.

Good evening Mark Bro - how you been mate.
Yes showery here like most parts of the State at present. More coming across from Sth Aust way. Rain wont hurt as long as floods stay minimal.
Get the rivers and creeks flowing and flush them out, fill the dams and get water in for Spring crops etc. Trouble is the icy/windy weather comes after rain this time of the year. I tipped Warriors to win this round over there. You never know who gets to stay on the field with selections after Origin.
Manly I thought would have gone better than they did last night mate. Don't know what has happened to Fortress. They might have locked me mate up. Haven't heard from him since he left for The Bronks double-header in Brisbane. Coach may not be well. I don't know of his real origins or age. Maybe he has drifted off into the Potato Sack. He writes some good "factual" comments, but slings it all the same, until return serve.
Keep well Buddy and keep in touch.
Big Pete in Bx, NSW - West of The Sandstone Curtain.

Correct Mark - a good site and all sporting humans expressing their feelings. Some happen to think they write for The Daily Telegraph.
But what is sometimes written, wouldn't make the print in newspapers.
A little bit of Cassius Clay and Joe Frazier - below the belt stuff.
Coach may not be well Mark - or his computer's had a seizure.
Submitted by BigPeteBx on
Good one Draggo - you guys earn easy points this week. My lot are the walking wounded.
I think Eels need the break.
Me thinks, lesson learnt with Foran and DCE - too many expectations with a high price tag over their heads, to perform. Both continually knackered.
Submitted by BigPeteBx on
She's cool Baggy - and also in Canberra mate.
Remember Round 13 - NRL 2016 Comp is at The Half Way point.
Anything can happen from here in!
Submitted by BigPeteBx on
Best you tread very softly "Young Rocket" - handling errors cost it for NSW.
But more so, tread warily, because Coach will awaken from his Potato Sack and fire one hell of a rocket up your Kiber Pass.
Submitted by BigPeteBx on
Warriors usually do Mark, over there around origin time. They have copious amounts of The Mud Water and it gets them firing.
Submitted by BigPeteBx on
Hey Tiger - Warriors it was mate and I tipped them over there.
Bronks find a sort of imbalance on The Shaky Isles after Origin players are back on duty. Bit like Shakin Stevens and Shakin All Over.
Credit to Warriors, but I don't know who survived it at Bronks, to walk off at full-time.
You know, it might pay to take a SoO to NZ, as a one off every three years.
Make a package deal and a Thursday or Friday night game of it.
Yes, I know NSW and QLD clubs mightn't like it, but the game needs to be exposed more.
Perth people will love the Souths v Titans game over there.
Remember The Western Reds of a few years ago, well Perth lacks that bigger stage footy stuff. Trouble was, it was a costly venture on the road every two weeks, from one side of The Nation, to the other.
