* note: team line-ups are subject to considerable change, but will be updated as news filters through.

The series is on the line here. Queensland can seal the series at home or New South Wales can keep the series alive and take us to a decider. Suncorp Stadium has been the venue of many an Origin game where the series was on the line - that in itself isn't unusual. But what is unusual is New South Wales winning such a game. The last time they did so was way back in game three of the 2005 series where they absolutely walloped Queensland 32-10 (at one stage they led 32-0). That New South Wales team were quite a team - Minichiello, Gasnier, Cooper, Tahu, Johns, Buderus, Hindmarsh, Fitzgibbon, Kennedy etc. When you look back at that New South Wales team and you look back at the Queensland team they beat it's not a complete surprise. But that was way back in 2005, and since then Queensland have won every single game at Suncorp where the series was there to be won or lost. Almost every time, Queensland have won easily. Can this NSW team repeat the heroics of that 2005 team? I say it's unlikely. Every 2005 player I've named earlier would be a walk-up start for NSW if they were playing today. Not only will they need to match the heroics of that 2005 side, they need to do so against a far stronger opponent. I say it's highly unlikely. In the last four outings at Suncorp, Queensland have scored 19 tries while NSW have scored five, with a combined aggregate over that period of 118 points for QLD and just 32 points for NSW. That's a gap job - it's a chasm. And while I agree that the gap is shrinking and these Queensland greats aren't as young as they once were, they are clearly the best team on the park. Often game two of the series is a more open affair (the exception that proves the rule is when game two is played at ANZ Stadium). While I'm not expecting razzle-dazzle and end-to-end football (particularly after the drenching the surface has received today), Queensland should get enough opportunities to cross the stripe. And let's be perfectly frank, if they can score two tries or more it's probably enough to win. I'll back them to do just that.

Verdict – QLD 22 : NSW 10

First try scorer - Dane Gagai

Man of the Match - Darius Boyd

Truth be known, NSW has won every single Origin series since it's inception.

???!?!!??? Wtf shit on you on this time, Potato?

No it's true. Prior to 1859, all of Queensland was a part of NSW.
So each year Old New South Wales plays New New South Wales.
Old New South Wales have certainly dominated much like New New South Wales dominated prior to that - 9 series to 3 and two draws 1992 to 2005. Old New South Wales don't seem to remember too good any further back than 10 years. Funny about that.

Anyway good luck to both teams, and whether it be Old New South Wales, or New New South Wales, whether we'll be talking about Old New South Wales dominance of the last decade, or New New South Wales turn to dominate again, one things for sure, New South Wales is headed for another series victory.

Go New South Wales!

QLD are better but

Great speech Gus.
No matter the fact that your pre-game talk spurred on a great NSW victory, information that was suppressed from the readers.

No matter. Another win tonight in enemy territory. How sweet it'll be.

Baggy_Gee's picture

Didn't know it was in the rules that you could bobble the ball forward to yourself. Thought the nrl made that illegal years ago.

Baggy_Gee's picture

And how was that not a knock on from Scott? I'd be walking off the field. It's like the old story about the ref with his cash on the other team in the grand final. Bull shit

Baggy_Gee's picture

If that is no try there needs to be a riot. Pushed back by Nielsen, grounded by frizell

Baggy_Gee's picture

FFS, yes there might have been an obstruction, but you still defend as if there wasn't. Weak as piss.

Well done Queensland. Well done NSW.
Lost by 10 but inches away from winning.
Hard to believe.

Well done Farah.
You did great.
Just as I asked.
Only thing you forgot was to twist your ankle at training and let Cartwright on. He think he would have run rings around their mob.

What a great game. Calls didn't all go our way but was far less blatant than game one. Three penalties end on end early in the game was a joke but we knew what we were up against.

No complaints. I know our turn will come. Bryce Cartwright - what number do you want?

Fantastic game tonight. Very little in it in the end.

Just great football. Really happy with that.

Too good Queensland, no argument from me.

Cheers

QLD are the best

Hey guys I've finalled showed them the door. Must admit I'm a little bit Brahams & List.
But it was a good game could have gone either way.
The Qld juggernaught was unbeatable.
Being nasty I'm glad to see Gallen out as a loser and Parker as a winner.
Coach I was disappointed by Moylen he played better in SOO 1
QLD will dominate this comp for as long as they want to.
NSW don't have a clue.
It's all about when you used to beat us using QLD players in your interstate teams.
We'll never forget that and have a look who are the best players in your NSW teams. QLDers are everywhere.

Another series wrapped up. Gee Coach your Penrith Panthers in SOO didn't do much despite your asking for more to be included.

Christine, sorry I haven't responded earlier been a bit busy having a drink. thanks for your support. Good win to QLD...well backed!!

Where are you bigpete you didn't swallow one of those tooeys blues or whatever you were sipping on keep working on those handling errors especially my man of the match Jennings

I can't believe that I forgot to tip for this game. Although I think everyone here would of known that I would've tipped NSW right? Qld did have the better-looking side last night and well deserved the win. Credit to them. They are a great side filled with champions. On the other hand, the Blues played well. Jennings did bomb a couple of tries which was very unlucky. Win, Lose or Draw I'll always bleed the mighty Blues

Dragonsfan4ever's picture

In the end, Queensland ere just too good unfortunately.

Evening Rocket or is it Ronald.
I got your SOS - mate only had one beer last night.
QLD were too good, when it counted. Deservedly, they have won another series. NSW too many errors, when it mattered most. At 72nd minute mate, any Qld'er would have been trembling in their boots and then Jennings/Frizele handed it over to you.

Rocket/Mark A/Tiger - I liked those XXXX king size eskies they had in the QLD dressing sheds. Even if they had ginger beer in them.

Back to Sydney for The 3rd - NSW should start blooding a new crop now. But remember - QLD has an ageing population in NRL quarters and the boot will then be on the other foot.
