Cronulla Sharks vs Penrith Panthers – Thursday night – PointsBet Stadium
In round five the Panthers missed 67 tackles against a team that hadn't won a game prior. When they have won they haven't won by much, and the teams they've beaten aren't shooting the lights out this season. The Sharks were soundly beaten by the Chooks last round, but it's looking like the Chooks will be doing that to quite a few teams this year. The Sharks have lost more games than they've won but they are racking up more line breaks and offloads than most of the competition. Given all the missed tackles by the Panthers last weekend, I expect they will struggle to contain the Sharks attack. Doubts about Gallen and Fifita playing on Thursday, but I'm tipping them at home regardless.
Verdict – Sharks by 4
Result – Sharks 24 defeated Panthers 20
Canterbury Bulldogs vs South Sydney Rabbitohs – Friday afternoon – ANZ Stadium
The traditional Good Friday clash is in danger of being over-shadowed by the other Good Friday clash, but it's always nice to have something to watch on a day when the options are thin on the ground. The Rabbitohs, and all of us really, begin the post-Inglis era – I expect they'll transition just fine given his involvement this season has been pretty limited. The Bulldogs gave their fans a glimmer of hope against the Storm but they came crashing back to earth against the Dragons. I suspect they overachieved two weeks ago and underachieved last week, which means their natural level lies somewhere in between. I fear that last weekend was closer to reality. It's still Easter...and it's still the Bunnies.
Verdict – Rabbitohs by 16
Result – Rabbitohs 14 defeated Bulldogs 6
Melbourne Storm vs Sydney Roosters – Friday night – AAMI Park
Our 2018 grand finalists face off in the game of the round, and the Clive Churchill medallist gets a chance to shore up a NSW Origin jersey if he hasn't locked it in already (I'll get in before everyone else piles on – Keary was born and raised in Ipswich...Kevin Walters and Allan Langer will give him heaps). He's up against the QLD number six here. Munster and Keary have been close to the best in the NRL this season so this game is worthy of your eyeballs just to watch those two. The most important inclusion (or exclusion) is Victor Radley, who has to pass a concussion test to take his spot. He's been a revelation in the number nine jersey for the tricolours, and Jake Friend isn't ready to return either. The Storm have scrambled to victory in their last two outings and remain undefeated, but scrambling wins over the Bulldogs and Cowboys doesn't look like flash form. A big vocal crowd will get behind the purple machine, but the Roosters have scored 30+ points at their last three outings and look the goods.
Verdict – Roosters by 4
Result – Roosters 21 defeated Storm 20
New Zealand Warriors vs North Queensland Cowboys – Saturday night – Mt Smart Stadium
The Warriors are undefeated at Mt Smart this season, although the teams they've beaten are 14th and 16th on the ladder. Mind you, the Cowboys are 15th so it's probably good enough. The Cowboys were much better against the Storm but now they have to repeat the effort. Their depth in the backline is being seriously tested (Feldt and Macdonald injured, Coote released, Barba cut, Holmes overseas, Ponga at the Knights and Folau unapproachable). The Cowboys pack, even without Taumalolo, could do a number on the Warriors, but can this Cowboys backline convert that into points? Thinker says no.
Verdict – Warriors by 8
Result – Cowboys 17 defeated Warriors 10
St George Illawarra Dragons vs Manly Sea Eagles – Saturday night – WIN Stadium
After the first two rounds of the season things were looking pretty dire for the Dragons and the Sea Eagles, but neither side has lost a game since. After two narrow victories the Dragons fired up the after-burners against the Bulldogs. Meanwhile, the Sea Eagles have coped without Tommy Turbo quite well indeed with Brendan Elliott improving in the number one jersey with every outing. Home ground advantage is reason enough for me to tip the Dragons. The likely inclusion of Vaughan for the Red V and the suspension of Fonua-Blake for the Sea Eagles bolsters my confidence. If not for the grand final replay on Good Friday it's the game of the round.
Verdict – Dragons by 7
Result – Dragons 12 defeated Sea Eagles 10
Gold Coast Titans vs Newcastle Knights – Sunday afternoon – Cbus Super Stadium
The Titans got off the mark in round five but they'll be heading into this game without Ash Taylor, AJ Brimson and Jarrod Wallace. Shannon Boyd is doubtful but could be a late inclusion. Less problems for the Knights but Aiden Guerra won't be back for quite some time after an injury I'd rather not watch again. I'll tip the Knights on the road, but I hope they've been behaving themselves on the Goldie for the Easter weekend. Watching Ponga weave his magic on a Sunday afternoon is worth the cost of admission alone.
Verdict – Knights by 2
Result – Titans 38 defeated Knights 14
Canberra Raiders vs Brisbane Broncos – Sunday afternoon – GIO Stadium
Five weeks down and I've tipped the Broncos five times. Clearly it hasn't been a winning strategy and I'm not sure if the Broncos have a winning strategy either. I'm no Wally Lewis but to my eye they appear to lack a leader who can manage a game. They just look rudderless and particularly so when the game is on the line. I can't see an easy solution either, but this is one club you don't underestimate. The Raiders are ticking all the boxes at the minute and they ticked another rare box last weekend with a shut-out of the Parramatta Eels. While a turnaround performance from the Broncos wouldn't surprise me (and they do have a good record in Canberra) I cannot tip them on exposed form. I've gone green.
Verdict – Raiders by 4
Result – Raiders 26 defeated Broncos 22
Parramatta Eels vs Wests Tigers – Monday afternoon – Bankwest Stadium
The Eels were on the wrong side of a shut-out last weekend so they'll be keen to make amends as they make their debut at their swanky new stadium. The Tigers surprised most with their 80th minute victory over the Broncos in Brisbane, and they've had 11 whole sleeps to prepare for this game. The availability of Blake Ferguson is a big plus for the Eels – he might have a face like a dropped pie but he's a powerful force with speed to burn. Despite his inclusion I'm tipping the Tigers in something of an upset. Their spine impressed me last start and their second row pair of Matterson and Garner are chronically under-rated. Whatever the outcome it will be a delight to see a packed-out stadium in rugby league heartland for an afternoon of footy.
Verdict – Tigers by 4
Result – Eels 51 defeated Tigers 6
Wally Lewis - round six selections (in bold)

- SHARKS vs Panthers
- Bulldogs vs RABBITOHS
- Storm vs ROOSTERS

It's a beautiful fine sunny day here in Auckland so should be a nice evening for our guests the Cowboys. It's warm but not Townsville warm. We might reach 20 degrees....
Submitted by Mary S on
Hi Steel Panther,
20 degrees is currently our minimum!!
Submitted by Steel Panther on
You're making me jealous Mary!! One thing Auckland isn't famous for is its weather. It seems like we've just gone from summer to winter here this year. No Autuum? The funny thing is not long after I posted some grey clouds appeared. It is forecast for rain tomorrow just hope it doesn't come early and we have a dry track tonight. Take care

Well the GF rematch lived up to all the hype. Roosters won the first half convincingly but Storm showed their grit to claw their way back.
I know I don't like him but Latrelle Mitchell is one hell of a player.
If there's anyway the Broncos can get him, well then I'll start liking him!

Hey Steel
Bit chilly in Auckland is it mate. Balmy weather here with lots of showers to make our gardens grow. You want to think about moving here, there's a delightful house on the Sunny Coast just waiting for you.
Then you can become a Broncs/Maroons supporter and be happy for the rest of your days.
Good luck to your Warriors tonight.

Hey Mark.....it wasn't very warm at Mt Smart tonight either. The temp was cold, the beer was cold but the Warriors were colder after another limp effort. I mentioned it last week that if an out of form team want to play themselves back in to form then they take on the Warriors.
Well done to the Cowboys who deserved the two points!!

I know how you feel a, I knew the cowboys would be in fine form tonight based on last week's performance but as a rule they don't win at Mt Smart. I went with the smart money for the tip but my gut said our boys were not going to make it easy for the Warriors 😊 Well done Cowboys!!

Yeah hopefully they continue their good form

Steel
A loss to the Cowboys, two teams a bit out of form is hard to take especially at home.
I've just watched my Broncs go down by a few points in the second half. Don't get me wrong Canberra were by far the better team and deserved their win. I think the Broncs are now on the bottom of the ladder, can't remember when this last happened.
We both have 19 rounds to get out of this slump.

Hi all,
I just got back from GIO stadium to see Canberra beat Brisbane. Top game and I’m happy Canberra won. Brisbane do have some strike power and it won’t be long before they get it together. I think they would have had it together a lot earlier if they didn’t ditch Wayne Bennet and I still reckon it was a stupid mistake to do that. I understand that the Brisbane hierarchy wanted a change but if they let Wayne finish his last year there, he would’ve blooded and handed a premiership winning side to Seibold the following year. There is no one better in the game than extracting the best from players and blooding the young guns like Bennet.
Seriously what is going on with the ten metre rule? From my position in the inner bowl it's around 8 metres, crazy. I totally agree with Wayne Bennet, let the referees referee what they see in front of them. For the sake of penalties we are now seeing a slugfest with the majority of tries being scored out wide. The other draw-back to allowing the teams like the Broncos slowing up the ruck and creep inside the ten is the increased injuries. Fairdinkum, if you have a rule then police it for goodness sake. If this is what it’s like in a normal round of football, imagine what the State of Origin will be like, boring?
That’s it from me tonight folks, ‘She who must be obeyed’ is calling me.
Cheers from the original Johnny Awesome

@ Butcher (or should we just call you “Butch”?)
Sorry mate, I’d forgotten you were a Rooster. It doesn't feel like I'm all alone now. Well, the Boss is a Rooster fan from memory and so too is Pabdul but he’s gone MIA. Yeah, both having a PD of 59 theoretically means we share top spot but I suppose they have to list one or the other first. Not really fussed but was unsure if there was a “protocol” the NRL employs to separate 1st and 2nd listing so just thought I’d ask the question. After today’s win by the Raiders (Broncos a little unlucky IMO) there’s now 4 sitting on equal points with the Raiders very close with a PD of 57 and Rabbitohs on 45. Love this game…
@ Mr Ashford
Watched your boys today and while they weren’t winners, the signs are there (read below). Oh and BTW mate, I’m sorry but Latrelle ain’t going nowhere (ha-ha)…
@ NuL1F3, “a”, Mary, Tailspin (well done on tipping them too) and all the other Cowboys fans out there
Well done on getting up yesterday. Patience and belief. For anyone out there who needs a little advice, just remember this… “The longer you keep losing, the closer you are to winning and the longer you keep winning, the closer you are to losing.”
I was getting all geared up to watch the Eels and Tigers tomorrow but 9 isn’t telecasting the game (Fox only). Oh well, think I’ll head on down to Harvey Norman instead and get myself a new stereo, universal remote and a stick vac as I desperately need all 3. OK peeps, have a good one…

Start talking to your mynah's I just learnt they are very smart they do mimic they will remember if you are bad to them they won't like you if you do anything wrong to them & they talk from 3-4 months old up to 2 years of age after that too late to teach new words too them they also know over 100 words if you teach them they like 24 c (degrease) in temp but they can do temps lower than that but they must be cold in winter in Bathurst I know what that is like up that part I even feel sorry for all the lambs in winter in Bathurst & orange as well as lithgow etc ...

I'm really looking forward to the game today – and the weather in Sydney looks perfect too.
When I was at the Broncos v Tigers game last week I was chatting to a bloke who was wearing an Eels shirt. He lives 500km west of Brisbane and drives in with his wife (who is a Broncos fan) for every single home game. After the game they get back in the car and drive home. That's a lot of driving for an Eels fan.
Anyhoo....he's driven down to Sydney to see today's game at the brand new stadium.
He must really love his league....and his car.....and his wife.

That is an awesome story Thinker, I think its great that they both love the game and each other enough to do that. Saddened that I won't be at the new stadium today but usual culprits are in the way. I'm hoping that it's a good clean game, no refs unless needed, no negative play, just good flowing football, and an Eels win.
Who here is going to be at magic round on the Saturday?

Good Sunday afternoon to you Manyana.
The mynah chick (feathered) is a little treasure. Well worth the look. I even had a peek at the noisy ring-necks that followed. There are some nice vids there, but I had to get moving on other matters.
Q) is it you and our 'a' that also have a tip around Roar site.
I often go there for A-League & EPL stories.
Funny how you can log in there, but where do you logout at, or is it, that once you leave the site, it automatically closes/logs you out.
No probs if it isn't you - I was just observant and curious.
Cheers - Big Pete

Good luck this arvo at WSS.
A good selection of match to christen the new turf there.
Hope you don't get robbed, like we did, in a refs blunder.
There are many out there that couldn't give a hoot about Manly, but some here are thoughtful and converse about results.
Have a good afternoon and enjoy the remainder of your Easter.

Hope you've had a good Easter. The Warriors loss to the Cowboys came as no surprise. Lose when you're expected to win is a Warriors specialty. They only have one attacking weapon and that's RTS but he can't do it all on his own. I watched your Broncos lose to the Raiders and have to say they looked flat. Seibold has some work to do but I think the Broncos will come right but I don't share the same opinion about the Warriors. I can see Melbourne putting 50 on them on ANZAC day.

Newbie....not sure if you remember but when I first started watching the great game back in the 80s I followed the Roosters. I was a big Gary Freeman fan and was stoked when he signed for the Roosters after his stint with Balmain. Obviously it was good to get a team from Auckland into the NRL but that team has been nothing but a major disappointment.

Hi Big Pete, yes, I do tip on the roar site when I remember. I'm not doing very well in that comp either. lol. I had a quick look at the site you or Christine recommended. It looks very interesting. I seem to have had a relapse with my chronic fatigue, and I'm not on the computer very much. I just check my emails on my phone or tablet. Bye for now. manyana. PS just watched the eels do a number on the tigers. It was a great game even though I didn't tip them.

Hello Manyana and thanks for responding.
Sorry to hear about your relapse, I can understand as a former workmate of mine suffered with it and used to see a Sydney specialist, every month or so.
As I don't have your home email address, I can only speak with you via here. Someday if u r in at the butchers, you can relay it via Wendy. Briefly explain why.
I used to have budgies, when I was a teen, along with canaries and finches. My mates had the parrots, as there was more money in them. I saw the pet shop up the road from my place selling budgies for $15.00 each. About $1.00 in my days.
I bred a red eye lutino once and then fluked a red eye albino. I still have the books and all that, then along came a cinnamon wing.
Aaahhh, the memories.
Take care and try and keep well - Big Pete

I think there are still unresolved issues at Penrith , no matter how much they try too play it down they can't it shows in their performance so far this season but if they had to play knights ,broncos or dogs I would tip Penrith or even tip the draw ...
