Game preview
Often I fear for the prospects (and safety) of the Queensland forwards in Origin contests - the NSW boppers often make the QLD big men look less big, but not anymore. Payne Haas is a big unit, but big Tino will put him back in his box at the first opportunity. As for the rest of them, Cameron Murray, Damien Cook, Jake Trbojevic, Liam Martin and Tariq Sims are the sort of guys you want your youngest daughter going out on dates with (perhaps not all at the same time). They're all just a bunch of softies. The only forward I worry about is Isaah Yeo. He's a softie too, but his combinations with Cleary and Luai could win this game for NSW. That could prove the difference - if NSW do win one of the halves will probably get Man of the Match honours, but Yeo is the cog in the wheel that makes everything work. I can't tip NSW on the basis of that alone, however. Queensland have an impeccable record on home turf, and you don't get more home than Townsville. That venue and that crowd is worth about 8 points to the home side, and in game one of an Origin series (where scores are often low and close), 8 points should be enough.
Verdict – QLD 18 to defeat NSW 10
First try scorer – Harry Grant
Player of the match – Valentine Holmes

Go the "Mighty Blues", lets head to Sydney 1-0. Should be a great game with 34 of the best players in the game.
Have a great week folks

As a Brit in NZ who loves NRL, I don't support either team, but look forward to it - and surely NSW win by 10+? They just have better players, who are in form.

I'm going old school... Fisticuffs within the first 10-minutes. Cockroaches to beat the Cane Toads 16-8. Brian To'o to score the first try. Anyone's game... So, let's have some fun!

By Newbie’s clock there’s roughly 22 hours and 45 minutes to go before SO1 kicks off. Being a West Aussie, I’m not as parochial as you guys but FWIW I’m a Maroons supporter. I sometimes go crazy and support the “underdog” and when I started following the “real” footy, the Blues had the wood over the Maroons. All my mates were with the Blues so I decided to be the rebel and I jumped on the Maroons.
Then the “glory days” arrived and life was good 💪. Now it’s settled back into a slight Blues tilt but that’s OK, just as long as it has that typical SOO atmosphere and the footy rises to another level. To be honest, I’ll just be happy if it’s a cracker and a smidge happier if the Qld boys get up 😉.
The WA TAB has NSW @ $1.50 and QLD @ $2.55. Turbo and Teddy both @ $12.00 first try scorer. I’m pondering having a flutter or three. Gamble responsibly I remember someone telling me 🤪. Bring it on…

Lets go the Blues!
Thinker i can't believe you called Tariq soft haha.
On paper the blues look like the better team as usual but we all know what an underdog Maroon outfit can pull off.
However this is just game 1 and I think the blues will get them easy here with Cleary and Luai in the halves. NSW 28 QLD 6

Thats ok Thinker, we can go to Sydney 2-0

Well as much as I hoped for a Maroons win I must say the Blues outplayed us in every aspect of the game. Well done you deserved the win.

For all his talent, it's impossible to like Cameron Munster .
In my opinion he's a bad sport and that's me being polite. He's far too ready too get into altercations even when they don't involve him and and the way he reacted to Liam Martin's perfectly legal contact immediately following his kick was a dog act .
What's really sad is that I'm not even surprised ... this is the sort of poor sportsmanship that's becoming far too common from a player that could and should let his talent do the talking.

Hey Dragons Fanboy,
I wish I saw your predictions before I put my same game multi bets on !
I hope you backed yourself.

Out of all the disappointment at Maroons performance last night I had to have a chuckle when I read the following Tweet from the Queensland Police -
“QPS is investigating the disappearance of the Maroons winning edge, missing since 8.10pm in Townsville,” the social media post read.
“Concerns are held for the Maroons, as this behaviour is out of character.
“Investigations indicate it was last seen in company with Kurt Capewell.
“Please return it to QRL.”
