Round twelve selections

South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Parramatta Eels – Friday night – ANZ Stadium

Robbie Farah has a point to prove this weekend, but so does Mitchell Moses. His transition to the Eels wasn't smooth but it wasn't a train wreck either. He'll be better for the run I have no doubt. What I do doubt is the Rabbitohs in attack, as the Bunnies have been kept under ten points in five of their last eight outings. If you can't score ten points you can't win football games...usually. The Sharks are the only team to have kept the Eels under ten points this season, and the Sharks defence is a tougher nut than the Bunnies. What's more the Bunnies have had less days to prepare for this game, coupled with a trip back from Perth. The Rabbits may be favourites with the Bookies but not with me.

Verdict – Eels by 4

Result – Eels by 6

New Zealand Warriors vs Brisbane Broncos – Saturday night – Mt Smart Stadium

It's that time of year when the Warriors get on a bit of a run, people start talking up their premiership prospects...and it all comes to nothing. They're going so poorly this season they may not even make a run at all. I'm reluctantly tipping them here, because they have one of the best spines in the NRL and not one of them is in any danger of being asked to play Origin football. Compare that to the Broncos – their 1,6,7 and 9 are all perfectly capable footballers, but not one of them played in those positions for the Broncos last week. Not only that, the Broncos are without three of their starting forward pack. I'm not suggesting for a minute that the Warriors are rolled gold certainties here. A loss wouldn't surprise me one bit, but I'm tipping them to do enough, just enough, to get the two points.

Verdict – Warriors by 4

Result – Warriors by 18

Cronulla Sharks vs Canterbury Bulldogs – Saturday night – Southern Cross Group Stadium

Two of the biggest meanest packs of forwards face off on Saturday night. The Sharks lose their best (Graham) and their meanest (Fifita) to Origin but what's left of their pack is still first class. The Sharks bench for this game – Bukuya (6 ft 2), Tagataese (6 ft 4), Latimore (6 ft 4) and Paulo (6 ft 2) – is still first class too. With Graham, Maloney and Bird on Origin duty the Sharks have lost some flair in attack, but I'm not convinced the Bulldogs have any flair to lose. Sharks for mine in a low-scoring grind...particularly at home on a Saturday night.

Verdict – Sharks by 4

Result – Sharks by 1

Canberra Raiders vs Sydney Roosters – Sunday afternoon – GIO Stadium

The Raiders lose Papalii to Origin and he was best on ground for them in round eleven, but beyond that the Raiders have named their best seventeen, Meanwhile the Chooks lose three of their best forwards (Cordnor, Napa and Guerra), their most important playmaker (Pearce) and their most dangerous back (Ferguson). Note too, that Kenny-Dowall is still serving a suspension. The Roosters are left with a competitive seventeen, but given the strength of the opposition and the venue the Raiders should have these chooks spinning in a rotisserie by the 60th minute mark.

Verdict – Raiders by 14

Result – Raiders by 8

Wally Lewis - round twelve selections (in bold)

Note: tips from Wally will be published on Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.

  • RABBITOHS vs Eels
  • WARRIORS vs Broncos
  • SHARKS vs Bulldogs
  • RAIDERS vs Roosters

Hi all,
Well said Mr 'a' and Christine.
Now tell me all, what's going on with Souths, fairdinkum they are about as useless as a glass hammer. That's it for me, I'm sick of picking them. When it comes to footy tipping this, I must admit, my attics a bit dusty at the moment.
Cheers from Mr Awesome

Baggy_Gee's picture

The problem for the bunnies, was that the game finished in the 80th minute. Like a lot of teams they would have been still full of running and points if it was a 90 minute game. They were just ambushed by the better side on the night.

Johnny Awesome's picture

Hello all,
Mr Baggy Gee, let's face most teams find it hard to keep the intensity up when getting a good lead, mentally they get into safe mode. Sure, Rabbits turned it up but Parra did drop off. Without being disrespectful, Parra isn't exactly top grade yet, still a gap between them and teams like Melbourne so Rabbits are in for a long season. On another note, Parra is looking better and better every week, when they play for a full 80, they'll be a handful. Cheers from Mr Awesome

fortress's picture

there a wide gulf between the top teams, and the bottom teams, can ayone on here please come on and tell me, was that a great advertisment for the nrl, what was dished out last night.quarter empty stadium, sub par teams, i mean if the rest of the world saw that farce they would be thinking that was the best of the nrl, come on people im only stateing fact ok.

i love my footy its not about who was playing, if u watched the game just say it as it is,we saw that game last night 2 traditional sydney clubs who in the past would of drawn 30,000 to the game.

whats the matter played decent footy the other mob were woeful, thats why the two teir system needs to bought in we need quality as well.

and the commentary expect for rabbitts was drab and boring, i mean fitler must be on the bush bud, fair dinkum, and erin molan on channel nine cant put two words together, bring in people who have a modern appeal can express themselves yes, but with proper insight of the game not just mates getting jobs in the media off other mates who are already there.

its time to get with the strength, thats my opinion and as always your all welcome to yours but hopefully with some fact.

enjoy your saturday good people cheers from the fearless fortress!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Breaking News Gallen wants to resign for another year cant that prick retire

BigPeteBx's picture

Certainly Christine, with knowing how many of our members are in health. Everyday, someone has the pain and suffering of health or life's issues. As Johnny Awesome also said, we are a friendly site, say what you want and doesn't need to be r/league or football.

Togetherness can be catching and I've done that since I joined here. One person didn't seem to want to accommodate my writings and feelings, early in the peace (if it was peace) and those comments were displayed and well read. Common knowledge, but slightly history now.

There is another site I follow, but haven't posted for over 18 months, as I'm more at home here - even if pressed for time. But they have certain banners/links or topics to discuss at, if it is separate to NRL.

So you Christine and "a" and others that may suffer - take care and keep well.
We think of you all!!!

Cheers - Big Pete

BigPeteBx's picture

What does Gallen want to resign from "a"?

I thought, once you resign you resign, but retire is another thing, as we've seen quite often, players coming out of retirement for some reason or whatever.

Cheers and take it steady - Big Pete.

Rocket Ryan's picture

You cockroaches are quiet and who could blame you tigerholic you are the biggest loser this year at least baggy gets a win both of you need to head for cover now Wednesday is coming fast more bitter disappointment

BigPeteBx's picture

Johnny A - Souths are well and truly buried.
Something going on at that club and bugger me thinking twice about picking them, because they cant even pick their own nose.
Compare names and experience and you would pick Souths.
Nothing against Eels, last night as they played a better running game and ended up victors.

BigPeteBx's picture

Good to see you Pabdul.
How was the first week at P/ham (not soup)?
Hows Paula?
Mark A means his feelings about offending and hoped it never got to you.
I just felt you were laying low on the perch and not top cock at top rung in the coop.

Cheers Rooster - speak later this evening
Big Pete

Baggy_Gee's picture

It's OK Ryan, we'll get the win when we come north. I know I picked the Warriors but you can write of the ponies. Might be a lot closer than it seems. But trying to remember the first few rounds this year, as my memory recalls we got the win against the beach boys quite convincingly.

christine's picture

I didn't believe for one minute that souths were favourites to win that game , mc guire actually trains his players really hard & expects a lot from them which is obviously going against them & then you have these bookies that just keep raking it in by giving bogus odds such as last nights game that's why I used to tell "a" tip with your head not your heart , throw loyalty out the window & home ground advantage plays a big part & even if the odds say one team over another to win but your gut instinct says other wise listen to it your gut instinct or esp is usually right well my is anyway ...

Spartan Warrior's picture

Greetings from the Spartan Warrior,
The Spartan Warrior only speaks when something needs to be said.
Master Mark Ashby has solved my poem and ye, I hail from a small suburb that overlooks a glorious harbour. Lady Christine, I have been the Spartan Warrior for many more years than you can imagine. Think back to all the sunsets that you have seen, think back to those of your youth, and remember the sounds of the leaves as the wind passed through them. Could you count the leaves on tree then, can you count them when spring will once again reappear? As autumn comes and goes, as winter breathes its icy wind, the leaves will die and fall but the Spartan Warrior will remain.
During my life, the world has always been against me, but I would still not have that changed that in any way. Remember, that no one or anything can dim the light that radiates from within. “Watch me, I will go to my own Sun. And if I am burned by its fire, I will fly on scorched wings – Segovia Amil.
The Spartan Warriors words are for those that care, for those whose hearts are honest. But for those who wish to denigrate myself and others, silence will ensue. But never mistake my silence for weakness, the strength of my quietness will power over any bad words that could be spoken in ignorance.
I write this, so that you may all know that any persons using my name or there-off in part are mere imitations, I am the original Spartan Warrior and the Spartan Warrior will always speak the truth.
As to my domain and allegiance in rugby league, this is what I offer to ye all. Rugby League is my allegiance.
What is the Spartan Warriors code? There is a code that comes from within all us. It is up to each individual to choose which one they will follow.
This is the Spartan Warrior’s code, it is how I dwell in this life:
Spartan = Strength, Power, Acceptance, Respectfulness, Tolerance, Affection, Never-failing.
Warrior = Wholeheartedness, Achievement, Resilience, Reputable, Inspiring, Open-hearted, Righteous
This is my life, imperfect as it is.
The Spartan Warrior has spoken
'ut maneat vobiscum pacem' [to you all]

a's picture

Spartan Warrior have you been Spartan Warrior your whole life

Spartan Warrior's picture

Greetings from the Spartan Warrior,
This is my last correspondence until the next round. Hear ye all, it is only for Master a that I reply. Master a, rest assured, you are a Warrior. Your heart is kind. The greatest Warrior must know compassion, kindness and humility. I am just a Spartan Warrior and yes I am flawed. But this is my life.
Your heart is kind, Master a, you have so much to offer and I am honoured to be on this site with your presence and also amongst the others.
The Spartan Warrior has spoken.
'curam benigne' [take care with kindness]

Baggy_Gee's picture

I do hate not being willing to pay to view the NRL when it's Saturday, how did broncos go? They put up a better showing than the score board suggest?

mark ashford's picture

Johnny Awesome
Your daughters greatest asset is you, a loving dad, a lot of us get served a slice of s--t in life but if you have a loving parent/partner you get through.
I was never bullied at school but saw kids that were.
Mainly overweight kids. I went to a predominately "white Aussie" school in Brisbane and we had a Polish kid Milan Popadich join us.
For some reason I befriended him and we became good mates.
Lost some Aussie mates because of this......how sad.
Mate look after your daughter, little girls are precious.
I know, my little girl is now 24 and a complete delight.

BigPeteBx's picture

The worst part Christine about odds and tipping/betting is, that if a team has a couple of guns picked to play and we place our tips, then a torn heart muscle occurs and they pull out, the whole process is on its backside.
It really gets up my nose, especially as I free tip with 8 sites and fairing ok. EPL just finished and I did my sums and came 2nd in NSW in FOX Sports EPL Tipping and 7th overall.....only bragging rights, but fun and in all - a challenge.

mark ashford's picture

Spartan Warrior
I am honoured by your words. I will try to be the Warrior you have awarded me.
BUT the Maroons will still overcome the Blues next Wednesday.
Perhaps you could get King Leonides to resurrect a couple of the 500 Spartans to assist the Blues next week.

BigPeteBx's picture

Baggy Gee - Warriors def Broncs 28-10 and at half time it is Dogs 6-4 over Sharks. That might have changed since I've been on Thinker site.
I don't have FOXTEL or other cable tv - just free to air and support it well, especially for country people.

Cheers and Eels held out last night.

mark ashford's picture

Padbul
Your Spartan Warrior satire was most welcome.
I'd better be careful what I say as he has named me as one of his Warriors.

BigPeteBx's picture

Yes Mark A - not Ashby and Awesome Johnny.
I know the same feeling about befriending people. I've been good at it most of my life. I guess coming from a soccer background, I got used to meeting people from other nationalities and countries.
In my railway days there were many races and ethnics of the day.
The railways employed many nationalities and I was proud that I spoke and was treated friendly.
My little girl is now 22 and on the go with her double Uni degree, which she should graduate in this year. She puts a lot into her work and even the volunteering things she does, as part of her community involvement.
She's been offered a couple of big jobs and really she'll need to leave home town to pursue her studies in a greater field as a career.
It will be hard to see, as big capital cities are the only place for many in their chosen fields.

pabdul's picture

sorry mate but i dont like fake people who pretend to be what they are not i havent worked out yet if Spartan is just a frustrated ancient history teacher or a person who invented a time machine. well guess what it works u can go back now.
i hear antman is joining next maybe he'll make u one of his ants.

BigPeteBx's picture

Mark A and Pabdul - all of a sudden this Spartan Warrior comes to life and haunts us with his weekly whacker attack.
Never seen or heard of him before, until a certain Panther left the scene. If he resides near a harbour, maybe the water he is looking at is the Nepean River - harbouring spuds.

Prove to me otherwise, and I'll accept Spartan Warrior and his Greek italics. Then I might get into a chat (not spuds) with him, over Zorba The Greek (not Peters, as I prefer not speak about that bloke - another issue).

BigPeteBx's picture

Pabdul - Atom/Adam and The Ants.
Speak another day if u r speaking, as a past couple of posts you may not have read.

mark ashford's picture

Thought Eels were electric last night.
Rabbits were hopeless.
My Broncs have been done, well it's SOO time and it's going to happen.
This time of year it is so hard to make a pick.
So fans do you love your club or your state more.
Is it more important for your club to win and get those 2 points.
And maybe go on for a premiership.
The original origin concept has been played and won with QLD having a narrow margin over NSW when you look at the whole thing.
I for one would prefer to see just the clubs play each other over the season. Then surely the best club wins without origin depletion.
If you want to keep it then play at seasons end.
The Warrior Mark has spoken.

Baggy_Gee's picture

They are Latin epitaph, not Greek, the product of a miss spent youth.

Baggy_Gee's picture

I can live without origin. I'd rather the club success than a fluff job by the media about how great a state is.

BigPeteBx's picture

Mark - don't belittle yourself, because The Fartin Spartan has singled you out.
U r Bronc not Warrior...........if a warrior, you become one of his chocolate soldiers.

BigPeteBx's picture

Yes Baggy - I prefer NRL Club footy.
Play SoO at end of season after G/Final. Or give NRL/ARL a boost by using it for Aust Kangaroo selections at a given period. Hard to do at times as the draw/timetable is rather tight.

BigPeteBx's picture

Yes Baggy it is Latin (verses) that Spartan uses, but he throws in some Greek myths at times. Has plenty of time to rehearse it all.

mark ashford's picture

Well I guess as we have all agreed this is an amazing site.
We can talk footy and a bit of the other when we want to.
Christine and "a" have come out without fear of criticism.
Johnny A has opened his heart.
Padbul provides comedy and Bid Pete provides everything else.
Fortress provides passion and Baggy Gee can't be faulted for support of his team.
I try to offer support for Broncs and QLD along with Rocket and others.
I've tried some sites based in NSW and man they were full of hate.
Seems there's not a lot of love between the NSW clubs.
Thank you THINKER and TLH for your efforts.
If you get time to read our posts you will see we love you!

pabdul's picture

wheres your mini me the fortress/eagles rock. he said u were going to meet them.
it would be like the scene from mrs doubtfire where he keeps running to the bathroom changing his appearance to pretend to be both people. hellooo

BigPeteBx's picture

"a" - I'm not convinced mate.
Who is Spartan Warrior - all of a sudden a picture appears on the jolly jean machine.
I never knew him, before a certain red sebago took a rest from here.
I think Spartan is a new breed of potato.....maybe a chilli crossbreed as a flamethrower.
The Mighty Spartan Warrior has spoken to us - through his rear end.

BigPeteBx's picture

Pabdul - Fortress has a lot on his plate through footy season.
I prefer Summer to meet with him, for reasons only known to beach side footy clubs. The grass is greener, the sands are adorned and the waves are glistening. Yeah Man - The Beach Boys and Babes.

R u going to answer my previous posts Chook?

mark ashford's picture

Big Pete I was just taking the p--s.
The guy is a fruit loop.
He has promised to only post once each round.
I'm struggling to link him with Coach.
Could Coach take such a change.
Either way what does it matter. We are a family now.

pabdul's picture

bsab im not like the warrior i dont have a time machine. just tell me what u said. you know i always know what your thinking

a's picture

Yeah I not convinced who that Spartan Warrior is but he sure is interesting who ever he is

a's picture

Apperently there's a heavy metal band called Spartan Warrior not that I listen to Metal but has anyone heard of them cause that might be a clue to who this Spartan Warrior is

BigPeteBx's picture

Yes Mark A - we'll call him Kelloggs (Fruit Loops) or Cornelius.
Better not not Cornelius, as he is a chook and Pabdul wont like that.
Struggle with it mate - he writes (in length) like the former that was here....no names now, as it disturbs some others who are our family.
If he posts once a round or once every few days, he has more time than he can dream of to do it, rehearse it and correct it to suit.

If he was a born Warrior - he'd be across the ditch and not supporting The Blues and Moody if you insist, but not a Knight in White Satin.
Hmmmm.....humming any of you.
Just a Warrior, not a Knight, or a Soldier.

pabdul's picture

i bet he wears a marvin the Martian costume

Fortress's picture

Baggy pants your club and you are a farce face the facts what happened at the start of the year is nothing compared to now if we were to play ur tripe tomorrow we would smash the tripe out of your 2nd division crap.that game last night was crap any decent team would of walked all of your bunch of has beens, you know it and eveeybody else knows it they just want to be nice to you on here.

And by the way baggy pants not the one on drugs u loser I bet u your a pot head because ever since I've been on this site all of your posts are the work of a low iq retarded deluded dead zombie and and that is the god dam truth so stick it u know where !!!!!!!!

Baggy_Gee's picture

OK princess, settle down, just pointing out my second div team beat your first div team. And when did I say you were on drugs? Please enlighten me to that.

Fortress's picture

Baggy pants that was an age ago OK check all the resaults in early rounds many upsets but now we can all see the difference between the top teams and the bottom teams facts, resaults tell that story surley your not telling me my clubs standard in the last 9_10 games has been far greater than your club. Let's see we have beaten bulldogs held them to zero ,we beat roosters a heavyweight we beat Canberra a heavyweight both clubs beat your club,we beat South's by 50, u hardly beat them in fact if there was 5 more MTS they would of won such is the sub standard of both clubs and they were very bad,we beat nth qld another heavyweight ,and we beat the titans away after they had beaten the story,we got within 4 points of the storm who have been almost unbeatable after they lead by 24,we pushed the broncos at Suncorp and even Wayne Bennett said the mighty eagles are a major threat, now let's you can see since round 2 that the mighty eagles have gone up leaps and bound, your club in some games have been adequate at best but in most matches and u have to admit quite mediocre, its not fiction its fact .

So baggy pants there you go your club cones no where near my club in the last 3 decades we have won comps ur club has not,we have appeared in more than double the amount than your club in grand finals and semifinal series, our rivalry with the storm and this is not me just saying this but many experts the best rivarly in the last 20 years ,so baggy pannts there is fact .

As far as the drugs thing u have made some remarks regarding my personality I'm not stupid meaning I'm on something I have never ever touched drugs, and u abuse my spelling thinking ur smarter than me I don't think so in fact I tower above u in knowledge of the game in passion in truth ,in talking fact,I've always been myself not sucking up to others.

When I first came on this site coach went out of his way to get rid of me his lies his attacks ,his rudeness not only to me but other posters.

And look who is still here and look who is not,I didn't just get respect from others on this site I had to earn it and I think I've been able to at least get some on here to understand me and to let me be myself.

U and coach on the other hand have both done your best to try and degrade me both insult my club and me,yet when I fight back and stick up for myself ,both of u get shocked about my fight And passion.

I will never back down this is me like it or lump it,the success of my club is fact, the failure of your club is fact!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So baggy pants I'm requesting this from you leave my club and me alone do not post to me,about me ever ,ever again and that's the end of it,I don't like you,and you likewise so please no more that's my final say and good luck to you !!!!!!!!!!

Cheers everyone the fortress !!!!!!!

Baggy_Gee's picture

Yeah we beat the cowboys as well. That's 2 first div teams losing to a second div who are my BOYS.

Baggy_Gee's picture

Thanks Ryan, you really dropped the can in me.
