Round three selections

Brisbane Broncos vs St George Illawarra Dragons – Thursday night – Suncorp Stadium

In recent years the Dragons have started the season well only to falter at the business end of proceedings. Not so in 2019, although they have faced two formidable opponents thus far. This opponent looks no less formidable. The Broncos pack stood up and delivered in the Queensland derby and the result was never in doubt. Korbin Sims adds some vigour in the middle for the Dragons. They still bring a powerful pack to Suncorp on Thursday, but with Frizell and de Belin unavailable I expect they'll be out-muscled again.

Verdict – Broncos by 10

Result – Dragons 25 defeated Broncos 24

Canberra Raiders vs Newcastle Knights – Friday night – GIO Stadium

Two former fullbacks come five-eighths face each other in Jack Wighton and Kalyn Ponga. The jury is still out on whether either of them can become the next Darren Lockyer, but thus far they've both made a pretty good fist of their new roles. The Raiders were competitive against the Storm last week and that's looking like reasonable form (as it has been for about 20 years now). Both teams have impressed me with their defence and I'm expecting a tight, low-scoring contest here. Home advantage and the steadying influence of Jarrod Croker can get the green machine over the line.

Verdict – Raiders by 2

Result – Raiders 17 defeated Knights 10

Parramatta Eels vs Sydney Roosters – Friday night – ANZ Stadium

The Eels remain undefeated but I'm leaping to the conclusion that the Roosters competitive loss to the Rabbits and a good win over the Sea Eagles at Brookvale is better form than Eels victories over the Panthers and Bulldogs. Mind you, it's very early in the season to be leaping to any conclusions. Luke Keary was outstanding for the Chooks last weekend and I expect he'll be even better with Jake Friend and Cooper Cronk set to return. Regardless the Eels are entitled to go into this game with confidence. The game of the round I say.

Verdict – Roosters by 7

Result – Roosters 32 defeated Eels 18

Manly Sea Eagles vs New Zealand Warriors – Saturday afternoon – Christchurch Stadium

Some guides have this game being played at Lottoland and it's pretty darn important for tipsters to know that it isn't – Manly are taking this game to Christchurch. How the Warriors respond to this is anyone's guess, but they were very impressive in their first game at Mt Smart in the aftermath of the Christchurch shootings. I'll assume they will respond positively again. The return of Tom Trbojevic for the Sea Eagles couldn't come soon enough...but I doubt it's enough.

Verdict – Warriors by 10

Result – Sea Eagles 46 defeated Warriors 12

North Queensland Cowboys vs Cronulla Sharks – Saturday afternoon – 1300SMILES Stadium

This is the game that has me scratching my enormous head more than any other in round three. The Cowboys pack will be desperate to prove they can deliver without Taumalolo, especially at home. That would normally give me reason enough to tip them, but not this time. Paul Gallen goes past Andrew Ettingshausen as the player to pull on the Sharks jersey more than any other player. As much as I don't like the bloke, it's an extraordinary achievement given the position he plays and the amount of games he couldn't play during his career due to suspensions and representative duties. The Sharks will be desperate to win for the cranky old buggar, and I expect ET will be there to wish him well before and after the game.

Verdict – Sharks by 4

Result – Sharks 42 defeated Cowboys 16

Penrith Panthers vs Melbourne Storm – Saturday night – Carrington Park

An improved performance from the Penrith Panthers in round two but consistency remains an issue. Not only do they need to perform week in week out but they need to perform throughout the 80 minutes of a match. The Panthers continue to drift in and out of games and you can't do that against the very good sides. Consistency has never been an issue for the purple machine.

Verdict – Storm by 8

Result – Storm 32 defeated Panthers 2

Wests Tigers vs Canterbury Bulldogs – Sunday afternoon – Campbelltown Stadium

The awkwardly named Wests Tigers have been in the NRL competition since the turn of this century. I'm advised by the stats gurus that this is the first time in their history they've been on top of the NRL ladder. After this game they will be on the top of the NRL ladder for the second time in their history.

Verdict – Tigers by 8

Result – Bulldogs 22 defeated Tigers 8

South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Gold Coast Titans – Sunday night – ANZ Stadium

Wayne Bennett, stubborn old buggar that he is, doesn't mind proving a point. Since his spectacularly unceremonious departure from the club he contributed so much to, he's settled into his new lodgings quite nicely thanks very much. The Rabbitohs haven't looked like losing, while their opponents this weekend haven't looked like winning. Someone out there will be bold enough to tip the Titans on Sunday...but it won't be me.

Verdict – Rabbitohs by 14

Result – Rabbitohs 28 defeated Titans 20

Wally Lewis - round three selections (in bold)

  • BRONCOS vs Dragons
  • RAIDERS vs Knights
  • EELS vs Roosters
  • Sea Eagles vs WARRIORS

Morning all,
Just a quick note whilst getting ready for work. Haven’t had much time to chat recently due to my weekly travel commitments to see my Mum.
Firstly, my apologies Mr ‘a’ for forgetting to submit my pick this round, I had a fair bit on my mind, but hey Mr ‘a’, I’m still in with a chance if I play my cards right. I’ll definitely give you my pick this week, thanks for your understanding.

Mr Thinker, nice work on that honour board, it’s a nice touch.

Big Pete, it was actually great to have a yarn with you on the phone. Please send my kind regards to your daughter for the use of her mobile as well. Also, I’m glad your wife is recovering, hospitals can be upsetting places but they can also be rewarding when you see people getting well from the care they receive. I’ll be travelling up to the central west on a fortnightly basis now that Mum’s in Rylstone hospital. We’ll definitely catch up on Sunday mate.

Lastly, it was good to see a live game of footy after all these months. I went to the Canberra vs Melbourne game on Friday. Melbourne were just machine like in the first half and Canberra looked underdone. Canberra will get better when they stop panicking and pushing those unnecessary passes. Most of all, Canberra’s defence is looking the goods and if they keep up that attitude and lessen the error rate, they’ll make the eight for sure. However, I’m not sure about St George and as I’ve mentioned in the past, I don’t rate Mary’s coaching ability as nice a bloke as he is. I’m not happy with the team placement and coaching, hopefully he’ll prove me wrong.

Amyway, cheers all, I hope everyone has a fine week.
Regards from the original Johnny Awesome

Good morning J A.
Good to see you arrived home ok Awesome J.
Great having a chat on phone.
Showers here yesterday afternoon and has been raining since after around 1.30am'ish this morning.

Is that this Sunday or two weeks from yesterday, that I plan in for catching up?

To all Thinker site readers and "bloggers" out there. Looks like a soft track for this coming Saturday night at Carrington. Storm play Penrith Panthers here in Bx.
It will be a busy Saturday here and I'm unable to attend the match, but will watch progress scores, as it goes along.
Both teams will no doubt do their promotional stuff and coaching with schools etc. The city's main street light posts, have banners decorating them for the match, for on a fortnight now.

Cheers J A and others
Big Pete in Bx

Baggy_Gee's picture

How soft are we talking about Pete, injury soft or hard to handle soft. Hoping for the latter as we have had too many knees injured already this season.

Greetings tipsters

I have updated the tipping comp after round two. Plenty of high scores this round but standing ovations for JackStarky and DarKHorsE who both got 8 from 8.

Outstanding work.

I'll have my previews and tips published tomorrow.

All the best

Hey Big Pete,
I'll try to catch with up you Saturday 6th April, on my way through to Kandos, if you can make it. ‘She who must be obeyed’ has reminded me that I need to be back in Canberra by 3 pm on the Sunday to take my daughter for her ‘P’ off course with the Road Ready folk. Yep, I’ve got to be quicker than Ben Barba’s footy comeback on Sunday, sorry mate. Anyway, I should be in Bathurst by 11.30 to 12.00 pm on the Saturday if you can do it. I’m happy to meet at Jack Duggans or the RSL club if you can do it Big Pete?
Cheers mate from the original Johnny Awesome

Evening Folks

Well done to those who scored well in round 2, its going to be a competitive comp this year for us Tipsters. Bring on round 3.

Tiger

Jack.Starky's picture

Thanks Thinker, reckon it will be hard to get 8 this week with some hard picks
Raiders v Knights 50/50
Cowboys v Sharks with the Taumalolo out
Manly v Warriors but playing in NZ
and potential upset Eels v Roosters with the premiers down a couple of key players.

Brad S's picture

Definitely worth a standing ovation for Jack Starky and Darkhorse for picking the round. There were some tricky games to pick too. 14/16 for Jack Starky for the first 2 rounds. Very impressive!

Dragons-fanboy's picture

Hello everyone, my tips for this week:

Broncos by 10 - Yes I am going against my beloved Dragons this week. I'm going to say it now, I don't like what Mary has been doing with the Dragons so far this season with this whole reshuffling thing. Put Dufty at fullback, Widdop and Hunt in the halves and keep McInnes at the hooker for the whole 80 minutes. It worked last season, especially at the start of the season. But where does that leave Norman, maybe have him in the halves with Widdop and put Hunt at hooker and McInnes in the 13 or even on the bench and he can come on for Hunt. Just something simple is what I am asking for. No reshuffle. It seems that the reshuffling will continue this week and it won't pay off again unfortunately even though Dufty has been coming on against a tired team/tired pack. But for me, he has been coming on too late. The Broncos on the other hand, got a surprisingly good win against the Cowboys last week. And when I mean surprising, I mean that I thought t would be a close game and game of the year material, not the blowout that it ended up being. The forwards for the Broncos look formidable and should get the win in the forward battle against the Dragons. The Broncos at home to get the win here.

Raiders by 2 - This was a very tough game for me to tip. But I think the Raiders at home will get the win. The Raiders' loss to the Storm doesn't really hurt them quite like the Knights losing to the Panthers I feel. The Raiders were competitive against the Storm and gave them a contest. The Knights on the other hand lost a game that they could've won yet they weren't good enough to. I could see the Knights bouncing back this week but I can also see the Raiders bouncing back this week and I can just see this happening more.

Roosters by 12 - This will be a cracking game of footy. The confident, high-flying Eels up against the Roosters, who have got a win in their belt and with 2 of their big guns back in Cronk and Friend has made them stronger even with Brett Morris out. For me, the Roosters will be too good for the Eels here.

Warriors by 4 - Warriors to get the win here in what will be an emotional day for the Warriors playing in Christchurch.

Sharks by 14 - With the injuries of Taumalolo and Feldt and the suspension of Bolton for the Cowboys, I feel that the Sharks' forward pack will be able to handle the Cowboys much better now that Taumalolo and Bolton are out for the Cowboys. Sharks will be too good for the Cowboys here.

Storm by 6 - Storm to continue to be at their clinical best and to get yet another victory over the Panthers but not without a fight from the Panthers.

Tigers by 18 - I reckon the Tigers will win and win well here over the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs have just been awful this season so far with the only exception being the first 20-25 minutes against the Eels. The Tigers on the other hand, geez their first time ever in their 20-year history that they are on top of the ladder as the Wests Tigers so I just want to congratulate the Tigers on that and they have looked really good in their first two games of the season and I think that'll continue this week.

And finally... Rabbitohs by 32 - This game won't be good for the Titans, Titans fans. A full-strengthened Rabbitohs side against an inform-injury riddled Titans side. What other result will there be I'm sorry to say. I mean rugby league is a funny game but it won't be so funny for the Titans. They've only scored one try in two games and they're coming up against a side who've won against two strong teams in the Roosters and Dragons and have won well. One result for me and that is the Rabbitohs to run rampant over the Titans and put a cricket score on them.

Awesome. Good luck with everyone's teams for this week and with everyone's tips for this week. Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dragons-fanboy's picture

Sorry not an inform Titans side should be more like out of form lol.

Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi All
Some difficult picks this week, when is it any different?
Sharks have a lot to play for but so do the Cowboys. Some big names out for the Cows but they have a habit of winning at home.
Hope they spoil game # 34873 for Gallen...when will this grub retire?

Mary S's picture

Hi Mark,
I see Jake Clifford has been included in the Cowboys side again. He played a few games last season and made me think at the time, of JT and his perceptiveness and anticipation in reading the game.

Jake seemed to show the same ability to read the play, think with his head, and play any advantage.
Great to see him back and hope he does well this week.

Good luck with the tipping folks!!!
Cheers, Mary

Here’s my tips

Broncos by 6 I think the Broncos will continue their good for. against the Dragons

Knights by 2 I’m giving a the Knights are chance to impress me here

Roosters by 8 I think the Roosters will end the Eels good form here

Warriors by 4 if the game was at Manly I would tip an upset but since the game is at Chrischruch I am tipping the Warriors

Cowboys by 1 I am not to confident here but the Cowboys to win

Storm. By 8 I think the Storm will e to good for Panthers

West Tigers by 6 I think the Bulldogs will challenge Tigers but at the end of the day Tigers to go from 3 from 3

Rabbitohs by 20 No Inglis shouldn’t be a worry for the Rabbitohs here

christine 's picture

Mark
At least you know gallen will retire one day but smith won't & you know gallen will have to be shown the door , now before anyone jumps down my throat you cannot put smith & gallen in the same class we all know gallen is a grub the thinker often says so & he is right gallen is but I have always claimed smith is a protected species & I am standing by that comment he does get away with things other players / teams wouldn't / don't so he is protected ...

christine 's picture

My tips rd 3
broncos
raiders
roosters
warriors
sharks
storm
tigers
souths
good luck with your tips everyone ...

Johnny Awesome's picture

Hi all,
Hey Christine
I agree with Cam Smith being a tad protected. On Friday night Melbourne were really skinny on the 10 with Smith leading the way, the refs didn’t see it that way though. Regardless, Melbourne were better, well drilled and deserved the win. Disagree with your thoughts on Gallen though, Going back 5 years + or so ago, you might have had a point, but he’s been pretty clean for a while now. Alas, the sins of his past will continue to haunt Gallen, not that it worries him. It actually motivates him. He would be lost for words if someone said anything nice about him. Catch ya all.
Cheers from the original Johnny Awesome

christine 's picture

Johnny awesome
I will leave you to argue that one on out on gallen being a grub with the thinker & besides that we are only two rounds into a new season give it time although we are talking about gallen here & surely you know by now johnny the thinker hates gallen ...

christine 's picture

Johnny awesome
I think that was the first time you haven't agreed with me , what does she who must be obeyed have to say about that not you not a greeing with me but about gallen being a grub ???

Johnny Awesome's picture

Hey Christine,
She who must be obeyed also thinks Gallen is a grub. She was happy when he retired from the blues. She was also not a fan of Ennis especially when he made of the Viking clap. I quietly listened to the various rants when they played and quietly replied.......yes dear. Cheers from Mr Awesome

christine 's picture

Johnny awesome
Don't get me wrong ennis is a little provoking niggleing grub as well but gallen is the cheat I don't care what anyone says gallen knew what was going into his body he can lie all he wants too I believe it is a culture in that club & what I was referring too with smith is over the years when the big the were still at storm ( slater ,cronk, smith ) if things weren't going there way in a game & a refs decision was going to go against storm I have seen billy slater walk over to the ref & have a word in his ear then sure enough it all changes & goes in there favour when clearly it shouldn't have & that happened on several occasions there is another team that was also a protected species & that is roosters in the past I can't say they are as bad now with it as they used to be years ago but storm does hold that trophy for that as far as I am concerned ...

Baggy_Gee's picture

OMFG, when the Sharks took what they took, it was not banned by WADA. They also finished outside the 8, it wasn't the wonder drug people go on about. And exactly like salary cap cheating if one team was using it, others would have been using it as well as player welfare and recovery is paramount. Lay off Gallen, and lets talk actual football and not this soap opera crap.

Christine 's picture

That funny coming from a eels supporter sorry baggy but you adked for that one we are all entitled to our opinions & so are you ...

Christine 's picture

Before you go jumping down my throat for that comment baggy i am not taking anything away from parravs start this season i happen tk think they are playing very well & i think there coach is bringing the best out of them i also think fergo had been a great but for them but when thsy had kenny edwards playing for them thats a guy with issuses & it is not a soap opera wr were talking about football be it past & or present ok no one is attaking anyone so settle down baggy ...

newbie from perth's picture

Sa-wat-dee krup,

Phew! Nearly didn’t make it tonight. Thought my laptop had bitten the dust. No, not a blue screen but a grey one instead. Got cranky and had 3 goes at getting it up’n’running to no avail. Came back an hour later and all good, albeit a tad on the slow-ish side.

Anyway, I’ve realised my posts are a wee bit long which is down to the natural “story-teller” in me. I’m gonna try and shorten them up a bit. Can’t promise anything but I’ll try my best. Another week is upon us and looking forward to watching Baggy’s BOYS up against Newbie’s BB(oys)B. The battle of the “boys” (ha-ha). OK, let’s get into it…

Broncos vs Dragons 70-30 @ Suncorp
I got sucked in by all the talk about Brisbane starting slow but they proved us all wrong last week. The Dragons made too many errors last week which cost them. They’re also not consistent enough so far this year it seems. Brisbane short-priced favourites is good enough for me. Let’s go the Broncos.

Raiders vs Knights 75-25 @ GIO Stadium
The Raiders looked half a chance last week but belly-flopped. Seems I (and many others) got fooled by all the Newcastle hype. Bookies prices says it’ll be close(ish) but my ratings don’t. Raiders for me.

Eels vs Roosters 40-60 @ ANZ Stadium
Ooh Baggy, let’s get this on! Eels have started (real) well. You must be so glad that Blake is on fire. My BBB bounced back from their loss against the Bunnies (thank god for that). Bookies prices suggest otherwise but I think this will be a close one. The Eels have me a little worried but I have enough confidence to tip against ‘em here. Roosters all the way. Begurk! Begurk!

Manly vs Warriors 40-60 @ AMI Stadium
Manly lost to my BBB last week but all reports suggest they played a great second half. Methinks they’re “getting close”. The Warriors losing by 28 last week has me wondering about their ability to play out a full 80 minutes. Ratings and prices point towards the Warriors in this one. I’m really liking the Manly boys but will play safe and stick with the Warriors in this one.

Cowboys vs Sharks 65-35 @ 1300Smiles
Those Cowboys disappointed last week and have Taumalolo missing for quite a while. The Cry-Baby’s going to break ET’s record so that’s gotta be worth something. The Sharks to grind out one of their trademark wins here.

Panthers vs Storm 40-60 @ Carrington Park
Yeah the Panthers won last week but were far from impressive whereas the Storm did it relatively easy against the Raiders. Interesting to see that the Storm have won 17 times in the past 19 games against Penrith. Don’t think playing at Bathurst will be a problem so it’s the Storm for me.

Tigers vs Bulldogs 65-35 @ Campbelltown
Haven’t the Tigers been impressive so far. Then again, I seem to recall past seasons where they started in a blaze of glory but then faded a bit. Will this year be different I wonder. The Bulldogs are trying to get their first win but you can’t give away 76 points in your first 2 games and expect to come out in Week 3 and knock off a side like the Tigers. I just can’t see that happening. In the meantime they really need to plug up those holes if they ever want to get some wins under their belt. No brainer here. Tigers for me.

Rabbitohs vs Titans 85-15 @ ANZ Stadium
I was on the NRL website and saw that the Bunnies lead the competition in tries, points, kick return metres and try assists so far this year. That explains a lot. The Titans aren’t travelling too well at the minute. 41 against versus 6 for. Yikes! Unless this game is played in Bizarro World (where everything is the opposite), I just can’t make a case for the Titans. The confirmation of that is in the poor rating figures they have. Bunnies for me.

Let’s finish off with another “Song of the Week”…

You’ll either hate this or love it. Just wanna say thank you falettinme be mice elf again.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRd26Jtnp5I

OK kids, good luck with your tipping and may your team win by 40 points! Until next week people. Cheers.

newbie from perth's picture

P.S. Yeah, I realise my "ratings" have the Cowboys vs Sharks at 65-35 but I'm going against those figures and tipping the Sharks. Just thought I'd clarify that for y'all...

Mary S's picture

Hi Newbie,
Always great to read your 'stories'

Remember that the Manly/Warrior match is being played at Christchurch Stadium, not AMI.

The recent tragedy experienced in Christchurch will fire the Warriors I imagine, to show support and solidarity against terrorism.
Cheers, Mary

Baggy_Gee's picture

It will be a problem Newbie, I'm going for the BOYS and I'm worried myself as I have always liked Friend (just not when we play him). It has been a great start to the season, sitting second on the ladder after last year barely holding on to the bottom rung. But may the best team win, that being the BOYS and not the undersized, overfed no.12 frozen poultry from the beach.

newbie from perth's picture

@ Mary
Thanks for venue update. Won't change the tip (obviously) but good to see you're looking out for me. Have a great day young lady...

@ Baggy
Enjoy and savor the view from up there while you can my friend. Yeah, may the best team win (most of the time they do) and good luck for the game. Ha-Ha, still laughin' at your "undersized, overfed no.12 frozen poultry from the beach" comment. Nice one bro'. You (just like Mary) have a great day...

The Butcher's picture

Baggy
I’ll be going to this game as most of my mates are eels supporters come to think of it none of my friends are roosters supporters I gotta hang around Bondi Junction more
I’m not convinced with Parra as yet because they haven’t played a real contender and this will be the game to see where they’re at
If they play for 80 and don’t knock off there in with a chance
The roosters defence is a step up and the eels need to score 20+ to win
But there are ways to cause an upset
For one Cronk limits Keary as he gets the overriding call the less Keary involvement is a good thing for the eels
Bash them early the roosters don’t like it
Bait Latrell
It’s not hard he has anger issues lately
It could go down to a missed goal or the battle between tupou and Ferguson in the air
Can’t wait

NuL1F3's picture

G-day all, a very poor start to my tipping season and I am pretty sure that trend will continue this week as I have gone against the odds much more than I would have liked but hey, we are here for a good time not a long time. My tips for round 3 are:

Dragons
Knights
Roosters
Warriors
Cowboys
Storm
Tigers
Rabbitohs

I expect a few really close games this week, though I have said that before. I feel the knights were robbed last week due to some bad luck and I am betting on them hitting the field to change that against the Raiders who no doubt will want to do the same.

I also feel the Cowboys let themselves down a little more than Broncos outright beating them, though those southern boys played a very tough game and will no doubt be fierce in the hunt for Dragons tonight. Even without the machine that is JT, Cowboys will be putting up a hell of a fight on home ground, time will tell if it will be enough.

Good luck to all in the comp!

NuL1F3's picture

Just realised I am the only one to have tipped Dragons haha! This will be a true Hero or Zero (point your finger and laugh at my face) game lol.

Baggy_Gee's picture

I agree with the bait latrell, but you don't even need to say a word to him. Frustrate him, Hit him in a good legal tackle and that sets him off. I don't mind my team or any team having that mongrel edge, but he takes it to far. The Cronk issue is more if he goes down injured you guys are short, not sold on his fitness, it feels a knee jerk reaction rushing him back. Give him another week or two as the season is won at the back end not the first month. As for hanging around Bondi, probably not the safest life choices you could make.

The Butcher's picture

Newsflash
Cronk has been ruled out
Sorry baggy

manyana's picture

Hi all, here are my guesses for round 3.
Broncos
Raiders
Eels
Warriors
Sharks
Storm
Tigers
Rabbits
Good luck to all tipsters, manyana.

Baggy_Gee's picture

Damn, that's going to make our job harder, Lam didn't go to badly last week and he let kleary do his thing. Might be a bad night for the BOYS. But power of positive thought, we can do this, we are incredible, we can win!!!!!!!!

Baggy_Gee's picture

The Girls are 9/16 went 6/8 last week so better than I did. their tips this weekend
Broncos (Nearly everybody in the house goes for the Broncos, That is very very untrue)
Raiders (Because they are green????)
Roosters (because my Daughters are traitors)
Manly (Because at some point we have to get it right)
Sharks (Because they are from the ocean)
Storm (I like blackout, but not a lot)
Tigers (Because they run faster and are camouflaged)
Titans (because reasons i guess)

Mary S's picture

Oh Baggy, I did enjoy your recent post - the No. 12 frozen poultry still has me going!

I also enjoy the reasons (if true) your girls pick the teams, after all, they are probably as good a reason as any of ours some weeks!

Even though I have backed Roosters to win this week, I hope your"BOYS" continue to do well.

Cheers, Mary

Brad S's picture

G'day everyone,
Another tricky round to pick. A few flip of the coin games and surely there will be an upset or 2. Have started the tipping year very ordinarily so hopefully can see some improvement this week.
I'll tip the Broncos to win tonight but wouldn't be surprised if Hunt and Sims inspire the Dragons to an upset win.
Raiders to pip the Knights in a close one.
Roosters will be too strong for Parra even without Cronk.
I've got a gut feeling that Manly will upset the Warriors but I'll still back the Warriors to win with the emotion of playing in Christchurch.
Storm, Tigers and Rabbitohs to all keep on doing what they've been doing and pick up another win.
Best of luck everyone!

Mary S's picture

Hi Ezra Star, Brad S and Hardyards,

Just a reminder
You have submitted your tips but not your selection for 'A's' 3 strike comp. Not sure if you had forgotten or not continuing
Cheers, Mary

Baggy_Gee's picture

They are genuine reasons Mary, it seems to be the first thing that comes to their minds. The Manly one was mine, they keep going with them, bound to get it right at some point in the season. But knowing the way it goes they won't pick them on day they get up.

mark ashford's picture

Baggy
Getting under Latrelles skin is as easy as peeling a mandarin.
While he is certainly a gifted player I feel he will be a problem for the Chooks this year. He is certainly on the refs radar and Robinson needs to get him to take some chill pills (are they legal?)
OK OK I'll leave Mr Paul G alone from here unless he does something really naughty. Some respect for a 1 club man.
p.s. can you email your kids picks each week? gotta be better than I'm doing now.

Baggy_Gee's picture

Sure Mark, as you notice they comfortably beat me as well. There is something, apart from the anger, I don't like about Mitchell. He feels similar to James Roberts, but I have never seen the Roosters warm up. Roberts never seems to have a partner for stretches, stands apart from the team during the warm up like he is an island. Is Mitchell like that or does he add to the fabric of the team. That's what I am loving about Blake, he is doing what Kenny and Clint did, a positive mouth, and he never seems to shut up. I think his contribution has been just as much team coherency as the 300m and 2 tries last weekend.

mark ashford's picture

Broncos v Dragons
Tariq & Korbin Simms line up against their (correct me if I'm wrong) former team. Was it Tariq or Corbin that tore the Broncs apart in a final game last year. They will be up for this game.
Tavita Pangai Junior needs to repeat last weeks performance for the Broncs to win.
Just heard the Roosters are offering him a contract (must be big $$) for next year. Is anyone looking at the Roosters cap position? or is Politis untouchable

Spartan Warrior's picture

Greetings to ye all from the Spartan Warrior

Round 3 tips;

1. Broncos by 12
2. Raiders by 13
3. Roosters by 1
4. Warriors by 6
5. Cowboys by 6
6. Storm by 4
7. Wests tigers by 8

Tis the third round of the regular season and rugby league is backeth with all thy things yond maketh it great. I recall a movie hath called the good, the bad and ugly. Yea, rugby is backeth with these traits and much more. Thy game is greater than any one person and any one management or controversy. Aye, tis time to sit backeth and enjoyeth another week.

Thanks Mary! I completely forgot.

Mark, it was Tariq who tore us apart in that final but Korbin played so badly for the Broncs that you’d think he’d put his new Dragons jersey on early.

Tricky decision for the Broncos to try and match the Roosters money. TPJ is amazing but misses a fair few games each year with his dodgy hammies to be getting $1m a season.
