South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Canterbury Bulldogs – Thursday night – ANZ Stadium
To avoid the spoon, the Bulldogs will need to win this game or their final round clash with the minor premiers. A top four finish seems unlikely but not impossible for the Rabbits, but top six gives them home ground advantage in week one of the finals. The Dogs have been starting well in recent weeks, but are getting run down because they just don't have enough class in their roster. Josh Jackson plays his 200th NRL game here, and I've no doubt the Dogs will put in and make a game of this. I also have no doubt the Bunnies will be too good over the 80 minutes.
Verdict – Rabbitohs by 10
Result – Bulldogs 26 defeated Rabbitohs 16
North Queensland Cowboys vs Penrith Panthers – Friday night – Queensland Country Bank Stadium
The Cowboys face an impossible task here, and not just because they are taking on a team that need just one more win to secure the minor premiership. The Thinker is heading up to Townsville for the weekend and will be at the game. I've been to quite a few Cowboys games now, and every time I'm there they lose. The Panthers are resting Tamou and Koroisau, while the Cowboys will be missing McGuire, Asiata and O'Neill. Taumalolo is close to a return but unlikely. In round ten the Cowboys gave the Panthers a scare but eventually succumbed 22-10. The Cowboys are less scary this time, but the margin could be frightening.
Verdict – Panthers by 22
Result – Panthers 32 defeated Cowboys 12
Parramatta Eels vs Brisbane Broncos – Friday night – Bankwest Stadium
When these sides met earlier this season the Broncos were one of the favourites to win the premiership. That was back in round three, and we have all watched the Broncos season unravel ever since. The Eels are clinging to the top four and this game, potentially at least, gives them a chance to keep the Raiders at bay. That said, their recent results are shakier than a jellyfish tower. In round 12 they beat the Dogs by 2. In round 13 the Sharks by 2. In round 14 they lost to the Dragons. In round 15 they played the Sunshine Coast Falcons/Storm and won 14-0. The win over the Warriors in round 16 had its share of controvery, and their two recent performances against sides in the top eight have seen the Eels concede 58 points and not score a single try. It's been a long season without any byes or rep footy, and I think the Eels have run out of puff. They're tired, but they would have to be asleep to lose to the Broncos. The Broncos are too tired to be tired.
Verdict – Eels by 20
Result – Eels 26 defeated Broncos 12
Manly Sea Eagles vs Gold Coast Titans – Saturday afternoon – Lottoland
The Sea Eagles have named all three Trbojevic brothers in their extended list for Saturday. It would be bloody tremendous if they all played. For those not familiar with youngest brother Ben, he's like a combination of his older brothers. He can play in the back row or the centres, and he's a big unit with speed. I'll add a link below to a highlights reel, but I look forward to seeing all three of them fronting up for the Sea Eagles in the years ahead. The Titans just keep keeping on, quietly over-achieving while the other Queensland teams flounder like...flounder. They can finish as high as ninth this season, which isn't shabby for a team most expected to be our wooden spooners. Taylor seems happy (and fit) in the halves, and he has some quality forwards and a promising spine to help him on his way. $2.85 for the Titans here if you like them and are into that sort of thing. Doesn't look right to me. Ben Trbojevic highlights.
Verdict – Titans by 2
Result – Titans 42 defeated Sea Eagles 24
Melbourne Storm vs Wests Tigers – Saturday night – Sunshine Coast Stadium
Storm ballboy Brandon Smith broke his face (again) about 40 minutes ago, and he's been named on the extended list for the Storm. The little champ must be made of lego. The Storm will probably finish the season in second position, but a minor premiership or dropping to third are still viable outcomes, so they aren't likely to take this game lightly (not that the Storm ever do). The Tigers top eight aspirations are officially over, and most of the interest in this game will be around the performance of Harry Grant against his proper club. He's a good one, not that the Storm need any more good ones.
Verdict – Storm by 28
Result – Storm 50 defeated Tigers 22
Sydney Roosters vs Cronulla Sharks – Saturday night – Sydney Cricket Ground
The Roosters are resting a few big guns on Saturday night, with Tedesco and Taukeiaho warming the pine. Manu slots in at fullback, and he's usually brilliant when he does. The Sharks have secured their top eight berth but have struggled all year against the better teams. By way of example, in round 17 they lost to the Knights 38-10. One week later the Knights played the Roosters, and lost 42-12. I can't see the Chooks beating the Sharks by 60, but I can't see them losing either.
Verdict – Roosters by 24
Result – Roosters 34 defeated Sharks 18
Canberra Raiders vs New Zealand Warriors – Sunday afternoon – GIO Stadium
The Raiders attack is finding its feet late in the season - they've scored 30+ points in three of their last four outings. That game where they didn't was against the Roosters, so forgiveable. The Warriors have done tremendously well this season, but their finals campaign is over and they've had to send back all the troops they borrowed from other clubs. Back the green, mean winning machine.
Verdict – Raiders by 22
Result – Raiders 26 defeated Warriors 14
Newcastle Knights vs St George Illawarra Dragons – Sunday night – McDonald Jones Stadium
The Dragons have an imposing record over the Knights but they have nothing to play for on Sunday night...expect pride, and they haven't shown a lot of that. The Knights have won four in a row at home and this is their last game in Newcastle for the season (unless they jag a home final somehow). They were truly ordinary against the Chooks, but I'm pretty confident here.
Verdict – Knights by 8
Result – Knights 42 defeated Dragons 18

Submitted by Guru Craig on
With all the talk of player trades and swaps The Guru feels there are several clubs who could use some new talent in the boardroom.
Big props to the Boss enjoying the good life, one week fishing next week in tropical NQ...Guru wishes he was there...maybe next year, The G is about to launch 2.0 and thinking The isle of Magnetic might be the right fit, it certainly suited the Little Guru many years ago. If you haven't left yet Thinker, tell the Brisbane boys if they win this week the Guru will cancel his Covid Storm jersey order...lol
Some hidden value this week if you look hard enough. Souths -3.5 @1.25 is the pick of the round for the G, with Titans H2H @2.85 good value. Para -29.5 @3.50 and Raiders -12.5 @1.62 are looking tasty.
Rabbits v Bulldogs
Souths - Reynolds will be looking for a better performance after last week. Souths started on fire against the Tigers but fell away into silly errors. Full credit to the Tigers who applied pressure and threw the ball around well, but Souths will want to display more discipline. This should be a much better game for Souths. The only news coming out of the Bulldogs seems to come with a Hazardous substance warning, Toxicity central the Doggies board room. Souths to win well.
Cowboys v Panthers
Panthers - If Josh 'the grub' was available would Penrith be resting the big blokes? There isn't a great deal going on for the home side. NQ had a few flashes of scintillating attack in between wet paper bag defence against the Covid Stormers but, well NQ are fairly ordinary, Penrith would have to throw this game to lose. Gus assures The Guru they wont. Seeing as how its the topic of the week, here's a few cents...The Guru has respect for The pennies season so far, but the area they fall down in, is toughness. The outside backs. Wingers/Centres - The blokes they have there got dominated physically by Para. Both sides of the field dropped balls and missed tackles under pressure. Youth is good, but when faced with proper hard men the Pennies crack. The Guru does not feel Penrith have enough to win season 2020. They have hit their peak already. Guru feels they will struggle with Souths, Mel , Canberra and Chooks come October.
Para v Bronco's
Para - Brisbane got a lot of players back last week but that sign in the crowd....says it all. The Eels will want to sharpen up their attack and this game is a perfect opportunity. Para would be looking for another 58 point win here. The key to playing Brisbane this year is to tough it out until the Bronc's have had enough, then its a ten try blitz. Could be 15m could be 30m but the score will roll-on. Para should be fired-up and ready to show everyone, fans, commentators alike that they're not gone this year, because it sure looks like they are. Might be worth a yellow or green note on Para 30+
Manly v Titans
Titans - Possibly the toughest game to tip this round. Turbo Tom could make an appearance and the game is at Fort Brookvale, we have the Gangster who needs to run away from Sydney and more injuries than you could throw a hospital at on the Silvertails side. The other former Seabirds team welcome back their captain. Proctor will want to lead from the front and will be looking a for a big game. The Guru needs to be cautious because he has been caught out a few times recently, believing teams will lift, when in reality they often fellover and played dead. Oh well thats footy. Titans should be good enough, probably a 24-22 type of game.
Storm v Tigers
Covid Stormers - The Tigers should get a few trys this week if Melbourne play as they did last round. Bellyache will be upset with the errors his team made against the Cows and you'd think would be focusing on discipline from his boys. Melbourne are to good to lose this game. Benji will give a decent account and let's hope his left winger has had some catching practice. Stormers to finish off this week, solid win. 13+
Roosters v Sharks
Roosters - The 2 time premiers vs the pretenders. Cronulla were fortunate to win last week. Johnson was very good and he won them that game with a bit of help from the refs and against a side who probably didn't really want to play finals. Those last 15 minutes really showed that NZ and Cronulla are not finals ready, neither side was good enough to worry the top six sides right now. This game will probably not differ too much from the Chooks go round last week. Chooks 20+
Raiders v Warriors
Raiders - Canberra will win this game at home and win it well. NZ have battled through a tough year and to be honest, The Guru is disappointed in himself for not noticing earlier, The Kiwi boys heart was not in the game last week. Error after error after error. You cant blame them really, they haven't seen there families all year and staying in the bubble another month vs going home to wives, kids and GFs...NZ could have won, but they cant and wont this week. Can 13+
Knights v Dragons
Knights - Newcastle should be able to get their last win of 2020 this week. The Guru picked the forfeit last week, and you only need watch interviews with Adam O'Brien this week to see the club does not expect to play much of a part in this years finals. At least their honest. You dont cop a 40pt belting and win a premiership. They should have played a full side and treated it like a finals game, not throw the game! St George have nothing to play for, its a pity because they could win this game. Newcastle are soft in the forwards and error prone across the park, The Titans will towel them up next week. Last game of the round, probably ugly and hard to watch. New 1-12.

Hi Christine
I think Coach has gone under ground again, or at least he appears to have got the message that none of us appreciate his attacj=ks on most of us all of the time.
I'm not even sure if I like him when he shares his stats, his streaks, I don't need to be an accountant or a numbers geek to realise the Tigers are on a losing streak of missing the finals and it is the longest of any club, maybe I'm smarter than Coach.
Anyways, lets move past "he whom we will not mention again" and talk footy. The draw this week looks to be fairly straight forward, for those of us trying to peg back 1 or 2 points it makes it hard.
I can't see too many upsets but in saying that there are teams that are resting players like the Roosters for one, Brisbane would but they are out of players.
Will have to have a think after golf today to see if I can come up with any weak cog in one of the favourites.
Have a great Thursday folks, Rocket Ryan I hope you are well old mate.

I'll probably take the Raiders, Warriors can't make the 8 but as you say they can cause an upset with teams that are trying to build consistency heading into the finals.
My wild, wild , wild card could be the Broncos against the Eels, Broncos are due for a win and you just never know.

Afternoon All
Well I shied away from tipping the Broncos but I have taken one outside chance for the weekend.
The leader in the tipping comp is two ahead of me and if I am any chance to bridge that gap I need to take something outside the box, will have to wait and see.
I've taken the Dragons to beat the Knights, the pressure is on the Knights and I can smell an upset with the Dragons having the better of the Knights over recent times.
Anyway, enjoy Thursday night footy

Hey everyone, my tips for this week are:
Rabbitohs by 10 – Bulldogs can still get off the bottom of the table, but facing the likes of the Bunnies and the Panthers next week makes that task very difficult. Last time these two met, the Bulldogs gave the Rabbitohs a contest but the Rabbitohs were comfortable winners in the end. Rabbitohs are coming into this one with some great form and expect them to get the win again. I wouldn’t be very surprised though if the Bulldogs can make a contest out of this but the Rabbits will be too good here. Unfortunately for the Dogs, they just don’t have the line-up to finish off games and hence why they have only won two all season thus far. The Rabbitohs on the other hand, have the playmakers that can control a game, plenty of talent in the backs that can score you plenty of tries and a pretty strong forward pack along with a productive bench. Rabbitohs to get the win here to possibly give this top 4 a shake… possibly I say but I doubt it very much.
Panthers by 26 – No doubt on who is winning this one. Has to be the Panthers right? Panthers have just been absolutely amazing and they just continue to impress. Their winning streak is now at 13. Who can stop them? We’ll see come finals time. They should win their next two easily. And that includes this game right here. Panthers should smash the Cowboys here. Cowboys have been disappointing and have nothing to play for but pride and compared to other clubs, they just haven’t showed enough pride. Although they were quite impressive in the second half against the Storm, they were disappointing in that game and if they bring that into here, they will be absolutely hammered. Panthers have a couple players resting but they do still have a great looking side on paper. A fairly strong forward pack now with some of the players missing, a really talented backline, and a great half pairing in Luai and Cleary. Panthers for sure here to secure their minor premiership, the Cowboys have just been so disappointing this season with plenty of injuries and inconsistencies in their spine and line-up in general.
Eels by 16 – Eels to get a comfortable win here. Broncos are the other Qld team who has been very disappointing this season. Being the strongest Qld team for a while now, the spotlight has been on them up North in the process. They have just been shocking and like I’ve said before, are the true wooden spooners. Their attack was basically non-existent last week against the Titans. Their defence wasn’t horrible but it doesn’t help when your attack is horrible. The Eels on the other hand, are coming off a big loss to the Panthers though they were competitive. They should get the Broncos here even though they have been struggling and get them well. Eels to remain in the top 4 with that win. Moses needs to get back into form and Gutho has been amazing even though the Eels have been struggling. Broncos have made plenty of changes once again and have yet another new Five-Eigth in Tyson Gamble. The inexperienced Broncos to get yet another loss.
Titans by 2 – Going with the upset here. Titans have been great and I can see them getting win number 4 in a row here. Manly got back into the winners circle last week against the Bulldogs. They done well considering they were 10 points down in the first half and never looked like being in the game. But lucky for them they scored three quick tries to get the half time lead and they had a good second half too and get home comfortably in the end. The Titans on the other hand, are coming off a good win over the Broncos. Both these sides have nothing to play for really but whoever has the more pride will get over the line in the end and I think that’ll be the Titans. Justin Holbrook has been great for the Titans and it really shows. They can double their winning tally from last season with one more game to go this week. This one will get tight I reckon but it’ll be the Titans who will come out on top. Titans have to contain that Manly forward pack though; they do have some talent in the forwards themselves though. So we’ll see how they’ll go. This could even be a high-scoring game considering the talents in the backline of both sides. We’ll find out.
Storm by 18 – Storm to win comfortably here. The Tigers’ season is 100% over now and they have no chance of making the finals yet again. It’s a real shame for the Tigers it really is. They are so far in their usual 9th position and will they end up there time will tell. This week will put a sting on that depending on other results. Storm should definitely outclass the Tigers here playing at home again where they have been so good at this season you would expect them to win here. They need one more win to secure that top 2 finish in which should give them added motivation but the Storm are usually motivated anyways. The Storm have too much class around the board. Benji is key for the Tigers and has been great as his Tiger days continue to decrease week by week. It’s such a shame really after all that Benji has done for the club. But it is what it is unfortunately. Cameron Smith’s days may be slowly but surely going too but we’ll see, wouldn’t be very surprised if he decides to play on for one more year. Storm to secure their top 2 spot with a comfortable win here over the Tigers.
Roosters by 20 – Roosters to smash the Sharks here. Roosters have been in amazing form and that should continue here with a big win over the Sharks. The Sharks haven’t exactly been flash but they found a way to secure their finals spot with a win over the Warriors. Now this week is a huge test for them coming up against the high-flying classy Chooks. I think they won’t lift for the test and will get smashed. Roosters just continue to crow along and string together win after win after win after win… this week won’t be much different. They’ll be at home once again where they play so well at. They will be missing Cordner again but the Roosters’ depth is truly amazing and speaks volumes to their success over the last couple of seasons. Like I have said, the threepeat is not out of the question and the Roosters will continue to prove why. Sharks do have talent but it’s just no match for the roster that the Roosters possess. Roosters way too good here.
Raiders by 30 – The Warriors’ season is now over. Unfortunately for everyone’s second favourite team, they finally have their season done and dusted to the Sharks. What a shame for the Warriors because what they have done for the NRL has been nothing short of amazing. Like they had lost their coach, lost loads of players and had to gain players from other clubs to be able to push forward and compete but full credit also goes to those who’ve stayed. RTS has been amazing and has been a huge influence and Todd Payten has done a phenomenal job filling in the void. Now that their season is over and they have lost their loan players, I don’t think they will have the motivation and heart that they have been showing over the last 6-7 weeks. They may still show some heart and fight but coming up against the Raiders, I feel that the Raiders will put a score on the Warriors because they have it all to play for themselves. They have the top 4 up for grabs and if the Eels continue to lose and the Raiders continue to win, they will see yet another top 4 finish. That will be great stuff from the Raiders as they haven’t done such a thing in a long time. The Raiders’ attack has also lifted as well in recent weeks and plus, they are playing at home in front of their faithful. The Raiders have plenty of reason to be much more motivation than the Warriors and should win it here and win well. The Raiders will show just why they are the bad and mean Green machine. Papalii has been great, the halves have been great, the backline has been really good the Raiders just have at all something that the Warriors are lacking in their line-up and for good reason.
And finally… Knights by 12 – I want us Dragons to win. I really do. We do have a great record against the Knights and we usually get the win over them. But the last time these two met, the Knights demolished the Dragons. We have nothing to play for and the Knights have it all to play for, they would dearly love a top 6 finish to play a home final and if they win here, they continue their chances for a possible top 6 finish. The Knights have been playing well at home as well and are back at home this week. They will be welcoming back the rested players as well so expect them to want to play well after their rests and they will be freshened up. Oh the Dragons, we have so much promise in our line-up yet we find a way to disappoint. We honestly weren’t that bad in the first half against the Raiders and were in the contest but damn we had a horrendous second half, never looked like winning after that shocker we had in the second half. Gotta say though, Cody Ramsay is a true up and coming talent, two tries on debut and could’ve got a third had Lomax not been offside. Knights will want it more considering they are playing for a home final. I really hope us Dragons show some pride and get the win but the Knights will want it more and I can see them being more motivated than the Saints, the Dragons haven’t shown enough motivation unfortunately and have lost it. For what it is worth, c’mon Saints! Show them what you got!
Awesome. Good luck with everyone’s teams for this week and with everyone’s tips for this week. Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tom Turbo should not have returned, even if to try and get a look in for NSW in SoO. He hasn't been playing, he isn't in form and I would not pick him.

I think your Manly brought Tommy Turbo back a week too early. Awful to see he has injured his shoulder but on #9 footy show Fittler has said he is the first selected for NSW. He has the final series to get fit and I'm sure he will. God knows who will be playing for QLD, doubt there will be many Broncos in the team.
