The 2022 NRL tipping competition

Greetings football fans. For those of you that disappeared for the off-season...welcome back.

Confirmed Tipsters for 2022

Those of you that participated throughout season 2021 are welcome to return. You don't have to let me know you wish to play again this year, but if you want to say hello, ask a question or say anything else feel free to say so in the comments section. If your tipster name appears in the table to the right (2021 tipping competition final results) then you are already registered for season 2022.

Welcome back everyone. Not long to go now.

Newcomers

Note: entry to the 2022 NRL tipping competition is now closed. Apologies to any latecomers. Those listed below are our new participants this season.

Newcomers are generally welcome on a first in, first served basis. If you've been waiting since last season, now is the time to let me know you're keen to be involved this year.

You will need to create an account (which is free) on the site if you don't already have one and I will update your account to tipster status (which is also free). Once I have confirmed your details and added you as a new tipster your name will be listed on this page as a newcomer. Don't be shy...most of us don't bite and it's just a bit of fun:

Questions

My loyal and obedient Little Helper has put together a page which is a handy guide to how most of this works (including creating an account, how to tip each round once you've been registered, life hacks and some dinner suggestions for busy working parents in a hurry. You can check it all out here.

Otherwise, if anyone has any questions about the competition or anything else, feel free to ask in the comments section below.

The season kicks off on Thursday 10th March with the defending premiers (Panthers) taking on the Sea Eagles out at Penrith. A nice way to start the season.

Prizes

There will be prizes for our top three tipsters and, if there's anything left in my Merchandise Mystery Box, a few random prizes throughout the season, but I'll provide more details on the prizes in the weeks ahead.

The top three also get their name etched on the Honour Board and the recognition you deserve.

Seriously...why do you keep doing this every season?

Fair question. My Little Helper and I did a rough count and we think this is our 11th season. That's a long time, we're getting old, and all the kids are on TikTok instead of watching rugby league like we did when we were young. Anyhoo...we're still having fun so we'll keep hacking away at this until The Thinker wins his own tipping comp again (it's been years...someone needs to give themself a team talk).

Notably, Thinkers Little Helper has submitted a request to HR to take his Long Service Leave. Request denied...I might give him an Adelaide Rams watch for his ten year anniversary instead :-)

All the best

Yes David it is you I communicated with on one/two occasions - some site. Carling is the giveaway.
I remembered the ale well and also the mere fact, I knew a fellow here in our area, who once had a pub and surname was the same as yours.
Do you live in QLD area somewhere?

Gr8 on those teams mate. You have faves like me and in Italian League I have Juve, French - PSG, Spanish - Real Madrid. Rugby it is Waratahs. NFL & SPL - same as you. A-League I am a Smurfs man (& Bx boy R. Grant from here plays with them) thus SoO - NSW (Two Blues). Of course in NRL - The Mighty Brookie Boys.

Never mind Butcher. We get on well. He has some tough times coming from hospitality industry dealing with all sorts. Sometimes he forgets that several good Easts players, played with Manly and vice versa. Bozo and Crusher two to boot. Then a couple of Kiwi's as well.

@Butcher - we might just catch up one day. Have a good NRL 2022 season.

Cheers and keep well
Big Pete

Hey The Thinker... did I miss the last boat to join the 2022 tipping comp?Would be great if you could scrape me in. Cheers

Hey Big Pete,
I do live in Qld, Strathpine and I also go for Melbourne City in A-League. All good with Butcher like a bit of banter is all good. Love my Mighty Sea Eagles.
Cheers
David

Gr8 to know D C - we're got a couple of pre-season injuries riding on us at present. Also a few young ones who'll no doubt impress and make it hard for some older ones to get renewed extended contracts. Marty Kapow is one of them. Just a pity salary cap couldn't be reviewed for older players wanting to stay on with their clubs. It doesn't seem to gel with NRL hierarchy that the older players are the guiding light for young players in showing them the way. Not all can retire and get coaching roles at their fave club/s.

Cheers Champ and keep well. I may be offsite tomorrow as I have organising to do with a sporting event coming up.

Looking forward to the 3S comp this season 'a'.
Hopefully, I'll do much better than previous years.
If I'm eliminated early,,, the C-19 vaccine made me do it ;)

Speaking of that Butcher, in that 56 - 0 thrashing that the Broncos copped, our defense was sweating on where Milford was, he got belted several times, but we let Croft and that former captain a bit of lee way. So i agree with you that a good player (Renyolds) needs a strong foil, but sometime that single threat can focus the defense in the wrong position and an average foil/ball player (rest of the Broncos team) to take advantage of the wrong focus.

🔊 @ Mr Ashford

Yeah, haven’t been on here for quite a while my friend. Work situation sorted for the time being but who knows what’s around the corner eh? The good thing about this whole C19 debacle is that it’s taught me some valuable life lessons.

It’s taught me who my real mates are (the ones who walk in when everyone else is walking out as they say). It’s taught me about the need to slow down and live life differently. It’s taught me to look at the crap I’m eating and drinking. It’s taught me how to change my mindset and how to become a real man. It’s shown me that I need more quality rest and that I need to move more (exercise). And finally it’s taught me that whatever the government and the media tells me is not necessarily true or in my best interests. So in a funny sort of way COVID* has been a good thing. Well, for my inner wellbeing at least 😉.

Thanks for the concern my friend, it’s much appreciated. Oh, and another thing … you’ll be glad to hear (as well as other family here) that this year I’m gonna try and “trim down” the length of my weekly comments. Yeah, I know I’ve said that before (and failed miserably) but determined to give it a real shake this year. It’s just so time consuming and as I mentioned above, I have to find more time for “rest” and that includes not only the physical but also the mental as well.

I was re-evaluating where I was at lately with all the C19 stuff going on in my life and seriously contemplated sitting this year out but after reading the comments in the hangout page and here as well, my juices got fired up again and now I’m as keen as mustard 🤓. Lucky my mate mentioned the footy season was just about to start, otherwise I might’ve forgotten 😱.

OK, I’ll get out of your hair now as I need to go off and do me some reading over on NRL [dot] com. One thing I do know is that my Beautiful Boys from Bondi (BBB) have had some pretty dismal (average) trial games but as everyone knows, it’s just an opportunity to chuck in the young (and new) fellas to see how they go. I’ll know more when we play the Knights in Round 1 and the big names come back in 💪.

OK kids, good luck with your tipping this year and welcome to all you “new” tippers. Welcome to the family y’all. See you soon for Round 1 next week. Peace! 🐔🐔🐔

P.S. Thanks to the Thinker and his Little Helper for keeping us entertained and engaged for yet another year. Legends! 💪

Hi Newbie,
So good to see you back again!
Have missed your comments over the last few months, and often wondered how you were faring with all the COVID restrictions being placed on people, and extended in WA.

As to the length of you previews of each round - it's always a good read.

Keep well, and we will hear from you again this week with your thoughts on the first round.

Cheers,
Mary

Hi Newbie!!!!
So good to hear from you and now you're back tipping and giving game info. Mate I couldn't be happier to see your comments. Have you noticed the number of new recruit's this year. We are gonna have to sharpen our pencils to get a prize.

BigPeteBx's picture

Gr8 to hear from you Newbie. You've had a lot of things on in WA and more so with limitations that have been placed on all there.
How do you actually feel about McGowan over there?

Just keep your sanity mate and let nothing get in its way. When you have contentious issues, just juggle the easy one's and get them out of the way. I have to also get more movement and watch how its done. Walking with a torn ankle ligament isn't all that comfortable, but I wear a brace on long "treks". Working in the yard has its moments, but I get the grass cut and pruning's. I chunk them in stages.

Will certainly be an interesting NRL Comp this year and also here at Thinkers with a number of new starters. Has to be done as Thinkers comp had some players last season, that never saw it out. Have a look as the final standings will speak for itself.

We copped a lot of rain here overnight. Had the Long Track (m/cycles) meet on here yesterday/last night. But I'd say the rain might have put an early end to it - not sure. Its the first time since 2017 that the event has been held here. They are a good bunch of people that run it and always has others events on for the "littlies" and during the year they do a couple of charity runs as well. So their sport is close to heart.

Take care Newbie - keep well, may God be with You and give the computer screens a rest or your eyes will start telling you otherwise.
Big Pete in Bx Country.

Heres hoping some of the people on last are shit tipsters it is not fair that Butcher gets a walk up start for the wooden spoon.
He is however right about the Broncos NRLW side they look very good early on.
Go Broncos.

Hello fellow tipsters, old and new, and thanks for the automatic rejoin Mr Thinker.
Hope you all have enjoyed the off-season and are primed for season 2022 . Quite a few surprise results already in the lead up matches and new look teams everywhere ... might take a while to get used to !... and that's just for us tipsters, let alone the players.
Good luck everyone - see you on the "battlefield"!
