South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Wests Tigers – Thursday night – ANZ Stadium
If the Tigers did win by a margin the Rabbits could potentially fall out of the top four. It's unlikely, but the Rabbits need to find some winning form, because four successive losses isn't the form you want to be in before a finals campaign. The Tigers beat the Rabbits not so long ago, but their last two games have been a loss to the Dragons and a narrow win over the Sea Eagles. Bleugh! It's time for the Rabbits to make a statement.
Verdict – Rabbitohs by 14
Result – Rabbitohs 51 defeated Tigers 10
New Zealand Warriors vs Canberra Raiders – Friday night – Mt Smart Stadium
Ricky Stuart has lasted in the Canberra gig longer than our last four ex-Prime Ministers, and if he's still in the gig next season I expect he'll outlast a fifth. The number nines are proving the difference for these teams in season 2018. Issac Luke has found his mojo across the ditch and the Warriors are a much better team as a result, and the Raiders must wonder what might have been if Josh Hodgson had been available all season. In the last fortnight they've knocked off the Roosters and the Rabbitohs, they're the only team outside the top eight with a positive points differential and they've scored more points than any other side. What may have been. The Raiders are in 10th and whatever happens this weekend 10th is where they will stay. If two of the Panthers, Dragons or Broncos lose this weekend the Warriors can pick up a home final with a win. That's not as unlikely as it sounds. Ricky for PM? He'd make Question Time interesting.
Verdict – Warriors by 10
Result – Warriors 20 defeated Raiders 16
Melbourne Storm vs Penrith Panthers – Friday night – AAMI Park
If the Panthers somehow won this game these two could be playing each other again in the first week of the finals. That's a pretty crappy reward for the black cats. They may prefer to hang on to their tenous grip on a home final in week one, providing they don't slip to 7th or 8th. The Storm could potentially lose the minor premiership, but I could potentially still wear the baggy green for Australia. It's not going to happen Thinker...just let it go mate. The Panthers have played at AAMI Park on seven occasions...and never won. History is against them, and they're not in the sort of form that would have you believing they could defy history on Friday night. The Minor Premiership looks settled...another trophy for the pile.
Verdict – Storm by 7
Result – Panthers 22 defeated Storm 16
Newcastle Knights vs St George Illawarra Dragons – Saturday afternoon – McDonald Jones Stadium
The Dragons are spending plenty of coin on Ben Hunt, and they may have to open the purse strings again and find the young half a good therapist. It looks like all the pressure and criticism is starting to get to him. Newcastle isn't the sort of crowd you want to playing in front of when you're struggling with form, particularly at an Old Boys game. Ponga is hinting he'll put the boots on for this one but he's getting around in a moon boot so it seems unlikely. In any case this is a game the Knights usually lift for, and the Dragons were seriously crap last weekend.
Verdict – Knights by 4
Result – Dragons 24 defeated Knights 14
Gold Coast Titans vs North Queensland Cowboys – Saturday night – Cbus Super Stadium
You can't get a ticket to this game, and I'm not sure if the Titans have ever put the 'Sold Out' signs up before. While it would make more sense for Thurston to play his last game at home, I'm pleased to see he'll be calling time in front of a packed house. If the Cowboys can repeat their performance from last weekend they'll win again. Scott, McLean and Taumalolo chalked up more than 600 metres of go forward against the Eels and again, a repeat of that and the Cowboys win again. Let the Thurston Festival continue.
Verdict – Cowboys by 1
Result – Cowboys 30 defeated Titans 26
Parramatta Eels vs Sydney Roosters – Saturday night – ANZ Stadium
The Roosters appeared to be warming up when it mattered, but successive losses to the Raiders and the Broncos may have them second-guessing themselves. Dylan Napa gets to cool his destructive head for three weeks, and the Chooks will need some of their littler big men to step up and take on a little more responsibility while their biggest big man bides his time. Waerea-Hargreaves should be back this weekend, which helps. The Eels probably need to accept the wooden spoon is theirs this season – we've had a few teams disappoint us this year and the Eels are definitely one of those. What's the story Norman Corey? You need a little time to wake up wake up. Well?
Verdict – Roosters by 10
Result – Roosters 44 defeated Eels 10
Canterbury Bulldogs vs Cronulla Sharks – Sunday afternoon – ANZ Stadium
This is probably the game of the round, because these two sides are arguably in the best form in the NRL. The Bulldogs have won four of their last five, and two of those wins were against teams in form (Warriors and Broncos), while the Sharks have won three in a row including a win over the (likely) minor premiers in Melbourne. The Sharks have a top four berth to protect and have a bunch of teams nipping at their heels, so I'm leaping to the conclusion that's motivation enough to perform. Watch for Aaron Woods off the bench...could be fireworks.
Verdict – Sharks by 4
Result – Sharks 30 defeated Bulldogs 18
Brisbane Broncos vs Manly Sea Eagles – Sunday afternoon – Suncorp Stadium
Two teams have beaten the Roosters and the Rabbitohs in the last fortnight, and this is the other one. Wayne Bennett clearly knows how to put on a good barbecue because the Broncos looked down and out three weeks ago. If they were in the top four they'd be premiership favourites on current form. By the time they take to the field on Sunday the Broncos will know if a home final in week one is a possibility. Given the teams in front of them (Panthers and Dragons) appear to be free-falling it's looking likely. Meanwhile Manly are leaking points like a team with some very serious issues. Perhaps their number one club member, Tony Abbott, is in there wrecking that joint too.
Verdict – Broncos by 20
Result – Broncos 48 defeated Sea Eagles 16

Hi Mark,
The following was on the Daily Telegraph site today
"SALARY CAP CRISIS BITES SHARKS ON EVE OF THE FINALS
The Cronulla Sharks’ premiership campaign has been rocked by revelations the NRL’s integrity unit is investigating the club for potential salary cap breaches on the eve of the finals."
The following article is on the NRL website
https://www.nrl.com/news/2018/08/28/cronulla-sharks-confident-they-are-s...

Thanks Mary
Looks like another 'third party payment" gone wrong. No doubt the Sharks and the NRL will sort it out. Can't understand Thinkers comment re the Tigers. Is there more to this than we know? No doubt the Boss will fill us in if there is.
I for one hate 3rd party payments over and above a players salary.
Players getting speed boats, luxury apartments, bags of cash etc.
So unfair for the poorer clubs but how do you police it.
3rd party deals are apparently legal providing they are not arranged by the players club. So it comes down to players managers, most of which are a sorry lot.

Hello everyone, my tips for this week are:
Rabbitohs by 4 - Rabbitohs to get a tight win here to give themselves some momentum leading into the finals.
Warriors by 10 - Warriors have looked good in the last month, even in their narrow loss to the Dogs, they did well to stay in that game, same has to be said for the Raiders, beating two top 4 sides in successive weeks is some sort of achievement for the Raiders and is great momentum to bring into this game and in 2019, but my question is, where was that form for the Raiders all season? Anyways, my tip is the Warriors to get the win at home in what could be their final home game of the season.
Storm by 22 - History is against the Panthers in this one, and so is their formline. Based on those two alone, I can't see the Panthers good enough to beat the Storm who should secure yet another minor premiership here.
Dragons by 1 - Geez that was hard to watch last week. Final home game of the regular season, playing for Nightingale and Thommo along with playing for a possible top 4 spot yet we crumble 38-0, absolutely pathetic, the injuries didn't help our cause either. But what these injuries did do is allow some of our young players to step in, Lomax in the centres and Field on the bench, two exciting young prospects. I sure do hope that they bring some much-needed spark and energy into the Dragons side this weekend and spoil old boys day for the Knights with a win here. I reckon we can do it... just.
Titans by 2 - I reckon that this is an underrated game for this round and could be game of the round. Both sides haven't had good seasons at all and would be hoping to finish off the season with a win. The Cowboys want to do it yet again for JT to send him out on a high and the Titans want to win it for their fans in their final home game. Going to be an interesting game, and I'm going with the Titans for the upset here in what should be a cracking game of footy.
Roosters by 16 - Eels were really poor last week, it's a shame because they did so well just to get out of the dreaded last spot momentarily then put in two disappointing performances in a row, particularly last week against the Cowboys in what was the battle of the two teams coming equal last. I expect the Roosters to come out firing especially after a poor last two weeks, and they could potentially play for the minor premiership which could add some motivation for the Roosters as well if it gets to that point. Either way, I expect the Roosters to bring some momentum their way coming into the finals with a big win over the Eels here.
Sharks by 6 - This was a toss of the coin for me. I was so tempted to tip the Bulldogs, especially after the towelling that they gave us last weekend. Though the Sharks are in magnificent form as well, what won't help them is the supposed salary cap dramas. If that distracts them, then I can see a Bulldogs win, but, I'm going the Sharks to secure their top 4 spot here (that's if they don't lose their points).
And finally... the Broncos by 18 - Here we go... the final round of the regular season. I can't believe that it has come this far so quick. Broncos should get the win in what could possibly be their final home game of the season. And a big win in this one is what I expect. All hail the great sir Wayne, he sure did find a way to get the Broncos to fire at the back end thanks to the bbq and some great coaching.
Awesome. Good luck with everyone's teams for this week and with everyone's tips for this week. Bring on the final round of the regular season. Cheers!!!!!!!!

Nothing I know Mark
I'm referring to any potential penalty for the Sharks. If it involves deducting points the Tigers might find themselves in the top eight all of a sudden.
It's pretty unlikely though.

Sa-wat-dee krup,
OK, here we go. One week left and then finals! Really, really hope my BBB can pick up a bit from what they’ve been doing lately. C’mon Trent, smack ‘em on the back of their heads just like Agent Gibbs used to do to DiNozzo. Mark Ashford is right, I am glad there’s another Roosters fan in Tuisova. Mes don’t feel so lonely no more (ha-ha). Anyhoo, let’s get into it eh?
Rabbitohs vs Tigers 60-40 @ ANZ
OK, so the Rabbitohs have now lost 3 in a row. Have they lost the plot? 12 points up and then they lose the game. The Tigers had a win and have won 4 of the last 5 against the Bunnies. Their big guns all had a decent game last week and could cause some problems. While the Bunnies are pretty short(ish) favourites with the bookies, I’m gonna go out on a limb (or short plank) and tip the Tigers.
Warriors vs Raiders 60-40 @ Mt Smart
Seems the Warriors have found a way to win at home finally. Or is it simply a case of the class of opponent? They were relentless last week. All good signs leading to finals footy. Call the Raiders “butter” ‘cos they’re on a roll. Another great effort from the Green Machine in knocking off a top 4 side. This week on the road has me thinking however. 3 from 11 is not giving me enough reason to tip them here. Warriors for me Peow! Peow!
Storm vs Panthers 80-20 @ AAMI
Yeah the Storm won last week but only just. For the Panthers to win they’ll need to shut the Storm down, something I just can’t see happening. While I’ve rated the Stormers an 80-20 chance, they’re not looking all that invincible lately. The Titans nearly upset their apple cart last week but with just a teeny tiny bit of apprehension, I’ll stick with the Storm. Another Minor Premiership as well. Damn!
Knights vs Dragons 60-40 @ McDonald Jones
The Knights were pretty ordinary last week but managed to score 12 points more than the Dragons did. Ouch! Mind you, they had 35 missed tackles (Dragons 27) and 12 penalties (Dragons 4) so read into that what you will. Based on what I saw last week, the Dragons are a basket case at the moment. Widdop needs to get back, sooner rather than later, as Ben Hunt is “lost at sea”. But hey, he’s too good a player to flounder for too much longer you would think. If the Dragons are gonna get back on track then this week is their chance. But you know what? I’m feeling just a tad adventurous so I’m going the upset and tipping the Knights. Makes no sense really but what the heck.
Titans vs Cowboys 60-40 @ Cbus
The Titans eh? So close and yet so far. Maybe they should’ve won that one but if you take your foot off the pedal (and especially against the Storm) you’ll more than likely pay the price. And pay they did. Gee, weren’t those Cowboys good last week. See, fairytales do come true sometimes (and wasn’t I completely wrong too). Can they lift again for JT’s last game? After watching how they played last week I’m not ruling out that possibility. While my gut feeling says that the Cowboys should win this somewhat easily for a great finish to JT’s career, I’m actually on the Titans. Another crazy tip I know.
Eels vs Roosters 35-65 @ ANZ
Pretty disappointing effort from the Eels last week. Completely outplayed by the Cowboys. The same can be said (unfortunately) about my beloved Roosters. Started off OK but then fell in a heap due to the pressure from the Ponies. We score first and then Brisbane go Bang! Bang! Bang! All over, red rover. So glad I was half drunk at the time. Made the pain a bit easier to bear (ha-ha). As bad as my BBB were, I feel the “bounce back” thing will be happenin’ here. Roosters for me (obviously). Begurk! Begurk!
Bulldogs vs Sharks 40-60 @ ANZ
The Doggies were surprisingly good last week against the Dragons. Couldn’t believe they were getting it done that easy. Really liking the way Wally’s nephew is coming along. Good footy brain on those shoulders for sure. I’m giving them a pretty decent chance in this one but considering how well the Sharks are travelling at the minute, it’ll be tough for the Doggies to get up here. OK, the Sharks are going for 4 in a row here and could possibly finish second if my BBB lose (which won’t happen). Doggies might give them a run for their money but the Sharks should be able to do enough to get in here. Sharks for me.
Broncos vs Manly 80-20 @ Suncorp
Those Ponies sure were so very good last week. 47 missed tackles (compared to the Roosters 28) and they still won. Who does that? So, Manly. They score a try after 3 mins and then let the Tigers score 4 before they click into gear and score another 2 themselves. And they only lose by 2 points. Not quite sure what to make of that. Nah, considering what I saw last week, I have no choice but to tip the Broncos here.
OK kids, good luck with your tipping and may your team win by 40 points!
It’s “Song of the Week” time again…
Just wanna post this one ‘cos I think everyone needs to witness how a tortured soul transformed her blues and pain into pure artistry. For those who haven’t seen her before (or not much), give this one some time. You won’t (or shouldn’t) be disappointed. I absolutely love this woman and miss her so bad. Rabbitohs by 10 I think the Rabbitohs will bounce back against Tigers here
Warriors by 6. Warriors will get the job done here
Storm by 4 I think the Storm will get a narrow win against the Panthers here
Knights by 2 I’m tipping an upset here
Cowboys by 6 I think the Cowboys will beat the Titans in JTs final game here
Roosters by 8 I tipping Roosters to bounce back here
Sharks by 4 I think the Sharks will beat the Bulldogs here
Broncos by 12 I think the Broncos will beat. Manly easily here

Hi Mary S
The telling part of Todd's statement is "on the information available to us" leaving him open to say "we weren't aware at the time" surely the fans are entitled to honesty and openness.
If 2018 is clear then ok but please be sure and lets get on with round 25 and the finals don't tell us next year the Sharks cheated and maybe the Tigers should have got a crack at the finals.
The NRL is a huge money machine with plenty of high paid staff who should get this right.

@ “a”
Just watched Aretha asking for some “respect”. Yeah, she was a diva alright. One of the greats who definitely did good with her life. Glad she’s made you (and millions of others) very happy. Again, thanks for the share brother…
@ Mr Ashford
Yeah, as I’ve just mentioned to our friend “a”, Aretha was a diva for sure but in music, as in life itself, taste is a subjective thing. Everyone has their preferences and so on but in my heart and soul, Janis was an absolute goddess. As far as I’m concerned, she was a joy and a revelation to a young 10yo boy who had just come across her music. She was and still is to this day, the best I’ve ever seen or heard and I doubt very much if any will come even close to her. Again, this is not fact, it’s just my opinion. Many a time she’s given me hope and soothed my soul and made me cry. But hey, each to their own and I will always encourage people to like what they like and to be proud to say so. Music in all styles is here for everyone to enjoy. Well, except maybe for Jazz (ha-ha).
On a lighter note, I just couldn’t leave without letting you know that one of the funniest things I’ve heard in a long, long time was when you mentioned to Baggy about the “kevlar underpants”. Man that was funny! Absolute classic my friend. I actually remember way back in the day watching that infamous game on telly. Just remember saying to myself … “Whaa? Did he just do what I thought he did?” So when you mentioned the “kevlar underpants” it just broke me up. Awesome! Thanks bro’…

Should be a good game TigerGirl. Rabbitohs have been a bit off the last month and Tigers have a good record against them in recent years. I think if Mbye and Farrah had been playing for the Tigers since Round 1 then they would have been pushing for a spot in the Top 4 this year considering they are only 3 wins off the mark. Will be better for the run next year.

Baggy I'm sure you must have our Broncos confused with the Denver club. The Brisbane Broncos are as squeeky clean as that yellow duck your kids play with in the bath at night. Just kidding of course.
If over cap punishment is to be looked at then consider Storm.
Stripped of 2 premierships and fined a million $$$
They certainly deserved punishment but there's been nothing like that since.
Wonder if Inglis still has that speedboat...

I hope so. It did come at a brutal price, same as the Bulldogs, that was a pretty rough end of the stick to take. But as we all know it's just the flavour of the week club that gets kicked in the nads each year. Next year it might be South's turn to cop it. No rhyme or reason. Everyone bends and has their own interpretation of the rules and it won't change.

They have a very professional board of directors, and they know how to do things properly.

Evenin Newbie - JJ had that voice, but I idolised Whitney. She was niece/god-daughter to Aunty Rey (Aretha Franklin), not that you needed telling that. Great songs, great music and extra great voices. Seems like those gospel singers have, what it takes in the music kingdom.
Many that attended, Whitney's last ever concerts in Aust, would have walked away in shame. She was loaded, forgot words and lost the rhythm. I wasn't there, but enough was read about it all.

Word also is, that Sonny Bill, when finished in rah rah, has a handshake agreement to come to Chooks. I guess Chooks will have to wait to farm Cooper off first, or they'll explode like a cannon.
Nick Politis has a very BIG say and at City Ford, sells cars like no tomorrows. Not that he's on the floor doing the deals, he'd be more like Kerry P, swinging faves behind doors. But that is the world of commercial, big bucks involvement.

Mark - you obviously know by now, as it was Tuesday you posted the question. Andrew McCullough is out for Bronco's as released by NRL Team Sheets they posted early.

Broncs will probably rip through us, but maybe Manly might just keep the score to a minimum.

Thinker, the fact you're a roosters supporter, I hope, doesn't influence your reply. As a long time follower of the NRL I've never heard anything about a Roosters investigation. I accept your argument about the Roosters management but their roster would indicate otherwise.
With SBW coming back, who will have to go?
Or does Nick just dictate terms to the NRL.
