Some really interesting games this weekend folks. I'm pretty keen on Tonga to beat Fiji if I can find a price and I'm giving the Kiwis some hope of pulling off a win. I know they usually struggle in these one-off games but it's a hunch.

a's picture

I can't post a comment in my comp either

Johnny Awesome's picture

Hi Mr Thinker, I think that Country might have to beat City in this final game between the two. I think the Mudgee location will be enough. Australia should beat the Kiwis. By the way Mr Thinker have you have ever down Mudgee/Gulgong way... great country and top wines. Cheers from Mr Awesome.

Johnny awsome your mate I'm the same with my who must abey only I'm the more dominate player,I'm a good cook but that comes from my mum.

Padbul yeah cliffy was a legend a he had the best hands I've ever seen, his combination with the beaver was leathel just magic one of the greatest 5/8 in the history of the game met him heaps, and a very funny guy,top bloke.

Great games this weekend the rep round folks, the test should be a cracker!!!!!!!!!!!

Got to get ready and flap my wings and fly cheers everyone!!!!!!

Johnny Awesome's picture

Yes Mr Fortress ol Pal, the trick is to keep them smiling indefinitely. Hope you are riight and she is smiling and not really grimacing, hey. I'm lucky, She who must be obeyed also loves the footy as well. The problem is, every thing has to be perfect for her to go out to a Raiders game. Just the right temp, not too much Sun, maybe a slight breeze, no wind, chair cushions ( I bought the best), best seats in the inner bowl ( arm and a leg to get em) fresh sandwiches made by me at home, slightly chilled water and lots of attention. Getting all that right Mr Fortress and you get to spend 30 years with your partner and then get ready for another 30. Oh by the way, if you think the Qld crowd give NSW the what for, you haven't seen my missus in action at a game when the opposition has done something dirty. All the best mate. cheers from Mr Awesome

pabdul's picture

i like country ....too many players playing out of position for city. ross aint a centre cartwright aint a 5/8 and gutherson wasted on the wing.
also got a sneeking suspicion that kiwi will close as well.

Johnny Awesome's picture

Hi Mr pabdul, I think the country team looks stronger and better balanced. Here's hoping that country come away with a win. Cheers from Mr Awesome.

Hi all,
Not too convinced about Kidwell as New Zealand coach. No first grade coaching experience there. In saying that, who else could would be available to coach New Zealand anyway? They are pretty light on. Mr Thinker, don't know too many ex NZ players but I guess Stacey Jones would come into the equation one day. I think hes coaching reserves. Another ex player who comes to mind is Dean Bell. Not sure what he's doing but somewhere along the line, he did some coaching in England me thinks. Any thoughts?
Cheers from Mr Awesome

Baggy_Gee's picture

We were just talking about how natural Clint is at fullback. He did what we have been lacking for a long while someone who can inject himself and take advantage of the play as it unfolds. Not someone who can only play structure.

Fortress's picture

Hey johnny awesome yeah buddy she is smiling don't worry bout that just have to have a lot of variety she said for my 23rd birthday this year she's going to buy me Jamie Olivers cook book I said why my mum is the best cook in the world don't need a book I've learnt from the best mate.

Anyways johnny awesome hope u keep your Mrs happy sometimes u have to not be too easy a bit of a captains role is also good you know what I mean for example yes sir got the drift Mr awsome
All matches should be close hope for big crowds to give it a great atmosphere.!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers from the fortress !!!!!!!

BigPeteBx's picture

Howdy Fortress.

You seem to be ageing backwards mate.

GaryChesterUK's picture

I was leaning towards Australia -8 on the handicap for my bet this week, Thinker may have put me off!

Any reason the Aussies won't win comfortably like last time?

The Thinker's picture

Johnny Awesome

The Kiwis want, if you can believe the rumours, Paul Green.

Kidwell is passionate about the sport and his country. He's the sort of guy you would want in the sheds. A bit of help wouldn't hurt though.

GaryChesterUK

Don't let me put you off. In recent times the Kangaroos have dominated in the one-off Test matches. This is a hunch from me. The Kiwi spine is the Warriors spine, so I'm hoping they will gel. Thurston back from injury in Canberra at night. A doubt on Boyd (Darius) in Canberra at night. And I don't say the following lightly – I think their forward pack is better than ours (Bromwich, Blair, Mannering, Proctor, Taumalolo...Taupau and Packer off the bench).

And I've liked what I've seen from the Warriors in the last two weeks. They competed with the Storm in Melbourne in a really high quality game and they defended like no tomorrow to beat the Chooks.

And what if Dugan and Ferguson decide to relive old times and spend a night on a roof drinking Breezers?

Johnny Awesome's picture

I agree Mr Thinker regarding Kidwells passion, fair call. I thought maybe a first grade gig might have helped him before hitting the national coaching job. Big Mal Meninga would be a hopeless coach at club level, but look at how he flourished at state level. Then again it's all about having the right people around you, gee, he had a great crew and he's emulated that at National level. I hope Kidwell gets the support he needs but when it gets down to it Mr Thinker, I still want them to lose. Can't understand how an Australian can coach another nation to beat Australia. I'll never get my head around that. Cheers from Mr Awesome

a's picture

JT is set to play

pabdul's picture

i think kidwell will go alright he has assisted coaches like Bellamy and youve got the best players at your disposal.
he's well known as he's played at more clubs than the delltones. it will probably go down to how well he uses his bench players. which incidentally was his best position.

Steel Panther's picture

Thinker you are giving the Warriors way more credit than they deserve. What happens here in NZ is they win a game or two and you get some people coming out with comments like "they've turned the corner" but us day one hard core followers have suffered way too much to get sucked into another false dawn.

Don't get my wrong, I want them to succeed but too many let downs. How they played on Sunday is what is expected in the NRL week in week out, not every now and then. Every year the potential is there and every year the fans are let down.

Tailspin's picture

Hey everyone, should be a very entertaining weekend of footy
Junior roos by 8
Jillaroos by 2
And I hope I'm wrong, but I'm with the Thinker on this one, I think the Kiwis by 8. They just look a better squad on paper.
Cook Island by 4
Tonga by 6
England by 14
Country by 4
Cheers and hope you have a good weekend.

Tailspin's picture

Sorry I meant Fiji by 6

Greetings from the Spartan Warrior.
Sport, life, war it's all a battle and thus much can gleaned from the way of the Spartan.

For me it's kiwis & country

Hi all, just putting this out there. Is scrapping the City v Country so critical? It's basically one extra game. Fairdinkum let those players wear a rep jersey that they may never have a chance to wear rep wise. I applaud those clubs allowing their players to play. The mighty Dragons are one of the highest contributors to the rep system. I was informed that around 13 are representing various rep fixtures. Anyway, one City v Country fixture a year will not hurt bush footy. The best coaches in the game look far and wide. Cheers from Mr Awesome

BigPeteBx's picture

Sometimes Awesome the game needs to be leveled up.
So what happens, Aust coaches go to assist others. Oh ok, they get good bucks for it also.
Benny did it for a reason and in ways it is good for the game, but not necessarily country/nation.
The Aussie Top Job wasn't vacant and I guess he wanted to be involved.
I recall my cricket "mates" had a fellow called Bacchus involved with the England Academy. Australia has the best cricket academy at grassroots levels and others wish they had it and the program.
Look at West Indies and what is happening to them. Buuuuuuut, you need cash invested and sponsors supporting rich sports.

Keep well mate - BPBx

Great to see the "rep round" expanded to include Pacific Islands and of course the Ladies of Rugby League.
With about half (at least) the Kiwi team leaving their Aussie clubs to play for NZ and lots of others leaving their Aussie Clubs to play for other Pacific Island Nations it does make me wonder a little bit.
Are we using our great Aussie Coaches to bring these guys up to rep level only to lose them to other Countries when we get to play international football?
If our club's players are predominately Pacific Islanders who declare loyalty elsewhere where will that leave our National Team in years to come.
Perhaps if you're born in Australia then you play for Australia.
What's wrong with that? and conversely if your born in NZ, or Tonga etc then you play there at rep level.
Thoughts anyone?

Johnny Awesome's picture

Hi all and kind regards Big Pete, I'm hearing ya, but seriously, would Wayne Bennett be 100% on England's side? Surely as an Australian he might prop them up but his heart wouldn't be there? Remember the Craig Bellamy fiasco when he coached NSW. They were never going to win under his stewardship, the majority of Queenslanders were from Melbourne at that time and he wasn't going to give away tricks, tactics that could compromise his team in the NRL. That was the main reason they brought in stand alone coaches for State and Country. Well Big Pete, Wayne Bennett is still coaching at club level. The England side has a swag of NRL players, playing against Brisbane. Just wondering if there is any compromise or he has really turned into Darth Vader and the dark side. Interesting watching Big Pete cheers from Johnny Awesome

Johnny Awesome's picture

Me Mark Ashford, I'm not too worried about that. I visited my folks in the central west 3 weeks ago. Guess what? Footy is strong, there are so many players that could cut it but will never get the chance. I have no probs evening up the competition so we get to see a good game of footy. Real footy started in Australia in the early 1900's. It didn't take us long to start to dominate. The system we have will ensure Australia will be predominately on top, few hiccups along the way of course. The best thing for international rugby league is not sending our coaches or players to prop them up but to bring them to the NRL. We've got a NewZesland side in the comp how about creating an England side as well, a Samoan side and Figi side as well. There's plenty room in Australia and just think a country town could be the one hosting these overseas clubs, Cheers fromr Awesome

pabdul's picture

i tried but couldnt find new zesland or figi on the map but they do sound competitive

Johnny Awesome's picture

Hohoho Mr Pabdul

a's picture

Last ever city vs country

pabdul's picture

more roosters drama SKD arrested drug possession

Baggy_Gee's picture

FFS, I know that sometimes NRL players are bone heads. But with all the zero tolerance on drugs, using drugs and bringing the game in to disgrace, you know doing anything like that is a one way ticket out.

pabdul's picture

hes been getting to the white line but not scoring tries

Baggy_Gee's picture

But I bet he feels like he scores every time. What does the bunker say, NO TRY.

pabdul's picture

maybe NO BRAIN

pabdul's picture

i wonder how that will effect his future as far as ive been told SKD was going to the Knights.
and poor old broncos are set to lose milford to storm. nikorima and Marshall your halves good luck.

mark ashford's picture

If Milford goes to Storm I'll be most disappointed.
He left Raiders saying "he had to be near family in Bris as his father was unwell"
Last time I looked at a map Melbourne is a bit further from Bris than Canberra.
Broncs will bring back Langer & Lockyer ....unbeatable.
What exactly was Josh Reynolds referring to when he said "the time has come for him at the Dogs because of the cap"
Love him or hate him he's one of the dogs best.
Is he being squeezed out to pay for Woods etc.
I know who I'd rather have in my team.

As for SKD, he's had his share of problems lately and this (if proven) may end his career. It appears he was headed to the Knights yet another blow to the club (if he's guilty)
Appreciate the humour Padbul and Baggy.
Always thought Josh would be a one club man.

pabdul's picture

good news mark milford just knocked back storms offer to take less money to stay ... a rare thing these days

mark ashford's picture

Thank you Mr Padbul. You do have your ear to the ground.
I'll ring Langer & Lockyer and tell them to put their boots back in the shed.
Please correct me if I'm wrong but I think you're allowed a small bag of Mary J for personal use (depends where you live I guess) Does this rule apply to cocaine? Apparently and allegedly he only had a small baggy. No reference to you Baggy Gee... hope you don't have any small or large "baggies"

Johnny Awesome's picture

Hi all, looking forward to the footy tonight including the Jillaroos. Cheers from Mr Awesome

a's picture

Looking foward for tonight

mark ashford's picture

Hi "a' Yes looking forward to the Aussies getting over our Kiwi brothers by a point or two.
Aussies by 6 ......go you Kangaroos

Dragons-fanboy's picture

Greetings everyone, rep round footy this week:

Junior Kangaroos by 6 - Match already completed but this is what I thought of the winner/margin.

Jillaroos by 2

Kangaroos by 10 will be a tough game though and the Kiwis to put us to the test. But, I think that we'll come out on top here.

PNG by 8

Tonga by 12

England by 4

And finally... Country by 6- As much as I want the City side to win as I'm from the City area of NSW, Country deserve to win the last City vs Country match as this match means so much to the Country and it'll be great for the Country community if Country finish this match off with a win.

Awesome. Will continue to be a great week of rep footy this week. Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

a's picture

Yeah AUS to win

Johnny Awesome's picture

Mr a did you put me in for the Raiders in your comp?
Cheers from Mr Awesome

a's picture

Yep I did

BigPeteBx's picture

Evenin Pabdul -
SKD will come good and he'll sniff something out of the bag.
then he'll have gotten away from White Line Fever.

BigPeteBx's picture

Hey J A -
I hope you got to read the last post I made in Round 9 on page 6 mate.

Yes, taking City v Country away from the calendar is bad news. Country people thrive on seeing their stars in action. The only stars that NRL wants is Sydney Stars in dollars.
Keep well CanberDos.

BigPeteBx's picture

Hello Mark A and hope all is well with you.
This is Oz not Amsterdam Bro.
No small amounts in NSW, but I recall Canberra had some fine line printed over the minimum amount you could be in possession of without being charged.
However, that might have been introduced as part of Parliamentary Privileges.

Yes Baggy has some large baggies and plays a good Scottish tune.
