Canterbury Bulldogs vs North Queensland Cowboys – Thursday night – ANZ Stadium
A couple of important inclusions for the Cowboys in Coote and Granville, but the Thurstiest man on their roster won't be there. In one of the more unusual positional changes Asiata shifts from the halves to prop forward. If that's not a first in the NRL it's right next to first. The Cowboys will need all hands on deck in that engine room when they take on this mighty Bulldogs pack. Given that challenge, and the absence of Thurston, it all points to a victory for the home team.
Verdict – Bulldogs by 4
Result – Cowboys by 16
St George Illawarra Dragons vs Cronulla Sharks – Friday night – UOW Jubilee Oval
It's one of those special rivalires in the NRL but this clash has lost some of its lustre with the injuries to Josh Dugan and Gareth Widdop. The battle of the forwards has me salivating and that alone will keep this game close, but that Sharks backline is intact and, all other things being equal, should outpoint those opposite. Worth watching though, particularly if you like big units belting the cheese out of each other for 80 minutes.
Verdict – Sharks by 8
Result – Sharks by 4
Wests Tigers vs South Sydney Rabbitohs – Friday night – ANZ Stadium
Finally we get to see Robbie Farah face his old club. I imagine Farah is feeling pretty comfortable with himself given how the Tigers have gone about unravelling themselves. What's more, the Tigers are actually paying most of his salary this season, and what they are paying him would be more than what most of the players actually wearing Tigers jerseys are getting paid. Three of the big four in Tiger Town are playing on Friday night but Aaron Woods isn't, and in this case he's probably the most important of the four. Without Woods the Tigers look set to struggle in the forwards and the consistent (if somewhat predictable) kicking game of Reynolds can help keep the Tigers pinned at the wrong end of the wrong paddock (note this Tigers home game has been taken to the Rabbitohs home ground). It's not particularly funny, but Farah gets the last laugh.
Verdict – Rabbitohs by 4
Result – Rabbitohs by 20
Penrith Panthers vs New Zealand Warriors – Saturday afternoon – Pepper Stadium
Here it is folks – this seasons most frustrating team taking on the winner of the most frustrating team award for the previous ten years in succession. And yet here I am tipping the Panthers again...I must be a very slow learner. There's nothing particularly rational about my choice, other than glass-half full thinking that at some point the Panthers are going to show us something this season, and many of these Warriors are backing up from international duty and another game in Australia. They usually save their worst for us. If they are near their best I'll have this completely wrong.
Verdict – Panthers by 2
Result – Panthers by 8
Melbourne Storm vs Gold Coast Titans – Saturday night – Suncorp Stadium
Both sides lose one key man each with Jesse Bromwich (Storm) and Proctor (Titans) suspended from duty for off-field stupidity. I assume they won't be hitting Caxton Street together for a drink or two after the game. Now I've probably told you all a thousand times that tipping against the Storm is a mugs game, but I'm tipping against the Storm. They've lost just once this season but they're missing some key men in the middle. A lot of these Titans should be nice and fresh and they'll be well prepared for this game. They've struggled with injuries all season but they have so many of their key men available right now they've got Jarryd Hayne playing in the centres. They're rank outsiders and they probably should be, but I'm giving them a live chance.
Verdict – Titans by 2
Result – Titans by 2
Manly Sea Eagles vs Brisbane Broncos – Saturday night – Suncorp Stadium
I'm tipping two upsets at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night. Since round two the Sea Eagles have been taking on top eight teams and have proven to be more than competitive. They beat the Cowboys in Townsville and the Raiders in Canberra. Their only losses during this period were an absolute towelling by the Dragons and a narrow loss to the Storm – that's the top two teams on the ladder right now. Last start they absolutely ran riot over the Rabbitohs, a team that almost beat the Broncos in round eight. They're up to this, paticularly while the Broncos are without Hunt and Roberts. This game gives Mr Cherry-Evans an opportunity to show the QLD Origin selectors what he can do too.
Verdict – Sea Eagles by 4
Result – Broncos by 10
Newcastle Knights vs Canberra Raiders – Sunday afternoon – McDonald Jones Stadium
Insert logical reasoning here. None of you would be tipping the Knights so I can say just about anything can't I? My hovercraft is full of eels.
Verdict – Raiders by 16
Result – Knights by 14
Sydney Roosters vs Parramatta Eels – Sunday afternoon – Allianz Stadium
Shaun Kenny-Dowall really dropped the ball last week...which isn't unusual. He's resting this week, and he may struggle to get another contract from here. Mind you, for a backpacker who just turned up from New Zealand and thought he'd give the game a try he's made a pretty reasonable career out of it. It beats picking fruit for a living, which could be his next contract. Note that Bevan French is named on an extended bench so keep watching the skies in case he gets called into the seventeen. I'm a fan. In any case I'm with the chooks on Sunday – every time I look at that Roosters forward pack I start smiling like an idiot. They're so good Aiden Guerra can't even get a start. If the Eels played for 80 minutes I'd be tipping them, but they're likely to switch off in patches and the tricolours won't. That may prove to be the difference.
Verdict – Roosters by 4
Result – Roosters by 38
Wally Lewis - round ten selections (in bold)

Good afternoon Pabdul - go your syntexing is a ripper, if others can grip the usage.
Weather started out here nice with sun about. Now it is coming in cloudy and very overcast - rain has been predicted.
With Roosters playing at Allianz, never know what flows down to the metrop. May not get there until after the match.
Have a nice afternoon King BB and get The Chooks revved up on some Zoom (bp) in them.

Cheers the fortress

Fairdinkum Mr Fortress, you do get your tail up. Manly played with a lot of guts I guess Tom Trbojevic's injury helped put the nail in their coffin. In saying that Brisbane had more of the attack in the second half and Manly defended well. Check the stats in the second half. In addition, Manly did have an extra try that shouldn't have been. It's all good Mr Fortress, it was a tough game of footy and I enjoyed it. Cheers from Mr Awesome.

Hi you all
Been absent for a bit and have just tried to read most of the posts.
First I think you are all wrong about Coach posting under other names.
Must be a laugh for those posters.
Coach is very proud of what he does and wouldn't post under anything but "Coach"
C'mon Coach prove me wrong.

Big pete bx it doesn't work that way on the thinkers site they know when you register with what computer you use by your I p address so if you have more than one computer or you have access to more than one computer you can register more than one names but once you deregister the site won't let you register on you computer again because of the I p address ok ...

Fortress...dont ya think it would be better to stick to talking about the game than worrying about whether coach is a fake poster? He's not even here yet he's getting airtime. Considering how many people he rubbed up the wrong way (me included) it seems a bit bizzare.

Probably like a few others I didn't know Broncs/Manly Storm/Titans was in Brisbane double header.
Almost a home game to the Titans?
Why do they do this?
Submitted by BigPeteBx on
Yes Christine - only three with me so far, as well.
But we'll kick on.
Thanks for the IP address link stuff re logins to Thinker site.
In a previous one of yours. I knew Guerie well from railway days. They (NSW Govt), spent big, big bucks on doing re-signalling there at a level crossing, to also cross main highway with pedestrian access points.
Memories,,,,,,,,and thanks
Submitted by BigPeteBx on
Hello Mark - yes Broncs certainly made a second half of the second half charge and succeeded. Never ever, lay down when playing Broncs I say.
That or make sure it is mistake free footy.
The double headers come about by more bums on seats and big bucks that follows.

I'm picking up what your putting down there Panther. Here's to hoping that the magic from last night continues, I got so jack of watching it that I'm just in from doing an oil/coolant/lightbulb change. Sit back down and nothing has changed. Enough to make a man take up drinking.

Believe what u want mark and steel its my opinion OK mark if coach was so proud than why does he leave the site when he doesn't get his way isn't that childish he don't own this site mate its not the question of pride!!!!!
Steel panther u asked a question of why some people may be obbsessed with him I was only giving you my side of the story u dont have to agree and one more thing do really in your heart of hearts think that no matter weather he comes back that anything will be anything different no I don't think so ,so steel panther we are all sick of been taken for a ride by a poster who is also very vocal about others and there clubs its not just me posting about him go back and read others on here they have just had a gutful and simply woken up to him!!!!!!
I thought the warriors were great yesturday how on earth did they lose the un loseable !!!!!!!!

Interesting results so far Titans beat Storm and Knights beat Raiders.
Looks like Chooks will beat the Eels.
How can we tip a perfect round?
Big Pete is it all about money?
How sad is that?
What about the Manly fans losing a home game for money.
Manly at home may have just beat the Broncs.
What the f--k is going on?
Who decides this?
I for one is pissed off that Storm had to travel to Bris to play Titans (almost a home game for them)and the Manly boys had to give up a home game to play Broncs in Bris.
Is anyone caring about the fans?
This stinks of money and I hate it.
Submitted by Baggy_Gee on
What about the Titans fans? I know its just a short burst up the road, and as much as I detest the Ponies, there is nothing better than Suncorp pack to the gills. But doesn't their home ground deserve a match of that calibre?

The Warriors were similar to Manly this weekend. After a brilliant first 40 they forgot to come out for the second half. A loss is a loss but losing say 14-12 is easier to take than losing after having a 22 point lead. A loss like that is soul destroying.

No Johnny Awesome you got 1 life left just like me but Raiders have been horrible to us I don't think I will be using them again
Tailspin if your reading this you stil have 1 life left make sure you get your tip in next week you never know some People are on 2 strikes you could beat them
Submitted by Baggy_Gee on
Ha Ha jokes on you, they only managed 48. The problem I see is that without Friend, every single try was an outside back. This means the rot from the last few years where we defend to small and leave our edges weak is coming back. The last few wins we have had have been strong edges. Good job to the BBB's Newbie, to good today.

I just look at the papers teams lists and who they show as home teams.
In each case Manly and Storm were shown as at home.
Thank you for correcting me but don't worry about SOO as I'm sure we have 2 games this year in Bris, at Suncorp the old Lang Park.
Don't need you to remind me about anything Padbul except how many times your Blues have lost.

Baggy your Eels were stitched up today.
Can't blame the refs the Roosters were just on form.
You guys will come back, it's only round 10 and there's 16 to go.
Keep the faith.
Same as the Panthers, an enormous win over the Warriors and they will go on from here.
I think the comp is wide open with 16 rounds to go.

Now that's what footy is about. There are a lot of good people in footy. Easy to read about the bad stuff and miss the good things methinks. P.S Mr 'a' the day we jump off the Raiders will be the day they win, good ol Murphy will see to that. Cheers from Mr Awesome

I love your humour, I laugh at your jokes, and will look more carefully at "venue" in the future.
As a Qlder we have to watch you NSW people carefully, you never know when you are slipping us a bit of misinformation, you know unsubstantiated injuries, unavailable players, and perhaps players who have passed away but are just recovering ready for SOO.
Good luck to you blues. We are ready for you.
