Hi Chris
I agree completely. The 'footy show" has been rubbish for years.
Sorry Big Pete but even though fatty is a QLDer as an entertainer he is hopeless.
Perhaps the fault lies with the producers or the writers but the writing has been on the wall for years, was nobody listening.
An hour of pure RL with tips, game reviews and player interviews would be appreciated.
The 3 Stooges showed us how to laugh at slapstick in the 40's and 50's and they did it well. But that was 70 odd years ago.

a's picture

Yeah as I said seeing man dressed up as women on the footy show is trash thats why I watch the fox sports ones instead cause they focus on the football and not themselves

BigPeteBx's picture

Agree with you 'a'.
Turned me off the show as well. The Drags of Television.
What must our forefathers of Rugby League be thinking.
I'd sooner be watching Reg Reagan.

Happy Saturday to you Steely.
Some of us are about, in phases.
Us "Yowies" west of The Sandstone Curtain (Blue Mountains), don't hibernate in Summer.

Got ya mate with Wellington Phoenix and NZ Breakers.
Yes Steely, I'm a very keen EPL man. I played and coached for many years. Coached Western NSW also in NSW State Championships (Under 12's to Under 16's).
I wont hold Liverpool against you. I know many that follow the same team. A draw was the best outcome last weekend. Each had chances and I picked the draw in the two tipping comps I am in. I do love me Man Utd brother.

That a boy mate with Glasgow Rangers, because I follow them also.
I have my fave teams in each nation/league. For example - Sydney FC, Juventus, PSG, Ajax, Anderlecht, Real Madrid etc. I won't bore you with it.
A friend of mine brought me back their (Rangers) club dress tie, when he was in Scotland, a couple of years ago.

When I was coaching junior club soccer/football here, the FA Cup used to be played the same night of the Scottish Cup and the local presence of Scots, we have were very divided and would be separated at the junior games and be throwing flack at each other, in fun.
One of the young lads I coached as a junior, now runs a distillery here in the "suburbs". I also noticed today, an application going through our local council for another distillery, to be build in the opposite direction of town.

I'll push on mate and you keep well and be very supportive of your teams, like I know you are.
Cheers - Big Pete

Don't be sorry Mark - I had no love for their nature/manner on the Fruit Loops Show.
Danny Weidler gets down to the nuts and bolts of the code and what he is hearing about. That's the sort of stuff we want to see.

Me thinks Fatty and The Boys were riding their dinky bikes, around the back of Channel 9 and they tipped theirs over and hits their heads, once too often.

Cheers and keep well
Big Pete

The Thinker's picture

I confess that I haven't 'watched' the footy show for a very long time, although I did catch bits of it here and there in recent times.

Erin Molan is a very good host. Fatty is Fatty, and whatever you say about the man, there aren't many in Australian television that can say they hosted a variety TV show in Australia for as long as he did (20+ years). He has never been the same since he got injured in the giant sumo suit. He lost his sharpness. Not sure how much of that is from the Sumo injury or decades of playing in the forwards against men that were a lot bigger than he was. The lawyers will have to work that out.

It was never a show for me, but obviously someone out there liked it. They won 10 of the last 13 logies for Best Sports Show on Australian television, and half the country doesn't even get to watch it.

The Annoying Devil's picture

Hi Thinker
I just want to run past you a prediction comp that can be entered before round 1 where everyone can answer a few questions before the comp starts and will find out who is the Nostradamus of the thinker comp I will donate the prizes
It would be in 2 sections the first a team section where you’d be asked to answer the following
Who will be premiers
Who will be the grand final teams
What is your top 8
What is your bottom 8
Who will be minor premiers
Who will be wooden spooners
Who will win origin
Then in the players section
Most results will be determined by the dally m awards
Dally m player of the year
Captain of the year
Rookie of the year
Highest point scorer
Highest try scorer
Coach of the year
If you approve I can go over the points system closer to the date
What do you think...er

mark ashford's picture

TAD
I like your comp. I for one would like to participate.
Perhaps the most difficult competition we have been offered.
If Thinker agrees count me in.

a's picture

Yeah sounds like a great comp TAD hopefully the Thinker approves and creates a page for the comp

a's picture

And I'm in

The Thinker's picture

Hello TAD

I like the sound of that. I will build a page especially for your competition and we can nut out the details and people can submit their predictions there.

Thank you for offering. I really appreciate it.

All the best

a's picture

Yeah I can't wait for you to enter the TAD comp hopefully the Thinker builds up the page for the
Comp soon

christine 's picture

Until TAD's comp gets put up why not have a say on were everyone thinks cooper cronk will pledge his loyalty for another year ? ...

a's picture

I personally thought Cronk should have retired

mark ashford's picture

Hi Chris
From most media reports (if you can believe them) Cooper is headed to the Roosters.
Where does that leave Mitchell Pearce who has been playing well?
The QLD half v the NSW half.
Is Cooper better than Mitchell? and how long has Mitchell been a loyal Roosters player?

christine 's picture

Cooper Could go to Cronulla they do want to off load Maloney but like "a" said I would have thought he would remain a one club man & not sign with any other club so he never plays against storm , it will be interesting to see what he decides to do but only time will tell ...

christine 's picture

Can't believe sandor earl has signed with storm on a one year deal for 2018 ...

BigPeteBx's picture

Very good probing question, you posed there Christine, about future of Cooper Cronk (CC).
We're now informed Eels are out of the decision.
Now, with Cooper and Tara proposing to live in Mosman, if Cooper was a free target/transfer, my club at Brookvale, might be an offer.
We can give them water by the beach at Manly and not always rain, like Melbourne.
Otherwise, I'm sure NRL and the cap would otherwise Explode, with a capital E.
If its only for one season and no extending, I'd prefer to see CC get into media and that way he retires, as a one club player.

I don't really know, but wherever he goes, he'll be well welcomed and good value.

Cheers - Big Pete

BigPeteBx's picture

Hey TAD - your prediction comp looks very enticing.

This isn't The Chase is it and I take it u r not Andrew O'K.

Logical questions, which should see a vast array of answers coming forward, before Round 1.

Count me in TAD and Thinker, I'll be a definite starter in The 2018 Thinker Tipping Comp again, if all is well and I am accepted.

Cheers
Big Pete

Baggy_Gee's picture

Glad to hear that CC is not going to become one of the BOYS. We have a glut of good players and adding another to the mix which isn't broken would just ruin it. I'll take him as a specialist halves coach which would be a good use of his talent if he can teach the skills he has, not all talent can teach it. But best of British to him where ever he ends up.

a's picture

Yes BigPete can't wait for TAD comp and hopefully you will be my comp again next year

Kiwi Koos's picture

Mr Thinker and BigPete, how about some tips for the World Cup for those of us who play prediction games on other websites? Would be nice to get some input from the prediction masters!!

The Annoying Devil's picture

I’m hearing Cronk to roosters and Pearce to manly which will see green off to warriors
I think Pearce and Evans would make manly a real contender in 2018.

christine 's picture

Pearce To manly sure would make big pete & all the other manly supporters happy too ...

BigPeteBx's picture

Good evening 'a'.
Yes mate, The TAD Comp will test a predictors predictions and as it is a forecast projected view, anything can happen and that is where it becomes Chance.

Get the 'a' comp going early bro and I'll be in it. Taipans had a win last weekend, but I've lost touch with a couple of matches.

Keep well old son and keep in touch.
Big Pete

BigPeteBx's picture

Good evening Miss Christine.
If we can keep Mitch's attitude in check and see that he doesn't go off the rails, I think we have a good scrum base combination going there.
Now Curtis is there, I'm sure there is plenty of experience to be gained from dear dad's in Paul and Wayne (Junior).

Might have to get Fortress on the spot and keep some of the training updates coming from Ground Zero - Fortress Brookvale.

@Fortress/Eagle Rocks - you guys got anything going on over there, or discussing over a flat black, or latte in The Corso.

Cheers Christine and how is your health going.
Big Pete

BigPeteBx's picture

TAD - like your comments, but I'll take it as we go.
Keep the ship a sailing straight and we should be able to hit mainland.

I'm not one, for getting too fluffed up, too early.
I've seen too many glamour teams fall over, at the last hurdle.

Lets get/sign Mitch first and steady him in and we might see the rebirth of DCE/J. Lyon combination back in play again.

Remember, Sharks aren't out of the signing Mitch equation yet.

Cheers
Big Pete

BigPeteBx's picture

Agree Baggy G.
Many good players don't make good teachers or coaches.
Cronk is like Warnie, pass the skill and technique on, by mentoring players. Otherwise it will be lost.

Keep well BG
Big Pete

BigPeteBx's picture

Hahahaha......like your status of the tippers at Thinker site.
I haven't joined any World Cup tipping sites, due the the comp being so short. I'm having enough battles at present, getting back in front of my EPL Tipping.

The fact is Kiwi (KK), you go out there to win all matches in the shortest given time. Again it will come down to the big three, to ride it through.
The Islanders, are a good chance of upsets along the way, or scare the livin daylights out of the tall poppies.

Thinker might have some more finer details, of the how /why of matches, if/when he has the time.
I'll take Kangaroos tomorrow night, because The Poms will go out there to upset the Roos game and put them off foot. Aussies will play football, as only Mal knows too well. His last words each match might be - Take No Prisoners.

I wish you all the best

Cheers KK and keep well
Big Pete

BigPeteBx's picture

BTW TAD - a couple of field goal rippers, with them also.
Can you imagine either sizing up the black spot.
They'll have it worked out that well, so that one draws the tackle and the other slots it.

Cheers - looking forward to it, as I'm like quite a few here and bloody missing it. Many others have gone into Summer hibernation.

Big Pete

The Annoying Devil's picture

Pete
Sharks are actually out of the race for Pearce but the knights are keen especially with SKD and Guarra there
already
I personally don’t think Cronk is the right fit at the roosters and I hope Pearce stays and Politis acknowledges his loyalty but winning only 1 premiership from 3 minors thinks Nick will get his man

The Annoying Devil's picture

It’s good to see some interest in the prediction comp
Looking over it I need to change one of the questions. rookie of the year would be too hard to pick before round 1 the rookie may not play till later due to injury or form
So I’m going to replace it with picking a bold prediction which has to be a prediction where you stick your neck out eg Cameron Smith will captain qld
Is not a bold prediction. A winger will be top try scorer is not a bold prediction.
Latrell Mitchell will play for NSW or
Ivan Clearly will get sacked before the end of the season are bold predictions
This should get the minds thinking

a's picture

Yeah BigPete the comp will be running again in round 1 I can't wait to start it again and yes Tipans won against Perth easily

The Annoying Devil's picture

A
Being a cowboys supporter I just got word Todd Carney has signed with the Northern Pride so expect to see him in a cowboys jumper sooner than later

Dragons-fanboy's picture

Hey everyone, my tip for tonights match is obviously going to be the Kangaroos. Enjoy the match everyone. I'm sure that I will.

Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

a's picture

Yeah hopefully Carney plays for the Cowboys

christine 's picture

Pete I still don't know what is happening with treatment as yet I haven't been told anything more about when it will be , kind of frustrating but I just keep on keeping on so how are you going pete like TAD I would prefer to refer to you as pete not as big pete if that's alright with you but it's your call you tell us what you prefer , it's a really long off season & we are not even in November yet kind of board of it bring back the nrl & don't have any more off seasons that's how it would be if it was up to me pete keep safe & speak to you again soon Christine ...

christine 's picture

Off Course league can't be played all year around with summer we would have players dying from heat exposure ...

mark ashford's picture

Hi Chris, 'a', Big Pete, TAD, the fanboy and anyone else logging in.
Good to see the talk is still happening.
My tip tonight is Kangaroos by 14 in an angry match.
Don't forget the punch is allowed, pity Fifita deserted his country of birth.

a's picture

Australia win 18-4 what Did you think of the game

mark ashford's picture

Hi 'a"
Australia did enough to win the game, my 14 point prediction came true thanks to Dugan's intercept, length of the field try and Cam Smith's kicking. Wasn't a convincing win however and we need to improve if we are to win the cup.

BigPeteBx's picture

Good evening 'a'.
Perth it was and I noticed late last night, that Adelaide only got over NQ Taipans by 4 pts.

EPL should be a ripper game tonight. Man Utd v Tottenham, but I think Harry Kane is out for Spurs.
TV's are the issue, as you get an after midnight game played of a lesser nature, rather than a 10.30pm tonight match, on Free to Air.

Even A-League is the same of a Friday night, if you can find who is televising, as SBS seem to be up against the new player in TEN HD.
This round so far - I have jumped 70 slots/positions, due to the draw I picked earlier this evening.

Cheers mate - Big Pete

BigPeteBx's picture

Correct there Dr Chris, re heat exposure with Summer NRL.
Soccer plays it though in Australia in our A-League.

Cheers - Big Pete

BigPeteBx's picture

Good evening Christine.
Thats a bugger with modern medicine and the waiting and worrying.
I'm not too bad. Back into eye specialist mid-January to do other one.
The op is called a vitrectomy and it goes behind the eye and takes the fluid from there, to hopefully get rid of those aggravating floaters.
They usually place a gas in there. Doesn't sound nice, but the risks are much like what those go through, with cataracts. Also a further glutton for punishment, as I had a bad skin lesion taken off my lower leg by g/surgeon a few weeks ago. But all's good - there are lots worse than me and what I've gone through. Its just that I share, so others are aware and alert, in case they have it, or get it, at some stage in their life.

Big Pete was the stage name I took here. Some I know call be Big Pete, Big Fella, but plain Pete is ok with me Missy. Its also less to write for you. If another Pete should come on site, then there'll be identification issues. Some sites and at my work, I am known as Pete C Eagle. C as in short for Sea and also C, as it is the first letter of my surname.

I only just got the flash on it, but two days ago, apparently Manly were brought under notice by NSW Police about the clubs theme song, as it seems to stir the supporters up and get them firing or firey.
Bugger me Christine whats next.
Oh well ok - NRL has found no wrongdoing by the Manly Club in match fixing.

Nice having a brief chat - keep well and enjoy the remainder of your weekend.
Pete (not saint - yet) aka Big Pete

BigPeteBx's picture

Evening Mark A - that was a fearless prediction for first match of RLWC.
Well done Old Son!!!!
Best run I've seen of Darcy (Dugan), since he played NRL.

Yes mate, the punch is allowed, but its not needed in the game. They use it as an aggressive ploy and that stirs fire up.
One single ref and maybe that is extra good, because there was so much stuffing up with inter communication between the centre two, as we saw in NRL. It will also get them fit, like running from one end to the other. Like the days of Bill Harrigan, Gary Cook, Kevin Roberts, Greg Hartley, Mick Stone and their predecessors.

Cheers - Big Pete

christine 's picture

Pete AkA Big pete I don't mind calling you pete or big pete either way but I did want to say I know about floaters with the eyes & also pink eye which is different to what my neighbour has which is macular degeneration as well as having glaucoma & I check in on her every day just to make sure she is ok because she is on her own now & she's 91 yrs old & has to have injections in her eye every 4 - 8 weeks now which is expensive so be glad you don't have that but she has fluid behind her eye which is part of it . speak to you again soon pete aka big pete Christine or as mark calls me chris ...

mark ashford's picture

Hi Big Pete
A lucky guess on that score mate. last time the Burgess boys mainly Sam offered a few haymakers with little result.
The PNG Kumuls flogged the poor Welsh team in 35 degrees and about 150% humidity. They have just arrived from late winter in Wales were it was 10 degrees or less and zero humidity. Is this a fair comp?
Saying that the PNG boys would have beaten Aust with their incredible commitment.
Signing off for a while. Keep well all.

The Annoying Devil's picture

Just been told that Matt Moylan is definitely leaving the panthers and looks like he’s heading to the sharks which will be announced this week

BigPeteBx's picture

Hello Chris (if that is ok), not a prob with Pete, a couple of my ex raily mates also call me PC, but I've told them, not to say that too fast. Hahahahaha.
U r a very nice neighbour to have and also good to have someone making sure that the elderly are ok. One of my local association colleagues, has a needle in the eye. I know that to rid the fluid from behind the eye/s, involves three fine prongs going in by keyhole surgery and withdrawing it out. Yes, I am luckier than many.

In RLWC, PNG, Tonga and Fiji teams, have all hit the 50 club in their matches. They will play it in attack, as they run and back up, like there is no tomorrow.

Keep well and have a nice week - Big Pete
