Game preview
Queensland impressed in game one in Sydney, on the back of some next-level performances from a few of their experienced crew (Munster and Holmes in particular), some extraordinary debuts from the 3Cs (Cotter, Carrigan and Cobbo) and an impressive coaching debut at Origin or any other level from Billy Slater. Queensland won the ruck but they weren't doing it all night ref - instead the Queenslanders selectively slowed the ruck down during key moments in the game. It was smart football, and our more intelligent (and generally superior in every way) friends from New South Wales were caught by surprise. Never underestimate the intellect of a person with two heads. NSW coach Brad Fittler was quick to point it out after the game, and fair enough too. He'll want the referee (and it's the same referee) to take more notice of such things in game two, and he wants his team to believe that, if not for the advantage QLD gained in the ruck, NSW would have won the game. Is he right? Perhaps. He may want his team to believe in themselves, but it didn't stop him making mass changes for the clash in Perth. Only one of those changes (Jack Wighton) was forced upon him. Fittler has effectively named Penrith for this. About the only Panthers he didn't bring in were their Kiwi and Polynesian forwards and Edwards at fullback, but he was never going to replace his captain (who, to his credit, tried everything to drag NSW back into the contest in game one). It's not silly, given what Penrith are doing at NRL level, and he will now have Koroisau, Cleary, Luai and Yeo all working together in attack. That can work. It's been working for years at club level. As for Queensland, their only changes were forced upon them, but Queensland have always tried to pick and stick (while NSW drops players faster than a dodgy Tinder date). Arrow comes in for the injured Cotter and Taulagi debuts on a wing (replacing the injured Coates). That Taulagi and Holmes combine at the Cowboys (and have been in red hot form) is a massive tick in my books. Notably, Koroisau and Arrow are returning to Origin after both were guilty of off-field Covid discretions in earlier Origin camps. All is forgiven lads (although perhaps not by your wives). I'm tipping NSW in this - I do like the look of all those Panthers, and they need this more than Queensland do. Queensland will try their guts out because it's a part of their DNA, but NSW need this to keep the series alive. They'll pull their collective fingers out and get it done. That would give us a series decider at Lang Park - not a bad outcome I say.
Verdict: NSW 23 to defeated QLD 16
Player of the match: James Tedesco
*team line-ups are subject to change and will be updated as soon as possible.

Agree with the form of Qld team - a 3/0 victory of 2022 origin series will be sweet!!

To listen to what Rocket says about Qld being the in form team indicates one thing, the Rocket Man is surely smoking something illegal cause he comes out with some outrageously funny stuff, most of his funny stuff is stolen from someone else.
Just out of interest, can we canvass the tipsters on the site to see who follows who, if you follow Queensland make a comment Queensland, if you follow the Blues, make a comment Blues.
Might be interesting to see how many cockroaches there really are, the one thing about cockroaches is a proven scientific point, they can survive anything.

It's like the pest control people say - there are always a lot more cockroaches than you think. For every one you see there are at least a dozen hiding in the "dark, filthy crevices of the world" (I assume they are referring to Sydney).

Here are some stats from the website for you - these are our top twenty cities around the world for people who have visited The Thinker in the last two months. Interestingly (for me at least) I've been discovered in PNG recently. Not sure why, perhaps more people are getting access to the internet. Of course there are people living in Sydney who cheer for QLD and people in Brisbane who cheer for NSW. Almost everyone in PNG would cheer for QLD:
1. Sydney 28,702
2. Brisbane 20,230
3. Port Moresby 6,563
4. Melbourne 3,493
5. Auckland 1,717
6. Gold Coast 1,676
7. Canberra 1,172
8. Perth 1,146

Thanks Thinker
Those stats must be a good read from your point of view. Congratulations on a great site that is becoming very popular.
I wonder if we could canvas those that have visited the site and see how many of them rate what Rocket comes up with.
With that many touching base with this site, it is more important for us tipsters to be in early with our tips.
I can't see NSW getting rolled in Perth, we will head to Brisbane all square.

Please explain how you get so many errors in your posts, I know you like to use the voice activation when sending text messages but honestly, some of your posts are like you were on your 15th can of lager when you post it.
I am happy to proof read them for you if that helps, remember we are on an international stage here with the Thinker, maybe those viewing your tips would be much higher if your posts were easier to understand. Are you using some sort of Cane Toad Code?
Well done to all 3 NSW teams who won their matches, last nights women's match was a great spectacle.

One of the worst days to have to be on night shifts, State of origin. Anyway, that's how the cards fell for this match and I have made some changes to my normal routine to ensure I have the best chance to see the match.
I hope you all enjoy a great spectacle that is not overruled by the ref, can anyone tell me who the ref is?

Hi All,
Just arrived back on Bribie after doing a 5000k trip through central Qld up to Cairns and back. Spent around $1000 on diesel (or probably more) worst was $2.50 a litre just north of Rockhampton. Won't be doing that again soon. Just home in time to watch SoO 2.

Well played NSW, a superb effort with the series on the line. Gee it's good to crawl out from the deep dark crevices and shine as a cockroach.
I did warn you all they are survivors and have an amazing tenacity for life and the sweet taste of victory.
These are the times that make living in Queensland bearable, great victory tonight for which us NSW supporters will certainly enjoy.
Rocket, are you out there mate, you have suddenly dropped off the radar, mate the shops are closed, you won't be able to buy a NSW jumper until about 9 am tomorrow.
Christine- thanks for the info on the referee.

Afternoon Tiger.
I'm not one for a lot of overdone banter in SoO, but I'll give you some support Champ.
The Blues came out in the second half, full of extra reason to go on with it. Take nothing from Qld, but we'll need to keep an extra eye on Munster, as he can pop up anywhere and turn a pass as quick as a light. Can be a cheeky little dude at times. Teddy added extra with his yardage and just impressed to the others to get into it. Jake was back and he pressed forward hard and added the thrust for others to run off. Again Cleary had a big showing and Burtons high torpedo kicks were a sight used to pressure advantage - on most occasions he put the Qld'ers on the defensive. Kaufusi cant argue with his sin-binning, as it was two of them doing the holding down. Just that he got the earlier rest (maybe for holding down the longest) prior to half time. Kline was in a mixed mode, but it was Cameron Smith who said he had a great game in Game 1. So we'll head across to Suncorp for the decider and that should also be a sell-out. So nice to see Optus Stadium in Perth packed. It sure reminds me of elite European Stadiums. Maybe even give it the name of The Coliseum!
Cheers mate & keep well.

Afternoon Mary - but they did combine well and shows the morale that Panthers club has.
Interesting game at yours in Round 16. It should be the Sunday afternoon televised match due to Qld player involvement from State of Origin 2.
Gives both teams an extra recovery day - although it is 6 days from yesterday.
Keep well

The 6 agains can break a team ... particularly if there are a run of them. NSW received four in a short period during the first half, plus the sin binning.
QLD got one 6 again in the entire game, and it was in the 77th minute.
Maybe NSW werent slowing the ruck down, but their coach did say they would be doing exactly that after game one.
Anyhoo...I can't change the result and neither can anyone else.
Onto game three we go.
Submitted by mark ashford on
My only comment about SoO 2 is that referee assistance can change any game and a send off in origin is rare. Now doubt the blues were the better side in the second half with the assistance of ref Klein.
Bring on game 3 in Suncorp and can we please have the grasshopper back.
Submitted by The Thinker on
I should add that NSW were probably going to win anyway...I just feel like they didn't need a leg up.

Howdy Steely - been about and Facebooking as well. Since I opened an account there, the history of the area and q&a's have been flowing thick.
Got a load of sport coming up with The Games and World Cup this year. Also a new UK EPL Comp starting in August. So its a bit full on to get my fixtures ready. But overall mate, managing to stay upright with all those medico's we tend to need to see when we pass that magic 60 number. Plus its bloody freezing up this way. Predicted to be minus4 in the morning here. Hope u r well mate and happy to see The Warriors land back in Shaky Isles to play their season out.
Take care Buddy, keep in touch and keep well.
Big Pete in Bx Country.
