Round five selections

Canterbury Bulldogs vs Brisbane Broncos – Thursday night – ANZ Stadium

If the media are to be believed we have two unhappy camps here, as speculation mounts that two of the most respected coaches in the game are struggling to keep their teams together. In a role where getting sacked seems to happen every other week, Bennett (30 years) and Hasler (13 years) have never lost their job. That speaks volumes. It looks like Hasler is under the most scrutiny at the minute, given the Bulldogs start to the season and that bafflingly poor performance against the Sea Eagles in round four. Perhaps the Bulldogs want to snap up Ivan Cleary before the Tigers get their claws on him. We will wait and see. If the Broncos are unhappy they aren't playing that way, with wins or very narrow losses against the top four teams from 2016. Every game they've been involved in has been the highest quality of rugby league we've seen in the round. They've lost as many games as they've won, but they look like contenders again in 2017. Their best seventeen will take to the field on Thursday, while Matt Frawley slots in for Moses Mbye in the halves for the Dogs. The Dogs failed to trouble the scoreboard attendant against the Sea Eagles and the Broncos are a sterner test than that. If they want Hasler as their coach they'll compete and lose, and if they don't this is a gap job. Des deserves an effort – let's hope we get one.

Verdict – Broncos by 8

Result – Bulldogs 10 defeated Broncos 7

Sydney Roosters vs Manly Sea Eagles – Friday night – Allianz Stadium

In the last two weeks the Sea Eagles have scored 66 points and conceded only 8 against competitive opposition. I can't get a read on that form but I can't ignore it either. That said, Friday night is a true test. The Chooks sit at the top of the table, and appear to have regained the swagger that saw the tri-colours win three successive minor premierships. Jake Friend, Blake Ferguson and Kane Evans are named on the extended bench but whether they all make the final seventeen remains to be seen. The tricolours just look too good to me, but we better keep an eye on this game just in case the Sea Eagles are the real deal.

Verdict – Roosters by 4

Result – Sea Eagles 18 defeated Roosters 12

North Queensland Cowboys vs South Sydney Rabbitohs – Friday night – 1300SMILES Stadium

Jason Tenmillionolo returns for the Cowboys and adds some much-needed beef to the pack. The last time he laced on the boots he ran for 231 metres and played for 87 minutes. He's come a long way from the promising youngster that was good for 10 minute bursts here and there. It sounds like a lot of money, and let's be honest it bl00dy well is, but he's probably worth it. Lachlan Coote is back too, and while his inclusion isn't quite as important, it does complete one of the best spines (1,6,7 and 9) in the NRL. Their last performance at home was one to forget. On Friday night I expect they'll give the people up north a performance to remember.

Verdict – Cowboys by 16

Result – Cowboys 20 defeated Rabbitohs 6

Cronulla Sharks vs Newcastle Knights – Saturday afternoon – Southern Cross Group Stadium

I fear the Knights have peaked already, and for them peaking was about half a kilometre short of base camp and a long way from the pointy end of Everest. They never looked likely against the Panthers and I'm expecting a very similar result here.

Verdict – Sharks by 30

Result – Sharks 19 defeated Knights 18

Canberra Raiders vs Parramatta Eels – Saturday afternoon – GIO Stadium

Before this season kicked off I spent some time reading tea leaves and poking at the entrails of a small animal, and on the back of that research I predicted that the Eels were a top four team this season. Now I may be sexy and popular with the ladies, but I'm also humble enough to admit that occasionally, once or twice a season, I get things wrong. Perhaps I was poking around inside the wrong animal – that can happen to the best of us. Well I'm not too proud to admit that I am the best of us and I was wrong. The Raiders on the other hand are giving their all, and my top two prediction is still within the realms of possible. Now the Eels may very well give us their best performance this season and if they do they'll be winning and I'll be wrong (again), but until such time as they bring consistent football week in and week out they are making up the numbers. They've fooled me twice...they shan't be fooling me thrice. Now...where did I leave that bandicoot?

Verdict – Raiders by 14

Result – Raiders 30 defeated Eels 18

Melbourne Storm vs Penrith Panthers – Saturday night – AAMI Park

Plenty of people will be thinking of tipping the Panthers on Saturday night, and I don't blame them for a minute. But there is one important statistic you need to remember above all others – the Panthers have never won a game at AAMI Park. Sure they've been competitive at times, they've even been a touch unlucky a few times, but they never win. Tipping is about finding the winner, so the winner is...

Verdict – Storm by 7

Result – Storm 28 defeated Panthers 6

New Zealand Warriors vs Gold Coast Titans – Sunday afternoon – Mt Smart Stadium

Last week I pointed out that Foran was named for the Warriors but almost certainly wouldn't play (and that the Dragons were specials). This weekend he's been named again, and although our potato friend has doubts I'm quite certain he will play this time. That doesn't make the Warriors specials, because they never are, but I am tipping them for once. This is just their second game at Mt Smart for the season, and their first was played in apocalyptic conditions against the Storm. This is easier.

Verdict – Warriors by 10

Result – Warriors 28 defeated Titans 22

Wests Tigers vs St George Illawarra Dragons – Sunday afternoon – ANZ Stadium

Note the neutral venue tipsters, negating any advantage the Tigers may have gained if this game were taking place at Leichhardt or Campbelltown. The Tigers showed some spirit last start before the ever-professional Storm pulled away when it counted. That was better, but can they repeat the effort, and even then, is that enough? Littlejohn moves into the halves in the absence of Brooks while the Dragons name the same side that won convincingly over the Warriors. If you shop around you can get $1.80 for the Dragons and that's good shopping. Shop responsibly.

Verdict – Dragons by 8

Result – Dragons 28 defeated Tigers 6

Hello everyone, my tips for this week are:

Broncos by 10- Bulldogs will be wanting to bounce back from their horrific 36-0 loss to Manly. But, I think that the Broncos will be too good for the Bulldogs here.

Roosters by 4- Roosters to remain undefeated but only just. Manly to really give it to the Roosters.

Cowboys by 14- Cowboys to win and win quite convincingly over the Rabbitohs. Cowboys do welcome back Coote and Taumalolo which are a huge boost for the Cowboys.

Sharks by 26- Ah, the Knights, getting back to their bad habit of getting absolutely smashed. They'll get smashed again here.

Raiders by 8- This will be a cracking game. I think that the Raiders will come away with the win here at home.

Storm by 2- The Panthers' misery in Melbourne will continue here, Storm to win in a thrilling contest.

Warriors by 12- Warriors back at Mount Smart. Foran making his debut for the Warriors. Warriors are in bad form, but back at Mount Smart, they'll come away with the win over the Titans here.

And finally... the mighty Dragons by 16- Hey, the Dragons are playing on Sunday afternoon this week. We'll march on here with a big win over the Tigers who should I say, played with plenty of spirit last Sunday against the Storm.

Awesome. Good luck with everyone's teams this week and for everyone's tips this week. Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry SmileyGuy my thoughts were misdirected in the en heat of that moment.

It would show though, that not a one, came to my defence when Mark thought it was somehow impossible for me to be an Australian, because I stood up for players who came here as toddlers. What a sad mindset that is. Sad that it's the mindset of most Australians that skin colour determines if you are Aussie or not.

Otherwise, I observe so many who just can't cop a razz.
christine many a time has had a big old will because I said something about Souths, and same with Mark and his Broncos. Couldn't cop a razz.

Are these the heros and role models of this page?
I would hate to think so.

Hello Mr Coach Potato, hey let's not get to tied up on Symantics of the message content here. How about we just all hold hands, look up at the sky and just sing..... here Mr Coach Potato, I'll kick it off.....Kumbaya my Lord, kumbaya
Kumbaya my Lord, kumbaya
Kumbaya my Lord, kumbaya
Oh Lord, kumbaya.....over to you for the next verse now my learned friend Mr Coach Potato. You can even do it in Soprano if you like. Remember what Cervantes quoted: He who sings, scares away his woes. Cheers From Mr Awesome

Coach Potato's picture

Ok. That deserves all rules to be broken and Mr Awesome sentenced to immediate cyber-strangulation.

Back to it, two months til Origin and set to be the most intriguing game one in years.

Origin hopeful matchups aplenty in the Storm Panthers game. Moylan-Slater, Smith-Wallace, Cronk-Cleary. I think the winner of this game may well help show which State is currently on top.

Not to mention obligatory bragging rights between myself and one Mexican.

Bring it on.
Bring it.
On.

mark ashford's picture

OK that is enough rubbish from Coach.
When did I say "it was impossible for you to be an Australian because players came here as toddlers"
Come on Coach why don't you ever admit you are wrong.
You take on Thinker and many other posters here but refuse to accept you are wrong.
Let me tell you are wrong many times, particularly when you rant about racism.
Believe it or not Coach most Australians hate racism but you seem to call it out as often as you can.
Again I ask what is your problem?
You love NSW and I love QLD that's where it should end.

Christine
I decided to leave this site except for tipping because of Coach's continuous putting down other posters on this site.
Coach seems to think he is an NRL expert and dislikes anyone else who posts here.
Chris I have been here with you, "a", the guru' and others since Thinker started the site and am a bit sorry someone has tried to take it over.
However as an original I have decided to try and keep this site as it was originally planned by Thinker.
I will post my tips and try to keep Coach under control.
Coach is a bully and a fool.
Everyone is welcome to post, just keep it nice.

Coach Potato's picture

Forgot to close that door behind you huh?
Was for all the world like I heard it slam pretty good.

Please don't come back thinking you have a mission to change me.

Love me or loathe me. Each to their own and you are totally free to choose.

I know stereotypes of what we see on the surface can be quite ingrained without us even knowing, and can often skew people's views. Can lead to us to prejudge others.

But could be interesting to some to know I don't actually carry an ounce of fat on me, never have, and spend less time on the couch than probably most of you. My monicker is more a play on the opposite of who I am than anything.

Hopefully that spins a head or two.

mark ashford's picture

"a" and "tailspin" and your families.
You may not read this tonight because of the power failures, but when you do please know we are thinking of you and sincerely hope you are all safe.

mark ashford's picture

Ah Coach, so you claim you are not a 'fatty" on the coach?
Never thought you were.
Just a pain in the arse when it comes to other peoples posts on this site.
Did it ever occur to you to be "nice" or is that something you don't understand.
You know a little bit of "niceness" goes a long way.

Coach Potato's picture

First comment back does not sound great that I get called a fool and bully. I don't think I'm either. More than a touch hypocritical re. your expectations from everyone -.or are you exempt?

I don't believe in backward steps and I don't take prisoners. I don't think that equals bully.
(And I'm entitled to my opinion right? )

mark ashford's picture

Coach you deny "bullying", perhaps you should go back and read some of your posts.
Rocket and Padbul would disagree, as would I.
Anyway Coach you are on notice that I'm back and will be keeping an eye on you and your NSW rubbish.
Just kidding of course, looking forward to NSW v QLD.

Coach Potato's picture

Surely Rocket, padbul, Tailspin, doggie, voyeur, Steel Panther, and Thinker give as good as they get. I cop it from all quarters don't I?

In all of that, trying to work out how I am the bully and everyone else and what they say is all good, is quite a bit harder to understand than quantum physics. A fair bit.

What do you folk are some of the reasons certain teams are liked or disliked. I started disliking Brisbane after the 1993 grand final when Alfie sang that song after beating the Dragons. I disliked all the teams that went to super league back in 1997 and only supported the the original ARL clubs. I disliked Canterbury when their crowds were being bullies. Didn't like Cronulla when Gallen was younger. Felt they were a tad thugerish. Didn't like Melbourne with their arrogance after the cheating scandal. Now, in my older age, I actuallylike all the teams. I'm a Dragons man no.1 and Raiders are my no.2 team, but ultimately I just love footy and want to see them all play. I'm a NSW Welshman but I don't dislike the Queenslanders in footy. Can't help but respect even if we do have to beat the team and the refs when we play them. Remember Barry Gomersall? There would have been a lot nooses in his family tree. Refs helping the Qld team to win goes back a long way, it's just more subtle these days. Cheers all from Mr Awesome

christine's picture

Coach your not worth the effort i'm not the person that's against mark or anyone else being on this site but enough is enough it's getting boring & I don't follow souths now so get your facts straight I don't actually follow any team this season at all .

The Thinker's picture

Alright football fans.

I can't believe I'm saying this but lets lay off the potato cake for a while. I'm sure he's big enough and starchy enough to look after himself but we don't have to gang tackle him relentlessly. I know he can be a pain sometimes, but prodding him with a stick will make him more painful...not less.

Coach,

Perhaps you could have a think about the way you disagree with others. You do have a tendency to play the man (or woman) rather than the ball when you have a different point of view to other people. And try and tip some bl00dy winners for goodness sake. You're a raging hot favourite for back to back wooden spoons at the minute.

Mark A,

It's great to have you back. I still miss Guru Craig I must say. He knows the game and he loves the game. He does visit the site regularly...just doesn't comment anymore.

christine's picture

I take that back I do support qld

Mr Thinker you truly are the wisest.

Coach Potato's picture

Donald Trump president and Thinker sees my point of view (kind of) - all within the space of a couple of months. Amazing planetary alignment happening.

Thank you though. It's not like I wouldn't keep swatting bad balls to the boundary Bradman style, but it is nice to hear. If people want they can take the Thinker to task now, so go ahead. Not bloody likely. How ironic that there be a real sense of the real bullies getting told off here.

Thinker, I will use a tighter rein, but still I think that having a joke when someone's team loses, beating your chest when your team wins, and copping it when your team goes down, is as Aussie as meat pies.
I didn't invent any of this shit. It's been going on for over a hundred years. All I am doing is upholding longstanding rugby league tradition. All some others want is say bugger the past 100 years.

As for tipping, you will find I'm on course for a three-peat. I'm well on track.

christine's picture

''a'' When you do see this comment I hope your family home didn't get any structural damage & apart from a lot of mess to clean up everything is ok for you & your family , you just experienced something a lot of people will never experience in their life & now you know just how intense nature can be ...

Coach Potato's picture

When Desy came out pre-season and said his Dogs would play with a new attacking style, I was impressed.

Mostly because it was a tribute to the Panthers attack that tore the Dogs apart in September that would show as the pre-cursor.

Through the off season I also had a feeling that the Panthers of 2016 would start having influence on some other teams this year. My personal feeling is the Dragons are also taking a leaf or two out of the same book.

Only problem for the Dogs is, the ad-lib style just does not suit them one bit. Told to play "hot-potato", instead they only know how to play "hand grenades". Time and time again the player taking it to the line hestitates out of their sheer confusion, and it all ends up a mess.
The other big difference between Penrith and Canterbury is confidence. Dogs just don't have any. Unstructured play can't succeed without that air of confidence.

What Desy needs to do is bite the bullet and re-introduce structure. It's what the team knows best. Throwing the ball from one wing to the other isn't going to break Brisbane down. Structured attack doesn't easily break Bennett's defensive patterns either. But they are a damn sight better chance, playing structured, than unstructured.

newbie from perth's picture

Hi everyone,

Firstly a question for Johnny Ray. What the hell is your new avatar all about? I guess it’s a “Warrior” of sorts but can you possibly divulge the origins of said avatar my friend? Just grabbed off the net or did you create in Photoshop or something similar? Is that a man-bob he’s wearing? Secondly, will we still have 2 unbeaten sides after this weekend or will one (or possibly both) have their winning runs nipped in the bud? My BBB face off with a currently in-form Manly while this week’s “blockbuster” sees the Storm and Panthers lock horns. Newbie’s a bit cheesed off that the Nine Network don’t show Saturday games so will have keep checking the score online during the night. Dagnabit! OK, let’s get into it…

Bulldogs vs Broncos
What’s happened to the Doggies? Current formlines are a worry. The only decent effort I’ve seen was against my BBB and then to lose to Manly last week by that embarrassing 36-0 scoreline does not instil much confidence. The Broncos on the other hand have done pretty well, even with those close ones. After last week’s effort against the Raiders and taking into account their strong defence, I’m thinking the Broncos have this one covered. They might not win by much but they will win. If you want to “gamble responsibly”, a Broncos fan at work suggested I back them for first points scorer. Went and did some research and it seems the Broncos have scored first in all of their games this year and in 18 of their 24 last year! The TAB over here in the West is showing $1.65 for said occurrence. Might just have a small flutter on that.

Sydney Roosters vs Manly
My BBB unbeaten so far but I must admit Manly’s form in the last 2 weeks has me worried. I’m still scratching my head on how they managed to knock off the Cowboys and back that up by flogging the poor ol’ Doggies. I’m banking on the BBB delivering more of what they’ve shown in the first 4 rounds and getting the job done. I honestly believe we have an edge in class and our defence will stand up. That plus the Manly bubble has to burst sooner or later surely. Go you Mighty Roosters!

Cowboys vs Rabbitohs
Jason Taumalolo returns for the Cowboys I think so that should help. Even with their injuries, they’re not doing that bad. They weren’t perfect last week against the Titans but a win is a win. Back home at 1300Smiles will obviously be a big advantage. Souths managed just six points last week and look a bit average to me at the moment. I’m thinking the Cowboys should win this one fairly easily.

Sharks vs Knights
You would have to say this one is a no-brainer wouldn’t you? The Knights started the season fairly well and then ruined it all by getting absolutely smacked last week, courtesy of the Panthers. Plus, they haven’t won away from home in the last 12 months! The future does not bode well for the Knights in Shining Armour! The Sharkies at home will get the job done, and done easily.

Raiders vs Eels
The Raiders are a lot better than their win-loss suggests I reckon. Two heartbreaking losses obviously hurt but from what I saw on TV last week, I’m liking these boys a lot. Baggy’s BOYS have sort of gone off the boil as it were and I’m a bit confused on how to read their “form”. The points they’ve leaked in the last 2 weeks would be a concern too. Given their win-loss record, I reckon the Vikings will be more desperate to get the 2 points and should win this by at least 8 points.

Storm vs Panthers
The Storm Troopers are also undefeated thanks largely to their awesome comeback last week against the Tigers. I actually thought they were “gawn”. The bollickin’ a fired up Bellamy gave them in the sheds at half time obviously did the trick. They’re gonna have their hands full with the Panthers this week. Unlucky against my BBB and a worrying sign for the Storm is that the Panthers have only let in 16 points in their last three matches. Could this be the week we see the Storm Troopers lose their perfect record? Easily the game of the round but who am I gonna tip? I’ve hummed and ha’d about this one all night and changed my mind 3 times so far. Based on teams played and being at AAMI, Newbie is leaning ever so slightly towards the Storm. Not confident by any stretch of the imagination and wouldn’t be surprised if the Panthers got up. But I gotta pick someone so I’ll go the Storm in this one.

Warriors vs Titans
The Warriors are doin’ my head in Johnny! Definitely can’t work ‘em out. Their defence is all over the place. The Titans on the other hand impressed me a couple of weeks ago and by all accounts showed enough against the Cowboys last week for me to keep the faith. I’m tipping the Titans to just get up in this one.

Tigers vs Dragons
The Dragons have gone back-to-back with wins over the Sharks and Warriors while the Tigers have lost their last three. Last week I thought they were a real chance to upset the Storm but their second half was atrocious. The Tigers’ record at ANZ isn’t the best either so I’ll go with the Dragons to get up here.

OK kids, good luck with your tipping and may your team win by 40 points! Until next week people. Cheers.

P.S. If you put a chameleon in a room full of mirrors, what colour would it turn? Hmmm…

Coach Potato's picture

Hey Newbie

Talking of streaks, I will break it down on Sunday but my theory on Round 5 is about to be revealed.

The one that says the top4 after Round 5 are 90% chance of playing semis, and bottom4 after Round 5 are 90% chance of not playing semis.

Mathematically obvious that Roosters and Storm are on this list already.
Second last 2016, semis 2017. Its all but dusted with still 22 Rounds to go.

Here is last years Round 5 lists:

1.Broncos - tick. Finished 5th
2.Storm - tick. Finished Minor Premier
3.Raiders - tick. Finished 2nd (up from 10th in 2015)
4.Cowboys - tick. Finished 4th

13.Sea Eagles - tick. Finished 13th
14.Dragons - tick.
Finished 11th
15.Knights - tick. Finished 16th
16.Roosters - tick. Finished 15th.

Looking like the Dragons and Cowboys are set to claim the other spots by week's end, although should one or both falter, there's plenty of teams who could sneak in.

Of the current bottom4, Bulldogs, Warriors, Knights, and Tigers. Any could jump out of the bottom4 with a win. Else its look on September.
22 more weeks of nothing to look forward to. I wonder if Desy fully realises the enormity of tonight's game. My guess is, he doesn't.

Coach Potato's picture

Foran's birth certificate still only says 26.
Facially, would seem he's had a tough 26 years.
Bodily, he's a bit busted too.

This chronic hamstring thing. Not to mention the busted shoulder which ended 2016 in just week 12.

Physio pages tell that once an athlete develops hamstring problems, they always remain. The athlete will be slower, the hip flexor range of motion will be less (not able to stride out fully), the strength of the muscle will be less, the risk of re-injury will be greater.

2015 injures hamstring - Round 1 playing for Manly
2016 spends much of preseason in doubt before joining Parra. Limited ability to train.
2017 same deal. Its week 5 now and he's not a done deal to run out.

Even if he does make the field, he is only a twinge away from not finishing the game. Your #6 out for the game is usually a big blow.

Titans just moved from $2.75 into $2.65.
I think punters just heard a little twinge.

Coach Potato's picture

Nathan Cleary remembers only too well his visit to Melbourne last year.
It was his NRL debut. He was #6, with Soward #7.

Panthers went down and after just one game, Soward had seen enough of his partner, and duely handed over his jumper.

Cleary played the rest of the season winning 10 from 14. If he'd debuted any earlier, I think the Panthers were a top 4 certainty.

So here he comes back to where it all started, but remember he wasn't in charge. He was #6.

This week, he calls the shots.
A 19 year old with unfinished business.
You gotta shake your head at that is the case, but it's true.

Tailspin's picture

G"day everyone, hope all good,
Here are my tips
Broncos by 24
Roosters by 4
Cowboys by 36
Sharks by 30
Raiders by 10
Storm by 2
Warriors by 6
Dragons by 10
Coach, you being naughty again, give yourself 50 upper cuts and keep up the good work :)

Cmon people, its just a bit of fun, if you don't like what Coach says then don't reply, its that simple, but if you like a bit of banter, stick it to him, I'm sure he will enjoy it. They are just words on a screen.
Anyway, hope you all have a great weekend, I think we are going to get smashed by a heap of rain very shortly.
My brother copped some damage to his house in Bowen but all safe, better than poor Collinsville people, they got hammered.

Johnny Awesome's picture

In my view the Bulldogs look like they've been rode hard and put away wet. The players look tired and let's face it, the Morris are getting on and getting a lot slower. They were the cornerstone of Canterbury's strike power. Not sure who is to blame for recruitment but I don't think it's all Dessies fault. The Bulldogs are still as dangerous as a cut snake but are not a top contender in their current state. On the other hand Paying a million bucks a year for a coach, I suppose you would expect more than just a finals birth. If they eight spot that still makes them average over 16 teams. Lastly, they'll have some definite upsets this year, this Brisbane game could be one. Brisbane have had a tough 4 rounds, could be the week they drag the axle but I'm still not brace enough to tip against them. Sorry for typos the bus ride iIm on is a tad bumpy Cheers from Mr Awesome

Coach Potato's picture

Thanks Tailspin. You get it.
I think yourself, Rocket, tigerholic, and Thinker get it.

Bloody oathe. If my Panthers go down I expect others to rip in. Give it everything. Its all good fun.

When shoe is on the other foot though, and the taunts are about others teams and come from my mouth, please don't take it as anything but the same. It's not bullying. It's not written by a fool.

Thinker's last post clearly shows where he thinks the bullying behaviour is coming from. Laugh riot.

Coach Potato's picture

Dogs are playing like there is no plan. Just throw it around.

That surely wasn't their own idea, but something the were told to do. Throw it around and see what happens. Hasler is where the buck stops.

He was the one who said there would be a new attacking style, but what he has produced is a rabble. Its akin to Bart Simpson's Treasure Island book report.

He needs to change it back and fast. It was good enough to make the semis last year. Keep up with the willy-nilly stuff, and he'll be out the door in two weeks.

Johnny Awesome's picture

I still reckon you do a great rendition of Kumbaya Mr Coach Potato ????

Johnny Awesome's picture

Yep it all stops with Des in the end. It will be an interesting game Des on 1k a year vs Bennet 1.25k a year. Battle of the coaches as well as Broncos v Bulldogs Cheers Mr Awesome

As a couple have said, I dont get why those that don't like to converse with coach don't just ignore him... I haven't made my mind up yet! :)

My weather forecast says heavy rain at the ANZ stadium for bulldogs - broncos. Can anyone confirm this looks like it may be the case! Need to have a winning bet when I wake up in the morning and if its wet I shall be going low on the points!

pabdul's picture

hey gary
i live basically across the road from anz in the former Olympic village. its very dark and about to piss down. heavy showers and low scoring for sure.

GaryChesterUK's picture

Cheers Pabdul.

The bookies are going over/under 33.5 points, which I think is pretty much where it should be given the weather. I have decided to go with Bronco's HT/Bronco's FT at 2.00.

Just out of interest, do many of you guys bet on the NRL? As the Thinker would advise, do gamble responsibly but I do like a little flutter here and there!

pabdul's picture

ive been with sportsbet since 2001 .i took half/full-time at 1.90 and took broncos-6.5 at 1.93
dogs u/7s kicking game will have them traped in their own half.

GaryChesterUK's picture

Ha! I hope you are right!

I have accounts with a fair few bookies over here, using Spreadex for my bet as they are best priced. If it wins sets me up for a nice bet on Super League tomorrow night!

Goodness me. Usually I like it when things are a little wet but this is too much. Stay dry people.

Yeah I'm in Chester, funnily enough I only changed my Avatar an hour ago and was planning on it being a pic of the eastgate clock but found one of the cross first (Another chester landmark!) - I'll change it soon and bring back a few memories for you!

Not had the pleasure of Harrow unfortunately but do get to London lots. I have a few friends in Syndney, Melbourne and Perth, but haven't been over to Australia myself yet! too hot for me!

1st To Score Update:

Just checked the WA TAB while checking emails here at work (ha-ha) and the Broncos have drifted from $1.65 to $1.68 so I might jump on this one. Might not sound much to some people but to me it's 68% clear profit for god-knows how many minutes work. And all tax-free! I'm more about the challenge of winning and feeling smug when I take money from them. But hey, it could all turn pear-shaped and then who'd be laughin' eh? I'm off to make a coffee and do some microwaved scrambled eggs for my brekkie. Cheers people!

Giddy Folks
Got sent home from work due to the sever weather event in the South East, I hope everyone stays safe and recovers from what material damage may affect you.
I have to say that Coach does a great job of pissing people off, thats what he wants to do. He presents and supports his views, I really don't think he has any aim at attacking anyone on a personal level. I enjoy the way he goes about his work, obviously he has sucked a few in or as they say"hook line and sinker".
For goodness sake, don't respond to his posts if you feel that he may fire a shot over the bow that you don't like.
For me Coachy Boy, keep on keeping on old mate, I have no issues.
I have my tips in, I have decided that this week is the week that I close the gap to the leaders, Dogs and Eels as my two upsets.

Enjoy the footy
