The 2020 NRL tipping competition

Greetings football fans. For those of you that disappeared for the off-season...welcome back.

I'm saddling up again for another year of tipping and happiness. Why wouldn't I? It's pretty cool. Anyone that tipped throughout season 2019 is eligible to play again. When I say throughout, I do mean throughout - that means most (but not all) of you on the 2019 leaderboard can play again if you are keen to have another go.

NOTE: The 2020 NRL tipping competition is now closed to new entrants. Also note that those who participated last year are included again this year (if you wish).

To create an account, just click on the 'sign in' or 'register' links at the top right of the screen, then select 'Create New Account' and follow the steps. It's not too tricky.

I will hold a spot for you in the interim.

Prizes

There will be prizes for our top three tipsters and a few random prizes throughout the season, but I'll provide more details on the prizes in the weeks ahead.

The top three also get their name etched on the Honour Board and the recognition you deserve.

Questions

If anyone has any questions about the competition or anything else, feel free to ask in the comments section below. The season kicks off on Thursday 12th March.

Not a hope Les, if Parra taught Judas anything he would have integrity, loyalty and be a stand up guy. The reason I rate Steve so highly is he's a one club man, same as Corey. Those guys are the greatest, men who remain loyal. It is good to see them hold records, but they also bind the members and create a great team. I have no problems with those guys getting a pay day over in super league at the end of their career, but guys who jump from club to club searching for a bigger payday just irk me.

Hello everyone,

Three more days to go! It's going to be an awesome season. Hopefully it can be a tight season filled with plenty of unpredictability. Before I start my tips, which I'll do either tomorrow or Wednesday, I would like to make predictions of the ladder for this year, state of origin men and women, Grand Final prediction, Dally M medals including captain of the year, coach of the year, team of the year, dally m medallist, Women's player of the year, and rep player of the year, top point scorer, top try scorer, premiers, minor premiers, wooden spoon and Clive Churchill.

So my prediction for the ladder this season is:

1. Raiders
2. Roosters
3. Rabbitohs
4. Storm
5. Eels
6. Sea Eagles
7. Bulldogs
8. Knights
9. Broncos
10. Sharks
11. Cowboys
12. Dragons
13. Panthers
14. Warriors
15. Tigers
16. Titans
(I've got the top 4 the exact same as last years except the Raiders and Storm are flipped, I've got a similar top 8 except I've got the Bulldogs and Knights making it and the Broncos and Sharks to miss out and I've got my Dragons finishing 12th, this is probably my best hope for us, I can't see us finishing any higher than 10th to be honest, one can only hope!)

My state of origin predictions are:

Men's - NSW with a whitewash win over Qld 3-0
Women's - If it's a series, NSW winning 2-1 but if it's a one-off origin game, then I've got Qld winning it.

My Grand Final prediction is:

Raiders vs Storm

My prediction for Dally M medallist is Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad

My prediction for Dally M captain of the year is Jarrod Crocker

My prediction for Dally M coach of the year is Trent Robinson

My prediction for Dally M team of the year is:

Fullback of the year: Charnze Nicoll-Kolkstad
Winger of the year: Suliasi Vunivalu
Centre of the year: Jarrod Crocker
Five-Eigth of the year: Luke Keary
Halfback of the year: Adam Reynolds
Prop of the year: Jarryd Waera-Hargreaves
Hooker of the year: Cameron Smith
Second Row of the year: Elliot Whitehead
Lock of the year: Jake Trbojevic
Interchange player of the year: Nat Butcher

My prediction for Dally M Women's player of the year is Jessica Sergis

My prediction for Dally M rep player of the year is James Tedesco

My prediction for top point scorer this season is Jarrod Crocker

My prediction for top try scorer this season is Suliasi Vunivalu

My prediction for premiers this season is the Raiders

My prediction for minor premiers this season is the Raiders

My prediction for Wooden Spooners this season is the Titans

And finally... My prediction for Clive Churchill medallist this season is Josh Papalii

It's great to be back for another season! Good luck with everyone for your tips this year! And good luck with everyone's teams for this year! Cheers!!!!

Don't be reluctant to say you support Manly. They are a great club with plenty of good history. I think the "silvertails" days are well and truly behind us. When you get the other Triboyavic (never could spell that) brother back you'll be a team to be feared especially at home. Besides that you'll have one of our favourites in BIG PETE in your camp.

True enough, it takes a special person to stay at one club and often that means not earning as much as they could elsewhere. Especially when most have a ten year career at best. Of course not all have the option to stay as the clubs can be just as ruthless. I remember Fatty Vautin was gutted when he was forced to leave Manly and end his career with the Roosters.

Definitely expecting big things from the
Manly lads once we get our full contingent on the park. Nice to have another supporter in the ranks, going on last years scorecard Big Pete looks like he is a serious player.

Dragons Fan Boy
Nice to see you back here! Interesting set of predictions, interesting because there are no QLD players or clubs included. Cam Smith got a mention but he is of course a Storm player and no longer a Maroon.
Correct me if I'm wrong but also no mention of your Dragons. Does this mean you have given up on the red & whites without a ball being thrown. It's early days mate so don't write your club off just yet.

Yes mate Big Pete is a serious player (think he ran 2nd last year) and a passionate Manly man. Not sure how long you have followed this site but we had a guy called "fortress" a while back who would have to be the most passionate Manly supporter I've ever encountered. So much so he had regular stouches with other tipsters but had a problem with punctuation making his posts hard to read or understand. I felt for him as he may have struggled with basic English but there was no doubting his passion. If you're reading this Fortress, I wish you well.

Know this is not footy but can anyone tell me why the whole country has gone on a toilet paper rampage? As far as I know coronsvirus has no effect on your rear end. Are these people intending to spend heaps of time on the loo hoping to s--t away the virus? Honestly this sort of behaviour makes me think some people should not be allowed to breed.

a's picture

Yeah people need to stop overreacting and buying toliet paper

The whole TP think is strange indeed. Although we are getting a bit low now ourselves...I was in a restaurant on the weekend and they had fancy paper napkins and I gotta say I was thinking to myself “Mmmm smoooth”.

Les Boyd's Elbow's picture

MARK

Well I’m glad you said that about punctuation. Now I’m not mentioning this because Fortress is a fellow Manly comrade but I have been trying to understand some other posts on here and sometimes I think I need the Enigma Machine to decode what is being said. Now Christine I am sure you have a lot more runs on the board in this chat feed than me and you probably have a lot of respect amongst your fellow tipsters but I defy anyone that can say...
“Worst birthday i have ever had i haven't even heard frim my family only my father wgo is off to Thailand bext week he was going too go on mg birthday to Thailand but i told him i would never forgive him he did that last year on my birthday says it is not forvthevobvious reason but they do stay in the red light district all 10 of them & sure i beleive that it is not or that reason re in regards to me i just pit my tips in the comment section that is my choice that is all i want too do thevreason i pur my tips in the comments section is becausevof coach he complained so thats why that started so u will just continue doingvthst that is fine with me i am notvtaking up a space on the ladder if someonecwants to kerp tabs on my tips that is there choice but i am not in horriblebofthe tipping comp i may go in "a" a game comp but that is all i don't even have the fox this year to watch it only follow live scores but it is better than nothing”
...in one breath.

Walby's picture

Hi All,
Me and the Family are heading to the Gold Coast next week to have a holiday with the in laws and have bought Tickets to Titans V Eels match at CBUS Stadium.
We don't get many NRL games each year in Darwin, 1 normally and its on a repainted AFL field a mile from the Grand Stand, so we are all looking forward to the game.
Is there any word down that way of games being postponed or restricted crowd access due to Covid 19 fears?
Thanks Walby.
PS. I hope my pronunciation and grammer was right Les Boyd's Elbow!

Les Boyd's Elbow's picture

WALBY

Haha! In this era of texts and TLA's (Three Lettered Acronyms) grammer seems to be a bit of a lost art.
As far as i know there has been no restrictions yet due to the virus but i heard on the news this morning that NSW is responsible for half the cases so far. So watch this space.
