The off-season 2019-2020

Greetings football fans.

For those of you hoping to stay in touch between now and season 2020...here is the place to do so.

All things sport and anything else for that matter. There won't be a massive number of people around in the off season, but those that are usually pretty good value. I'll drop in from time to time myself, for what it's worth.

All the best.

Thanks Bigpete

I live in a country town called Laidley which is about half way from Brisbane to Toowoomba.

I think the Term Mental Health is a huge thing in this country and around the world. My psych diagnosed me with PTSD and knowing that actually helps a bit.

I think there is always some good that comes out of another persons issues, there is a form of motivation for someone else who thinks life has felt them an unfair hand.

This site has come together over the past few years as a big footy family.

Thanks again and I am sad to see Masters move on but it seems to be a huge issue with the Tigers. I have renewed my membership for 2019 hoping we can at least make the finals.

Take Care

@ Tiger

Nothing but respect for baring your soul mon frère. I know I don’t interact with you personally on here as much as others do but very impressed (humbled) with what you said earlier. Thankfully I don’t have such issues but know some that are doing it tough in that department so to speak. I’ve got a theory that all this is more prevalent these days due to how our society has progressed. Or should I say “regressed”? I too have no experience with what you’re going through and can’t offer any advice on how to deal with it other than keep seeing those professionals and stay positive 💪. Best of luck buddy…

I was thinking about songs I could put up here (as suggested by Mr Ashford) and this one popped into my head. Not wanting to sound too morbid but I have a list of songs I want played at my funeral (hopefully a long, long time from now) and this one is on said list. Not so much for the lyrics, but more because the melody and vocal delivery are just so much in sync. A perfect match in my opinion.

I wasn’t going to put the lyrics up but thought why not, this is the Off-Season page and maybe someone might wanna sing along 😍 Think I might be putting up a song each Thursday night. Yeah I know it’s Wednesday night (only just) but what the heck. I’ll start the Thursday night song post “officially” tomorrow night. Should be interesting…

Well, it's not far down to paradise
At least it's not for me
And if the wind is right you can sail away
And find tranquility
Oh, the canvas can do miracles
Just you wait and see
Believe me

It's not far to never-never land
No reason to pretend
And if the wind is right you can find the joy
Of innocence again
Oh, the canvas can do miracles
Just you wait and see
Believe me

Sailing takes me away
To where I've always heard it could be
Just a dream and the wind to carry me
and soon I will be free

Fantasy
It gets the best of me
When I'm sailing
All caught up in the reverie
Every word is a symphony
Won't you believe me?

Sailing takes me away
To where I've always heard it could be
Just a dream and the wind to carry me
and soon I will be free

Well it's not far back to sanity
At least it's not for me
And if the wind is right you can sail away
and find serenity
Oh, the canvas can do miracles
Just you wait and see
Believe me

Sailing takes me away
To where I've always heard it could be
Just a dream and the wind to carry me
and soon I will be free

Thanks Tiger. It crossed my mind that you may know her. She has been there for quite a number of years, but I don't remember exactly how many, and I'm certain it's not 24 years like you.
Look after yourself & keep on going to see your therapist. They know how to help you. BTW my Grandson is studying to be a counsellor. He's a good lad and I'm sure he'll be very good at his job.
Thinker, if you're reading this, would you please either give my email address to Tiger, or his to me.
Thanks, manyana.

Tiger, I just read what you said to Big Pete about living in Laidley, I used to be the Postmistress (is that allowed now?) at Grandchester, and I have friends who moved from Grandchester to Laidley.
That was in the 70's and we were there for the floods of '74.
Small world isn't it?
Bye for now, manyana.

manyana's picture

Hi Big Pete, I watched "the race" on Sunday, & some of the races on Saturday, and was on the edge of my seat for the last 10 minutes or so on Sunday.
Did you go, or do you do what I do when anything big is on at, or near Bribie, stay home & watch it on tv?
Player movement in the NRL is going to be very interesting this year, I think. It will also be interesting to see what the Broncos coach does, as he's said that no position is guaranteed next season.
Keep well, manyana.

Hi Newbie, lovely words, will check out the song on you tube.
Cheers, manyana.

Hello Manyana and nice hearing from you.
Hope u r well or better.
Hows things going over at Avondale Butchery?

I worked at Mt Pan (The Mount), for several years and loved the atmosphere. The atmosphere I love now is the race, what follows it and the celebrations we have down in CBD. I watch start of race and some in between and of course, the last hour or so of it.

NRL Player Movement will be very interesting. Any coach who sacrifices his better players and says "no position is guaranteed", is playing with fire, or toying with death and a possible awkward season.

That's happened before and opened the flood gates on some previous NRL players, who especially felt, that they'd be under the radar and sought to be on the market, for what might be going.
Lets also say, it opened the door for any dissatisfied players.
So be it, I'd let them go, before they start pulling rank, but......as a coach, I'd be making sure there are options out there to fill the void.

As I usually say and what Mark A calls my signature sign-off - Keep well!

Tiger,

Hang in there mate. You'll come good with the right support network. May take some time but if I could use an over used saying from the Warriors stable "keep the faith" and things will improve.

Better fly....have bags to pack for my flight tomorrow morning to the Sunshine Coast!!

Cheers

Newbie’s Thursday Night Banger…

Dunno, I think this one is just soooo smooth. Always been a huge fan of this fella. And you know I never say who it is because I want you to actually click on the link 😍 Enjoy (hopefully)! Cheers.

Good evening Newbie, smooth? Yes, a little strange?? Well it probably wouldn't be **** if it wasn't haha. So, to keep with the theme, I will add this one, not so smooth but quite fun! Maybe too fun for a Thursday night? I think I might even have to learn it on guitar! If your pick is smooth, this one is 'groovy' hehe.

Just had a listen to your (one of) 'funeral' song Newbie. Man you are quite keen on not leaving a single eye dry when you depart aren't you 😅

Very nice song, thanks for sharing 😊

sorry for the way my post came out what it comes down to is apparently I have gallstones & did not even know I have I have no pain so they are not even going to bother to do anything about it & it turns out I also have fatty liver so some changes will need to be made there & I am told by someone who has fatty liver that fatty liver can affect your immunity so it looks like I am in for a few more challenges to deal with than what I already have ...

Can we look forward to 2 SOTW from now on?
Cheers guys.

@ NuL1F3
Nice OSSOTW (Off-Season Song of the Week) post bro’. Yeah, that was a good one, remember it well. Loved the Michael Jackson impersonation at the end 😍

Mr Ashford’s asking if he can look forward to 2 x OSSOTW from now on. What do you reckon? I’m game if you are 🤓

Haha, I'm glad my contribution was well received and appreciated 😊

I would quite enjoy a conversation through song with you Newbie 😁 I'm already looking forward to next Thursday!

Definitely agree in regards to Phil's dance moves at the end 😂

BigPeteBx's picture

Interesting there Newbie.
I've gone with your Home Winners as well.

Leicester at home, but with Burnley, could be a draw, as Burnley are known to score on the road.
Aston Villa at home, then I went a draw with Man Utd and The Pool.
Man Utd have quite a few injured and even DeGea g/k, is out for this one.
Never know with the newly promoted Sheffield Utd at home, so I've gone a roughy for them to hold Gooners to a draw.

Cheers - Big Pete

@Steely - enjoy the trip and the liquids on mainland Oz here.

@NuLife (M) - did my community duty this morning on JP desk and signed a form for a gent from Mt Lofty (near Toowoomba).
U were thought of.

Cheers all and have a nice weekend and keep well

Hi Big Pete! So nice to be thought of 😃

How is the weather in Bathurst? We are having another warm one today! Apparently Townsville's Strand is 20 years and are having an event to celebrate which my wife is dragging me too (haha) Hopefully there will be a cool sea breeze!

I have family in Mount Isa who say they have been reaching highs of 42!! I also have some in Victoria that say one day it's 30, the next it's 1 😮

Anyway, just about to head out. Have yourself a wonderful weekend!

BigPeteBx's picture

Good Sunday afternoon to you NuLife (M).

Weather has been sunny but breezy. Got one or two of those late showers, yesterday, that developed into sunny scenes right after.
Its certainly been crazy with temps all over the shop.
I just hope Summer is cooler and that we can all Nationally, avoid those extreme bushfires.

Cheers and have a good week and above all - keep well
Big Pete

Morning All

Quite a nice start to the week in Queensland, light breeze with plenty of sun. My missus started a new job this morning, about to enter a different climate at home, will have the house to myself from 8am til 3.30 each day.

Don't worry too much, I have been issued a Mon-Fri list of house hold duties, Missus reckons I am the new house bitch which I am fine with except I didn't realise just how itchy her underwear can be:)
Have a great week folks

Tiger

The Thinker's picture

You'll get used to them Tiger.

It gets warm in the next few months. You don't want to be wearing much more than that if you're doing housework.

NuL1F3's picture

HAHAHA @ Tigerholic and Thinker 😂

Good morning Tigerholic, I too am the 'House Bitch' at home. It can be quite a busy job but I find it fulfilling. Having never worn my wife's underwear I can only take your word on that, though, she does say she prefers mine so maybe there is something in that? Enjoy the rest of your day :)

Hi Tiger, just remember, "a woman's work is never done".
Knowing just how hot it gets in Laidley, I'm sure that you'll get used to the lace panties. LOL.
Look after yourself.
Kind regards, manyana.

Thanks Big Pete. Safely arrived & enjoying some decent weather for a change. Can't imagine dipping my toes into the sea in October back home. The folk from these parts sure are spoilt.

I see your Red Devils held Liverpool to a draw today. Think you tipped the draw too. Watched some A-League with the Nix two losses from two starts & a sending off yesterday against Sydney FC. There's hardly a player left from last season's roster.

Take care mate

Don't worry too much about your keyboard skills. We get what you mean. Your comment on Monday at 5.53 is a classic, laughed until I couldn't stop. I'm sure Tiger saw the amusing side of it.

Big Pete
The DJR team copped a fine but the results stand, as they should.
Craig Lounsmouth has stated his dislike of the decision. Suck it up Craig the decision is in.

BigPeteBx's picture

Evening Mark - pretty hefty fine at that.
Stangs won though. Poor Holden, must want every race to their credit.

Cheers mate and keep well
Big Pete

BigPeteBx's picture

Evenin Steely.
Should check the icy water we get here.
Both EPL & A-League are going to be mixed bags this season.
Phoenix had a few departures including coach.
The Smurfs FC are playing some nice football. Our local lad Rhyan Grant scored the second and a gem of a goal it was.

But this morning - Sheffield Utd def Gooners 1 nil.
I picked a draw and wouldn't have expected The Blades to be leading 1 nil at half time.

Cheers mate and keep well
Big Pete

NuL1F3's picture

Just curious, if it was T8 that did what DJRTP did towards the end of the great race, would you be saying the same thing? Would you still feel the way you do?

There are many up and down pit lane unhappy with the decision, feeling that for an outfit like Penske's the punishment is a tad on the light side, even given the fact it is the highest fine ever issued. Craig is mostly unhappy with the fact that Bathurst 2019 will be remembered for this and not great racing.

I don't think Scott should have lost his win, I don't think anyone does do they? But unfortunately we will never know what the outcome would have been had car 12 not done what it did. Both Scott and Jamie were not fueled to finish, and there were a few in striking distance that were.

The mountain never disappoints, there is always some kind of drama. As a T8 fan I'm just glad it wasn't my favourite team that was caught up in it this time 😉

Baggy_Gee's picture

Team orders are fine, if like Mercedes you make your fast young guy pull over so Hamilton can make bigger numbers, don't be surprised if the only guys who want to be second seat are fresh amatures. But team orders that impact other drivers in a live race is the problem, especially if there was no problem half a lap before. But as with every penalty as long as it is enforced across the board. Does that big strlorm player miss game 1-3 next season?

mark ashford's picture

Hi Baggy & NuLiF3
The great race has been run and won. The officials have ruled and like it or not it is what it is. We all want to see the race won by great driving, fuel conservation etc not by questionable tactics by the management team.
Apparently big Nelson has a 3 match ban. He will miss playing for his country and 2 games next year. I think this is a bit harsh. If I was in a nightclub (heaven forbid) and a stack of guys were going at my mate (one with a bottle) I would have to step in. What was he supposed to do? hold his hands up and say sorry I can't be involved I'm an NRL player? Only job on the planet you get punished for helping a friend.

mark ashford's picture

On a lighter note..
Just got back from the Sunshine Coast after enjoying a couple of beers and a lovely lunch with the Steel Panther, Manyana, her friend and of course myself. Manyana and her friend only drank water but Steel and I knocked off a couple of ice cold schooners of xxxx gold... delicious.
Steel is enjoying his break and of course the wonderful QLD sunshine.
Apparently it never stops raining in Auckland, not ever!
This Kiwi gentleman is well worth meeting if any of you get an opportunity. Thanks for the day Steel, really enjoyed it.
