Round eight selections

Canberra Raiders vs Manly Sea Eagles – Friday night – GIO Stadium

The Raiders are warming up nicely as the season progresses, and are on track for their fourth win in succession in what is a rare game for them under the bright lights on a Friday night. Their victory over the Warriors last week was full of merit – two late withdrawals left the Raiders with just 15 players to work with. It's been nine years since a team have done that in the NRL, and not only did the Raiders win but they were strong at the tail end of that 20-8 victory. They are the real deal. The Sea Eagles were strong at the tail end of their round seven game too, but left their run too late. Martin Taupau returns up front for the visitors and Manly will need every one of their big men performing if they want to match the might of the Raiders pack. That said, the forwards battle won't be where this game is won (and that's unusual). That edge attack from Leilua and Rapana is probably the best in the league, and it's that edge where Manly have conceded most of their points this year. Those looking at try-scoring betting options take note, and for those just looking for a tip....the Raiders are specials.

Verdict – Raiders by 8

Result – Sea Eagles 20 defeated Raiders 18

South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Brisbane Broncos – Friday night – ANZ Stadium

In the last five weeks the Bunnies only victories have been at the expense of the spare tyres at the Panthers (by a solitary point) and the Knights by six. In their three losses they got towelled up by the Chooks, Storm and Bulldogs. I think the Broncos have more in common with the teams that towelled up the Bunnies. Sam Burgess gets to lace on the boots, which makes the Bunnies slightly more competitive but not competitive enough to win. I thought the Raiders were specials, but the Broncos even moreso.

Verdict – Broncos by 14

Result – Broncos 25 defeated Rabbitohs 24

Parramatta Eels vs Penrith Panthers – Saturday afternoon – ANZ Stadium

While the Eels vs Tigers game on Easter Monday was entertaining to watch, few would have walked away thinking either team would be competing with the better sides in the competition. The Eels looked good late, but the Tigers made them so. Penrith are fast becoming the most disappointing team this season (which isn't easy when you're in the same competition as the Warriors). I suggested many times last season that the Panthers looked very good against the poorer teams but struggled against the very best teams. This theory had me in a running battle with you-know-who...but I was right. This year they've flogged the Tigers and the Knights, but lost to the Dragons, Roosters and Sharks. It looks like nothing has changed. Now I just have to decide if the Eels are a good team or not. I don't think they are, but keep an eye on the team line-ups. If Kenny Edwards starts at fullback (ignore this...I'm an idiot), Gutherson switches to the halves and Takairangi takes on utility duties off the bench I could change my mind. As teams currently stand, I'll tip the Panthers with almost no confidence whatsoever.

Verdict – Panthers by 2

Result – Eels 18 defeated Panthers 12

North Queensland Cowboys vs Newcastle Knights – Saturday night – 1300SMILES Stadium

There's been a playmaker inside John Asiata bursting to show himself and he gets another chance to shine. So too Ponga in the fullback role, against the club he joins next season. Clearly the Cowboys are one or two forwards and one or two Thurstons short of a premiership threat at the minute, but they finished well against the Dragons last week and they should be too strong at home.

Verdict – Cowboys by 10

Result – Cowboys 24 defeated Knights 12

Cronulla Sharks vs Gold Coast Titans – Saturday night – Southern Cross Stadium

The extended bench for the Titans creates interest with Hayne, Proctor and Hurrell all named in the 21. Of those, only Hayne is any real chance of playing. If he does, this is quite the task he faces in his return. The Sharks haven't conceded a try in their last two games, and those games were away from home. They're back at their spiritual home with an unchanged line-up, and they'll win this in a canter.

Verdict – Sharks by 22

Result – Titans 16 defeated Sharks 12

Wests Tigers vs Canterbury Bulldogs – Sunday afternoon – ANZ Stadium

I spoke of the Tigers earlier but I'll say it again. They aren't good enough. Their right edge defence leaked points last week, and I'm sure Des Hasler noticed. Note that one of the weak links on that Tigers edge is out injured this week but they don't exactly have a truckload of first grade centres to call upon. I'd be tempted to throw Chris Lawrence back out there again, if his hamstrings can take the pace. There's not many levers Cleary can pull, and whatever he does come up with is likely to fall short. Note the venue – it's a Tigers home game played at the Bulldogs home ground.

Verdict – Bulldogs by 8

Result – Tigers 18 defeated Bulldogs 12

Sydney Roosters vs St George Illawarra Dragons – Tuesday afternoon – Allianz Stadium

If you only watch one game this round make sure it's this one, and if you're in Sydney on ANZAC Day you could do worse than stroll down to the Sydney Football Stadium for what is one of the real highlights of the NRL season. My blood flows red, white and blue so perhaps that is colouring my judgement but I'm happy to tip the Chooks here. Their forward pack will be a sterner test for the Dragons than what they faced in round seven. Note that Dylan Napa is some chance of an early return too.  If the Roosters are to be taken seriously as premiership contenders they need a big scalp, and I've a feeling they'll be primed for a breakout performance.

Verdict – Roosters by 4

Result – Roosters 13 defeated Dragons 12

Melbourne Storm vs New Zealand Warriors – Tuesday night – AAMI Park

This ANZAC Day clash is often over-shadowed by the afternoon game, but is a worthy spectacle indeed. In fact, the Storm have often shown us their very best on this day, and the Storm at their best are better than everyone. Will Chambers returns to strengthen the backline. The Warriors are yet to win away from Mt Smart this season, and they're backing up from a trip to Canberra with a trip to Melbourne. Do they actually go home in between? A game that often surprises on the upside, as the Warriors do like to remind us that NZ is a very important part of ANZAC. In any case, the Storm will get the points in the end.

Verdict – Storm by 8

Result – Storm 20 defeated Warriors 14

Wally Lewis - round eight selections (in bold)

Note: tips from Wally will be published on Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.

  • RAIDERS vs Sea Eagles
  • Rabbitohs vs BRONCOS
  • Eels vs PANTHERS
  • COWBOYS vs Knights
  • SHARKS vs Titans
  • Tigers vs BULLDOGS
  • ROOSTERS vs Dragons
  • STORM vs Warriors

Actually Mr Fortress, this site is a bit of everything. Footy yes, but growing up in different regions, different experiences moulds your view about footy. I've spoken to Big Pete about the area I've lived in and not necessarily footy related. IIts subjective Mr Fortress.. If Mr Thinker had a specific rule relating to footy talk only then it would be a sterile site. So let's have Mr Thinker keep running his site his way, and lets Mr Thinker decide what's on or off. All good Mr Fortress cheers from Mr Awesome

Friday meaning Saturday?
Probably.
Blind Freddie can see what's happened to Penrith, but why?
Why have they completely gone away from the gameplan that was pretty successful last year? Offloads, players backing up, drawing and passing. Stuff that wasn't invented yesterday.

How does any team win games just on completing sets, not worrying that you did nothing with the ball then let the other team have a go.
Last week ended just how it should playing like this, scoring zero tries and the other team scoring plenty.

Carrtwright and Mansour were the ones with the offloads, but in their absence, who has stepped up to fill their roles? Noone it seems.

Hard to fathom how something not broke decided to be fixed.
Until the key players return, I can't even see where the next win would come from. Would be nice if they are ready to rip at Suncorp in 7 days time.

Johnny Awesome,

Regarding your 'remember password' suggestion....it's a good one.

Will add that to the list.

Thanks Coach Potato for this kind of info. As a learner of the sport it adds more to the info being absorbed.
Cheers,

Very valid points indeed Mr Coach Potato. The Penrith team is starting to look like my Dragons side of last year. Plenty of ball throwing with little effect. They look like two teams in one and that gel is not happening over the whole team. I think they need to get back to basics and that's starts with the forwards doing their stuff, with the backs following. Some of their play looks like hot potato stuff. They've got some young players so the mental confidence plays a part. The mental stuff is up to the coach of the team to handle as well. Cheers from R Awesome

Hello everyone, my tips for this week are:

Raiders by 14- Raiders have too many points in them compared to the Sea Eagles. Plus, there defence has improved immensely although Manly's attack has improved immensely. But, I think that the Raiders will win in a high-scoring affair.

Broncos by 8- Broncos just have more class than the Rabbitohs and will show it here by scoring the win. Though I think that the Rabbitohs will be gutsy but won't come away with the win.

Eels by 2- Panthers will get the wins that they dearly need. But, it won't come in this one, Parra to win in a classic.

Cowboys by 8- From what I saw in the second half from the Cowboys with all those players out, they proved that they can hang in there and still play with plenty of spirit. This will get them over the line over a valiant Knights side.

Sharks by 8- Titans will hang in this game as they have throughout the season but Sharks will be too good here at home to continue on their form.

Bulldogs by 10- Not sure if Moses is playing in this one. If he isn't though, it could have a big effect on their preparation and could possibly make plenty of changes which may not help. Bulldogs on the other hand, are in good form and will continue on with it with a win over the Tigers here.

Dragons by 4- Geez, that second half against the Cowboys. Let's hope it teached us a big lesson. At least we were good enough to hang on in this one. We've got to be more than good to hang on against the Roosters. We've got to play the full 80 in this one, not one half. I think that we did learn our lessen from that second half against the Cowboys and win in yet another ANZAC day classic.

Storm by 20- Storm to win convincingly over the Warriors here.

Awesome. Good luck with everyone's teams this week and with everyone's tips this week. Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bulldogs by 8 I think the Bulldogs will win here

Coach Potato's picture

It's only my opinion Mary S, but I'm a firm believer that points come on the back of defensive lines being forced to back pedal.

Opposition teams have had no reason to back pedal lately as Panthers seem to just ruck it up for 5 tackles then kick.

Even when they get into the attacking 20, eg against Storm, there is no offloads (as in forwards drawing in defenders before getting the ball away), just tossing it around Bulldog style doesn't disorganise an organised defence.

Is really tough to watch as a fan.
I cringe every time Tamou takes it up, and words about not passing are ringing in his ears.

Hook, if you value your job then stop holding back the talent. Let them play that freestyler (rock-a-microphone) kinda game. They might win one for you.

mark ashford's picture

Coach, I think you had most of your "good players" back last weekend.
Cleary and Moylan were a bit disappointing.
I've watched Tamou's game when he was a Cowboy and a Blue.
He's a big unit but doesn't do much?
You deserve better than where your team is at.
Is there a problem with Hook? or management?
Please don't go down the road of the Tigers or Eels

christine's picture

"a" Have you fine tuned your ''A'' game comp yet so I know if I need or should change my tip yet ?

Baggy_Gee's picture

Whats this Eels road? Our problem was the head of the fish was rotten and wouldn't do anything constructive apart from infighting. The coaching and players aren't to blame for that.

mark ashford's picture

Baggy you gotta admit the Eels were a problem in the last two years.
Whether it was players, coaching, or management there was a problem.
For a club to be successful then all factions must come together.
Look at Storm, Cowboys, Broncs, Dogs etc you need it all to be successful.

Baggy_Gee's picture

Indeed, see what Ricky has done at a solid club, He has the players he wants, running the game he wants, getting the results that we all want. Not arguing that we have been far under par for a long while but the whole dump the coach at the first sign of trouble is not the solution and neither is letting players sulk off into the sunset. Now we have another year or two especially with these over priced recruitments pushing the younger local and development talents out. But with a 5 year coach plan, a new board who are interested in the best for the club, not them and their mates, and some great juniors like Jamal on board, life is peachy.

Tailspin's picture

Hey everyone, hope all good, here are my tips.
Raiders at home by 4, but I'm not convinced, the Eagles had a good comeback in the second half against a very good defensive side in the Storm.
Broncos way too good for the Bunnies by 28.
Panthers by 6, but I'm not too sure as they have been woeful of late.
Cowboys by 26, watch the boys fly this week.
Sharks by 6, Watch out for the gutsy Titans, could be an upset any time now, they are playing with a lot of heart.
Dogs by 14
I'm going the Dragons here by 4, should be a cracker
Storm by 18
Hope you all have a great week end of footy.

mark ashford's picture

Baggy
Brad Arthur is a good coach and has a good team of players under his watch. I'm just sorry to see any club slip under what they should achieve.
Nothing personal on my post mate.

Baggy_Gee's picture

Nothing taken. This is the way we do it, having a talk about football. I just can't stand the clubs that boot a coach because the players don't like him, or isn't winning enough with a young team. If the players aren't buying in to the structure and ideas of the coach then apply the boot because there is obviously an issue, but taking a personality clash as grounds............? Imagine if Fatty was give the ass after the first SoO win he had because the Axe hated him, would it have been 6 straight years with out a QLD series win? That is the part I hate, talk performance, not personality.

Baggy_Gee's picture

Anyway Mark, I don't read into to word to much if I can't see the other person talking. Far to easy to misinterpret and get bent out of shape, Just leave my mother and family out of the discussion and you can almost get away with anything.

BigPeteBx's picture

Evenin Johnny Awesome.
All's good and ok with Fortress and me.
Noting to hide, just personal away from the site stuff that we had arranged last year. Its allowable and I've seen it done with others.
The process is - one asks Thinker to relay the others email address to them, so they can contact or meet/greet off site.
Nothing wrong with that and it keeps ones personal email private and not open to the world who visits/views this site.
I can see the good in it and also how Identity Theft can be exploited by others who aren't definite members of this site.

Much like you and I when u r in the region. You email me and I meet you for a ginger beer, bodgy soda or red fire engine.
Simple and nothing secretive about it. All's well that ends well.
Big Pete

BigPeteBx's picture

Fortress - I was speaking with Johnny Awesome about the post you left in blog of 12.20am this morning - very early this morning. Like as if you only just got home from The Cinderella Ball.

Remember mate, we all talk footy and that is all codes. not just standalone NRL. What on earth has happened to Sydney Swans.
Although I follow a Vic team (have done since my high school days) and Swans my second team.

You and Eagle Rocks can gather up as many of our Eagle Angels and I'll meet you anywhere. Cheers hahahahaha................sweet dreams are made of these, who am I to disagree......yes, a few might be humming that as well, soon.

tigerholic's picture

The worst kept secret in NRL history see's Tedesco and Woods leaving the Tigers.

Even though it was inevitable, as a fan I am totally gutted as I like many others I'm sure held out some faint hope that Tedesco would stay a Tiger.

This will put us even further behind the other 15 teams as far as big name players. I thought that maybe we would see another Tigers premiership in my life time, that appears to be gone as well.

It's days like these that you just want to stop being a fan.

Baggy_Gee's picture

Here's hoping that you can blood some young guns in the remains of this season and come back strong next year.

tigerholic's picture

Cheers Baggy

Woods going we could have coped with which was like losing Coach Potato, but losing Tedesco is like losing the Thinker, totally irreplaceable.

I'm going to be crying into my beer all weekend:(

Baggy_Gee's picture

Yep, thinking back to last year when the NRL told us we had to give up Peats. It sucks, but this is how you get to dig up fresh diamonds to build a new team around. Let's see how Clealy goes sorting it out.

Steve Kerle's picture

RAIDERS 12
BRONCOS 4
PANTHERS 2
COWBOYS 8
SHARKS 14
BULLDOGS 6
ROOSTERS 2
STORM 8

tigerholic's picture

That's true, once a Tiger always a Tiger, that goes for all diehard fans hey Baggy.

Thanks for your positive spin on this.

BigPeteBx's picture

Evenin Thinker bloggers.
Got the tip late this arvo that Panthers NRL Club has signed a 10 year extension on Penrith Panthers NRL bringing one game a year to Bathurst to be played as one of their home games.

There go Coach - out of the couch and into ya jockey johnsons and head up this way. Bring your potato and leek soup to keep you warmed up thermally.

Johnny Awesome's picture

G"Day Big Pete, the email thing explains a bit. It's good to have that alternative for a private chat for those who want. Like the chess sites where I play, I prefer to go on, forget life stuff for a while without any baggage. A few players complained that it was rude not to chat. I reminded them via my bio, that chess etiquette says you don't talk during a game and after the game is finished, I prefer to go back where my real life is anyway away from the computer screen. I have a more open view here and enjoy the tipping and talk but let's face it, it doesn't Pay the bills except maybe a little for Mr Thinker. So what is the point of my rambling Big Pete? Well, basically to each his own. And it's actually therapeutic to meet and greet different folk. In My Coach Potatos case more therapy but that's another story. Tongue in cheek Mr Voach Potato. Going down to MollyMook tomorrow for my Nephews wedding. Gave my two season passes to a mate of mine for the Raiders game. My other mate in the Raiders reckons the Viking Clap will be done at halftime tomorrow night due to Anzac celebrations at the start of the game. How good is the Viking clap? Gee it's got character. So Big Pete let's hope the Raiders win tomorrow night and the Dragons win on Tuesday. Actually Mr Thinker I'm changing one tip. I'll go a roughy and go the Dragons. Cheers Big Pete and cheers all, sorry for typo's from Mr Awesome

Coach Potato's picture

C'mon I'm no damn Woods analogy.
Shadow box anyone, I must be Laurie Nichols then, and he certainly hasn't been replaced.

Coach Potato's picture

Teams have to be announced on the Tuesday right?
Well this week's round doesn't finish til Tuesday. Last game finishes about 9pm barring Golden Point. That means those four teams will have the post match press conferences to announce their teams for Round 9 which starts on the Thursday.

The draw shows all four teams have leniently been granted Sunday games against one another, but still means 5 day turnarounds for all four.

We play an ANZAC Test Match and its not ANZAC day, but the sentiment is still there. Wouldn't it have been a little wiser to just play these ANZAC matches on the weekend. Surely the NRL doesn't need the same continuing rights to this day as the RSL.

Coach Potato's picture

Good point Big Pete, what has happened to the people that share fortress's phone? Or do I mean the ones who share their phone with fortress?

Marita's picture

Hi Thinker,

Sorry I haven’t been entering my tips. I know I won’t make your ladder this year but my tips are:

Raiders - They’re on a roll after a slow start and I can’t see it stopping on Friday night, but the Sea Eagles could give them a hard time considering their second half last week.

Broncos –Even though they’re playing away from home, I don’t think the Rabbitohs are a threat. Having said that, the Rabbitohs have proven me wrong before, so we’ll see.

Panthers - I reckon the they’re due for a win – they’ve been struggling but after losing the last two weeks I reckon they’ll be geared up and frustrated enough to prove themselves this week.

Cowboys - After watching their comeback in their second half last week, I’m backing the Cowboys because I reckon they’ll be pumped and eager for a win.

Titans - I’m going for an upset here. The Sharks have been great but even the best teams take a fall at some point and this might be the week, especially with the way the Titans played last week.

Bulldogs - I don’t think the Tigers will be pushovers and might give the Bullodgs a run for their money, but I don’t think it’ll be enough.

Roosters - Last week, the Roosters looked like they were getting their act together, while the Dragons seemed to take their foot off the pedal against the Cowboys.

Storm - The Warriors don’t seem to do well away from home and I can’t see them scoring a win against such a strong team, though I don’t think they’ll make it easy for the Storm.

Good luck everybody!

Coach Potato's picture

No Kahu, no Hunt.. who's going to kick for goal? Milford ?
Better score em' under the sticks then Broncos.

Coach Potato's picture

No Reynolds either? Could be a goal-less game.

Coach Potato's picture

My current streak table looks like this - a whole lot like the real table, apart from highlighting all too well where the Panthers are sitting in reality.

1. Dragons 5
2. Storm 5
3. Sharks 4
4. Roosters 4
5. Cowboys 4
6. Raiders 3
7. Bulldogs 3
8. Sea Eagles 3
9. Broncos 2
10. Warriors 2
11. Rabbitohs 2
12. Eels 2
13. Tigers 0
14. Panthers 0
15. Titans 0
16. Knights 0

newbie from perth's picture

Hi everyone,

Gee, didn’t realize how late it was. Been on holidays this week so time is of little importance. It might be 12:50 WA time but at least I can sleep in as long as I like tomorrow/today. I love not having to get up early and go to work. Eventually retiring in Thailand is gonna be total “bliss”. Anyway, Round 8 is nearly here so let’s get into it …

Raiders v Manly - The Raiders have found their “mojo” winning their last 3 while Manly have stuttered losing their last 2 (and conceding big points), albeit against quality opposition. The Raiders attacking options should see them getting the chocolates here. Viking Clappin’ time!

Rabbitohs v Broncos - The Bunnies’ recent form is not getting me excited at all. The Broncos managed to scrape in last week against the Titans (what a great game that was) but a win is a win and they have a definite class edge in this match. Buckin’ Bronco time!

Eels v Panthers - This will be a hard one to pick. Neither side has set the world on fire and while one of them is leaking points like crazy, the other one can’t seem to score any lately. Seriously, I have absolutely no idea with this one. I suppose the Panthers are due for a win so I’ll tip ‘em to sneak in. Panther Pouncin’ time! Never heard a Panther before tonight. Really freaky, strange, weird, to say the least. If you’re interested or bored, check out this youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBhaObzdO-c

Cowboys v Knights - Good comeback from the Cowboys last week and they seem to be handling JT’s absence pretty well. The Knights just can’t get it together since their win over the Titans in Round 2 and heading up to 1300 doesn’t help either. Yee-Hah! Ride ‘Em Cowboy!

Sharks v Titans - The Sharks are absolutely “red hot” at the moment and their defence has shown to be outstanding. Unfortunately for the Titans, theirs is the complete opposite. Titans can score points and they might have some blokes coming back in but the Sharks will prove too strong I think. SC Stadium will be full of Noah’s this week in a possible feeding frenzy! Duunnn dunnn ... duuuunnnn duun ... duuunnnnnnnn dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dunnnnnnnnnnn dunnnn.

Tigers v Bulldogs - You could say that the Tigers were a bit unlucky last week or you could say they threw it away. They seem to be letting in a lot of points this year. The Doggies are rolling along nicely of late and I hear that Klemmer is set to return which should help them out. The Doggies seem to have the edge in this. Woof! Woof! Woof!

Roosters v Dragons - You don’t sit on top of the ladder for no reason. The best attack in the competition, 3rd best defence and they’ve won 3/3 away games so far this year. Last week’s effort from my BBB against the Knights wasn’t all that convincing so I’ve heard. But hey, we have a fairly good side that’s more than capable of winning this. If they can get their act together that is. I’m hoping STG are due for a loss here and contrary to what my head is telling me, I’m tipping the BBB to get up here. Yeah, crazy I know but you gotta bet against the crowd every now and then don’t ya? The Boss tipping them as well has me feeling a whole lot better I must admit. Go you Mighty Chooks ... Begurk! Begurk!

Storm v Warriors - Up until last week, the Storm Troopers’ defence was tip-top. Mind you, they’re still the best in the competition for points conceded and I can’t see the Warriors being able to score as many as Manly did last week. The Warriors have played some decent footy lately (except for last week’s effort) but winning at AAMI might be a bit of an ask. The Storm Troopers to continue marching on!

OK kids, good luck with your tipping and may your team win by 40 points! Until next week people. Cheers.

P.S. If quitters never win, why do they tell us to quit while we're ahead? Hmmm…

Rocket Ryan's picture

BooHoo poor Tigerholic I'm not surprised you have been comforted by Baggy his club is as big a basket case as yours, we have winners and losers in the NRL each week,as a tiger supporter and NSW blues man have a guess were you sit if you are sick of losing and we think that is your main problem then do what woods and teddy have done simply get out!

Big couple of weeks coming up for you too Coach Potato Suncorp looms large on the horizon.

Coach Potato's picture

A couple of weeks will only take 6 more days

Baggy_Gee's picture

How many of the so called Broncos faithful would still turn up if their stars were walking out and they were being beaten like they stole something each week? Wait till the hard times come up there and then we'll kick you from pillar to post Ryan.

tigerholic's picture

If the Tigers fiasco was happening with the broncos, you would have both Waynee pooh and his precious son Darius crying on national TV, Waynee pooh would be calling for an over haul of the transfer window.

I hope Karma doesn't ever catch up with you Rocket, you can make things a little bit friendlier if you do that shift for me.

You Queenslanders have had it good for far too long, you have had the monopoly on players in the Brisbane region and only have the Titan minows to compete with.

I hope Karma bites you in your big maroon arse in the form of James Roberts scoring under the posts 30 seconds from the end in game three giving the Blues a 3-0 white wash.

I don't know that you have any level of footy etiquette, you never kick someone when they are down, maybe we should change your stage name to King Rocket.

Steel Panther's picture

While I feel for you Baggy and Tiger at least your clubs have had some glory days. Try being a Warriors supporter (or should I say follower) like me. Apart from two grand final appearances (both losses) in 20 odd seasons it feels like my club is in rebuild mode every year and next year will be our season. It's not only the players who are awful on the field, there's plenty of off field decisions that have been made that are awful too. I've said it before and I'll say it again.....in 2011 all three grades made their respective grand finals indicating a club in good health!!! Cleary makes a silk purse out of a sow's ear and then gets shown the door. We haven't even made the top eight since.

Baggy_Gee's picture

That is true Steel, I was going to point out that a high light of the Warriors was all three grades in the main dance until you beat me to the punch. I wonder how many kids who could really kill it over there get on board the Union train and only get to second string side waiting to get the call up to the super 16's or the All Blacks. Probably make 2 or 3 NRL teams over there if league wasn't the poor relative to Union.

Think I've finally got my head around "a"s comp....took me a few minutes but remember I'm a simple fisherman and far from the sharpest tool in the shed.
Starting at round 8 it will take us to round 18 and maybe beyond with any possible playoffs.
So Coach what about a short and sharp comp to end the season.
Could run into the finals if necessary. I'll contribute to a prize if you can come up with something.

ROCKET even though I love you as a Qlder the attacks on Baggy and Tiger were a bit tough mate.
Imagine if our Broncs were decimated by big money attacks from those unprincipled NSW clubs. Won't happen but think about it.
Most Qld. players prefer to play here under good coaches etc.
Ben Hunt will disappear into the NSW system, sorry Ben.
Meanwhile the Sydney clubs will continue to poach players hoping the cap will save them. Pretty sad really.
