Happy Friday Everyone at Thinker site.
Yes BigPete is about, but not always.

@Christine - thanks Christine for you dear thought and message regarding my absence or from seeing my name in print (not lights).
Dont mention lights, as they have been an issue.
I had further eye surgery around 3 weeks ago and so far a blessing, apart from brightness. Then two days after, I was a glutton for punishment and had a cortisone injection into my injured ankle, by CT scan. Had to get it done - best pain killer I've ever had, but it wears off. I see why footballers etc., get by with it.

@Everyone and Thinker - I've steered clear of SoO banter, as it was good to see it at 1 all and certainly made for a Benny inspired boys to bring home the bacon for Qld.

@Mark A - I thought mate, you might have seen me missing, but I was speaking the other day with our friends from Avondale Meats there at Bribie. They are in the process of opening another butcher shop up there. I'll keep you posted as to where. Truly hope u r keeping well and enjoying some of the EPL results from UK.
On a national front, Diego Maradona passed away aged 60 and Argentina are in mourning. He was a national sporting icon for them, a great skillful player, but also in mixed circumstances within the media over his years of sometimes not accepted involvement within and away from the game. In his time both Pele and Maradona were greats and then along came Messi and CR7 (Ronaldo), who now grab the headlines.

FYI Thinker and all - announced her locally over news last night, that Penrith Panthers will host Manly in the home game they bring to Bx in 2021.
I guess subject to injuries, you will see a better Manly go round.
Des has thrown a lifeline to Keiran Foran and that might just work old wonders at Brooky with DCE, as I doubt that Keiran would have been at home at Dogs with Trent, knowing he was a former player, at a club that got rid of him as a coach. That's just my opinion.

But my heart goes out to the Titmuss family over their loss.
This lad had success written all over him and I for one, would have liked to have seen him play in full NRL matches. May he RIP and watch the NRL progress from above.

Cheers all and keep well. Got to move on for now.
Big Pete in Bx

mark ashford's picture

Hey Big Pete
Great to see you back here mate but sorry to hear your peepers are still being an issue, hopefully the latest surgery will improve things. Now you've had cortisone in your ankle, goodness me is this from the basketball days with our Avondale friend Greg?
Now seriously the SoO trophy is back where it belongs so I'll forgive you for not commenting. GO the Queenslanders (at least for this year)
In the past SoO was dominated by Broncos but I think we only had 1 or 2 players in the squad, not surprising seeing where they finished.
I've been looking through the draw for 2021 and really it doesn't matter as transfers and others signings are yet to be finalised.
I see the Broncs play Manly only once on May 14th and it's at Suncorp.
The NRL tipsters have stated the Broncs will finish 16th again! I hope they are wrong.
See you guys have signed Saab, which should be very good as he goes as quick as that Swedish super car.
Keep yourself well and stay out of the sun.

Christine's picture

Big pete
keep those sunnies on as much as you can i am sure they told you that if it was for the same reason of course & i tol also know someone that is a fill in supervisor at a shopping centre who got hit in the back of the ankle with a shopping trolley & it actually chipped the bone surgery won't be before 6 months still working during that time so he too has had cortisone he ferls now he might not bother with having the surgery but as you said cortisone will wear off he was told to stay off work with it for 6 months until the surgery but he needs the money & his boss that runs the shopping centre won't pay for his medical expenses it sort of you work here at your own cost & they push them hard too big pete good tp hear from you i knew you would be lurching around somewhere big pete stay safe & try to post again before christmas & say hi to your wife from us all here at the thinkers site ...

Christine's picture

That was lurking around somewhere big pete now if we could only find tiger he can't hide forever come on tiger face the noise you know you have got coming your way don't be like coach you have both disappeared ...

tigerholic's picture

Hello Folks
Nice to see some of you keeping the family together. Christine it was a disappointing end to the SOO this year but credit where credit is due and QLD deserved to win.

I must say that having 14 players on the field at all times must have helped. Sutton put in three average performances in my opinion, I don't see how the NRL see as the number one Ref, that's like saying Rocket Ryan is the best tipster running around.

Tiger has been back at work and doing plenty of extra shifts with only one day off a week, even then I have to have my hit of golf then back to the grind stone.

As everyone has said, thanks again Thinker and TLH, Merry Xmas to you and yours, I look forward to a great 2021.

To all of my favourites on here, have a great xmas and stay safe. I'll check in again occasionally.

Love from Tiger

mark ashford's picture

Hey Tiger
Nice to see your post and nice to see you putting in extra shifts to build up that piggy bank for Christmas. On SoO I think the Blues came to game 1 thinking it would be an easy win but some hungry Maroon players put paid to that. After an easy win in game 2 I think they made the same mistake in game 3. No doubt Suncorp played a part.
Mate I'd like to wish you and family a wonderful and safe Christmas.
AND keep enjoying that golf!

mark ashford's picture

Christine
I'd also like to wish you a Merry Christmas, hope all goes well for you for the rest of this year and into 2021. Keep well my friend.

Hi everyone,
Seasons greetings to all, and here's hoping for a less disruptive 2021!!!

@BigPete - Hope the eyes are continuing to improve and the cortisone is effective for a long time! I had one of those in my knee, some months before the knee was replaced- good stuff while it lasts!!

The skill & balance in this one is "WOW" and should test the eyes-

Great to see the Boss has once again put up the “off season page”. Thanks for that Thinker. As mentioned by others, kudos for running the site for the 2020 season, thanks for the prizes, thanks for the tolerance, thanks for the guidance and thanks for the tips. Thanks too for the help from TLH and thanks to Mrs Thinker for letting the Boss run this here shindig.

Not that I celebrate Xmas (you may know that already) but for those that do, have a safe and enjoyable time. Promise me you’ll eat and drink far too much 😁. Thank you all for being part of the family here and may next year be better than the one we’ve just had.

OK, now for some rattling on…

@ Mary
While that “Sensational Dance Crew” were pretty good (sorta) and no offence intended, I’m not so sure I would’ve given them the Golden Buzzer. It seemed to me that the two smaller girls were stealing the limelight and I reckon that’s what got them the “emotional” reaction from the crowd and the judges. Seems I’m harder to please than most 😉. Having said that though, it was entertaining. Thanks for the share.

Now, that Patsy Cline “lip sync” video was fun to watch. Brought a smile to my face and she did such a great job. You don’t have to know who Patsy Cline was or have heard the song before to appreciate the performance. Well done Mary, that was a good one 😍.

@ Christine
I keep seeing you have problems with “gremlins” on your phone and I’ve noticed something that might possibly explain what’s happening. I could be wrong here (and we’d have to go back and check this properly) but I think that most of the spelling errors and so on are originating from letters either side of the letters you actually want to type. For example:

Your post from Fri 27/11/20 shows “he ferls now” and “good tp hear from”. Notice that in “ferls” the letter “r” is right next to the letter “e” on the keyboard? Notice that in “tp” the letter “p” is right next to the letter “o” on the keyboard?

Your post from Tue 24/11/20 shows “mrs thinkee”. Notice that in “thinkee” the letter “e” is right next to the letter “r” on the keyboard?

Your post from Fri 4/12/20 shows “from everyonw here”. Notice that in “everyonw” the letter “w” is right next to the letter “e” on the keyboard?

It looks like either the mobile has trouble with the adjacent letter or you may be accidently hitting the adjacent letter if you’re typing really quick. Not having a go at your typing skills, just an observation is all 🤔. Do you reckon we might’ve cracked this one GF?

@ Big Pete
I have my fingers crossed you get your “situation” fixed once and for all brother. Life is trying at the best of times and things like this don’t help. Stay focussed (your mind AND your eyes) that this will all turn out for the better. I’m doing exactly the same for my Gooners who are currently sitting in 14th position. We’re playing Spurs on Sunday. Yikes!

@ everyone else
On a totally unrelated non-football matter, I thought I might tell you all about an insanely good solution to scale build-up and badly stained toilets. Cut a long story short, I’m sometimes lazy and don’t always scrub the bowl. Suffice to say, this has led to a severely gross looking dunny that no amount of scrubbing and bleaching over many years could shift. Came across a “fix” the other day and it worked a treat. Bunnings sell this stuff called Scalex and after the first treatment (a few tablespoons), half the grossness disappeared. After the second dose, it’s sparkling white and looking brand new. Absolutely amazing stuff 🤪. No scrubbing involved at all. Just leave overnight and flush. If anyone has this “problem” I’d highly recommend you get yourself a bottle of these crystals. Best $11.00 I ever spent. And no, I’m not on commission 😁.

Anyone feeling down? Feel like having a feel-good cry? Some of you may have already seen this but for those who haven’t, this will (should) do the trick 😥.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHiH1NytwjM

OK, I’m off to give myself a haircut (No.5) and then surf the net. Y’all stay safe and y’all stay healthy. I’ll pop in from time to time to see what’s goin’ on. Oh and yeah, might put up a mid-week SOTW just for shiggles. Cheers 🐔 🐔 🐔

mark ashford's picture

Newbie you bas--rd.
Mate I'm an emotional person and that song did the trick. Just beautiful.
I remember you are not a Christmas person so would just like to wish you a safe and happy holiday.
People say "drink responsibly" so I buy my own drink, drive it home myself, refrigerate it and drink it (mostly) by myself. So in my mind thats being very responsible.

The Butcher's picture

It’s good to see a lot of the regulars here in the off season I remember last year it was fun with stories, music etc.
I’m coming up to almost 30 years married and friends have asked that have fallen along the wayside how have you made it work? Well
We go out for dinner two times a week have a few drinks , a nice meal and good company. I go on Tuesday she goes on Friday.
I make sure I take my wife everywhere but she always finds her way back.
I asked my wife where did she want to go for our anniversary she said somewhere I haven’t been for a long time...so I suggested the kitchen.
I make sure we always hold hands because if I let go she shops.
She got a mud pack and looked great for 2 days then the mud fell off.
She once ran after the garbage truck and said am I too late. The driver said no jump in.
I definitely married Miss Right I just didn’t know her first name was always.
Though I do except the blame for our last argument she said what’s on the television I said dust.
See it’s not that hard.
For my song you can’t beat this voice.
Have a great Xmas https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0QTQdAKUZmA

mark ashford's picture

The Butcher
After almost 30 years of marriage mate I can see you and the better half sitting down to write those funnies together. Well done you and Mrs Butcher.
Heard this the other day... A drunk goes into a bar and the barkeep says what would you like? Looking down the bar and seeing only 4 other drinkers the drunk says I'll have a double scotch and the same for my friends down the bar and make sure you get one for yourself. The barkeep serves the drinks and says that'll be $56. The drunk says sorry I haven't got any money. With that the barkeep jumps the bar, grabs the drunk by the collar, takes him outside and belts the crap out of him. An hour later the drunk comes back in and says can I get those same drinks again but nothing for you, you get violent when you've been drinking.

Evenin’ all,

First cab off the rank … huge thanks to the Boss for sending me the Maroons ball and the Storm ball. Yay! Finally have some balls! As mentioned somewhere (sorry can’t remember who or when), I have the 2020 GF winners ball AND the 2020 SOO Series winners ball in my possession. Thanks again Thinker, much appreciated 😍.

@ Mr Ashford
Not meaning anything nasty but I’m glad the song from last Saturday made your eyes leak. Good for the soul my brother. Relieves the tension a little and resets the emotions. I do it all the time if that’s any consolation 😉.

@ Butcher
Loved last week’s storytelling regarding your lovely wife. More ditties please mate 😍. Mr Ashford can chime in too. Between you two blokes we should get a good laugh every now and then.

@ Christine
Regarding the “gremlins” at work, yeah, it’s a plausible possibility I reckon. Nice to know there’s at least two of us on here now with a high IQ 🤪. Yeah, a long wait for the 2021 season but it’ll be worth it. At least we can pop in here every now and then eh?

OK, hope everyone’s staying safe out there. Great to see our wacky Premier has finally opened our borders to the Eastern States people. Well, that is until there’s a cluster somewhere over the other side. He openly admits through TV and radio here that if the brown stuff hits the fan somewhere he’ll have “no hesitation” in closing down the borders again. When is this all gonna end? I for one am getting very tired of it all to be honest. Yeah I know we gotta be careful and it’s serious stuff and all but still 🤧.

OK, enough waffling. Anyone wanna SOTW? Ha! I knew you’d say yes…

Should I admit to this? Hmm, OK then 😉. I actually sang this to karaoke many years ago. In my defence I was very, very drunk at the time 🤪. It’s a good song though, still like it…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPJz3syNbtE

Cheers y’all 🐔 🐔 🐔

mark ashford's picture

Hey Newbie
I can see you after a few sherbits karaokeing to that song. Did you also manage those dance moves? very smooth.
Yeah mate both our premiers shut borders, and I know it's annoying but look at AUS compared to almost every other country we are almost Covid-19 free. Can't say the border closing achieved this result but it'll do me for starters. Businesses have suffered but we will bounce back.
We have no choice but to spend our money at home and I'm trying my best keeping the local bottle shop busy.
Keep well and enjoy your break.

They have just introduced a new rule of 2 points for a field goal witch is a load of rubbish it’s going to end up like the 20/40 rule

mark ashford's picture

Hey Guru
Yeah I'd be in that mate. Would promote a bit more footy interest here and help pass the time until March next year.
"a" I can't see the point of 2 points for a field goal? no doubt people smarter than me have worked it out but why.

mark ashford's picture

Hi All
As Christmas draws near and we all think about our loved ones spare a thought about disabled people. I've loved this song since it came out but never knew it was about a blind girl (didn't watch the video) Even sang it to a good looker on my NZ cruise last year. Didn't work but at least I got a nice smile. Enjoy and take care of any disabled people you know.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHONNcZbwDY

Absolutely love this video mark it really shows how you can do anything even if you are disabled

mark ashford's picture

Hi "a"
Yes a great video by Lionel Ritchie. He obviously has a depth of feeling about other people less fortunate than himself. Glad you enjoyed it.
NOW I'd like to wish you and your family a happy and safe Christmas and may your Cowboys have a great 2021. Keep well.

THE GURU
What a terrific game you chose for your first offering.
Almost brought a tear to my eyes seeing those great players from both teams. Darren Lockyer (with hair) at fullback would have given Billy Slater a run for his money. There was plenty of high shots, leg pulling and interferences in the play the ball all unnoticed by Paul (hollywood) Harrigan to give our current bunker a headache. The Broncos defence was exceptional as was the Knights at times. Both Johns brothers didn't impress in this game. Is Joey really an immortal? Big Paul Harrigan is shown as a bit of a thug flopping on smaller players with the intention to injure. No wonder Mark Carroll hated him. Overall a great game if you're a Broncs supporter, just wish we had those players in 2021. Did you notice Lockyer kicking goals from a sand pile? took me back 22 years oh of course that's when it was played.

Newbie i just read my typing is affected by my ms , ms affects your fine motor skills such as texting & typing my neurogist checks my fine motor skills & my sight every time i have a follow up appointment with them they look in your eyes & they can see if there are any lesions coming ,my treatment called ocrevus is designed to kill or target the lesions coming & get rid of them but it can't dobanything about the lesions you already have they won't go ( i have two ) when you get a lesion your sight goes it just disappears usually in patches until all gone but then it comes back it seems like a long time but it is probably only a minute or two all though the first time for me felt like five minutes or more it is scary when it happens so yes i understand it would probably get frustrating not always being able to read what i type but please keep in mind that people with ms there fine motor skills do get & are affected thats why it is such an unfriendly disease it just robs you of things but in such a way you don't actually notice it until it is gone & there is nothing you can do ,in saying that my father says you can't regain what you have already lost but apparently the treatment i am on can help in prove my walking in time i am not sure how long it takes to do that but it is something if it does i won't say no if it helps that is why not it doesn't mean you are cured there is no cure unfortunatly , i just wanted to share that with you all & give a bit if insight unto ms & life with ms ...

Hey you RL lovers is no one else interested in The Guru's game of the week or maybe the month seeing the lack of response. If you can't open the link just sign on to the NRL site, it's easy and it's free. We have to wait until February for the Indigenous round then Thursday March 11th for normal resumption of games.
Guru maybe a game with two Sydney teams may spark some interest.

newbie from perth's picture

2 points for a field goal? Seriously? Admittedly it’s only worth 2 points if it’s kicked from outside 40 metres but still. There was just the one kicked from outside the 40 in 2020 (from 10 attempts) so it all seems rather “pointless” (excuse the pun). If you’re interested, here’s the link:

https://www.nrl.com/news/2020/12/11/numbers-game-why-two-point-field-goa...

Change for change sake doesn’t always work. Seems like a wasted exercise to me. Pretty sure plenty of blokes will still have a go though. Meh!

@ Christine
Thanks for the heads-up regarding your MS and the way it affects the typing. Not sure I can give you any advice other than “hang in there”. I always remember something my dear ol’ dad used to say when I complained about having to wear glasses …. “just remember mate, there’s always someone doing’ it harder than you”. Always remember that advice and yes, it used to help me feel a little better. But yeah, it’s gotta suck though. Spoilers: this week’s SOTW might just have a little “message” for you 😍.

@ Guru & Mr Ashford
Been busy as a beaver this last week (prepping for going on 2 weeks leave tonight) and haven’t had a chance to watch the Knights vs Broncos game but will do soon. Not Saturday though as I’ll be on the grog at a mate’s place and not Sunday as I’ll be “recuperating” from Saturday 🤪. Might take a couple of days but I’ll get there…

OK, I realise I’m late with this week’s SOTW, but better late than never. In my opinion (and only mine), this is the best Beatles song cover of all time! Possibly better than the original. The man was my first Rock Hero and I still get goosebumps listening to that voice … Boom! 💥

Enjoy your break over the holidays. Yes I read your post about the 2 point field goal and as it seems they are as rare as hens teeth one has to wonder why.
Mate old gravel voice was in my mind an absolute legend. Not only was he a great singer but enjoyed life to the fullest.
Guess we all make choices in life and some pay the penalty. RIP Joe.

Evenin’ all,

Yeah, I realise it’s late, especially over East, but still early over here (almost 9.30pm) but I’ll post anyways. Not much happening at the homestead I see. Well, the Xmas “rush” could possibly have something to do with that.

Speaking of Xmas, I was lurking over on a few subreddits the other day and I came across an interesting little photo you might be interested in. It seems a Dutch photographer (Bas Uterwijk) has used an AI program to create an image of what Jesus would’ve most probably looked like. Some may have already seen it but for those who haven’t …

Warning: Given the sensitive nature of religious beliefs and the time of year we are currently in, I would strongly urge any Christians out there who might be offended to NOT click on the following link.

https://i.redd.it/x8l7hzbe0tc51.jpg

Well, it’s been 3 days into my holidays and I have to report I’ve done diddly-squat. All I’ve managed to do is sleep in late, watch some pre-recorded TV shows and spend the rest of my days surfin’ the web. At least I’m having a “day out” tomorrow. Have to do some food shopping and get my lotto on 💰 as Friday is Xmas day. How exciting 😁.

This will probably be the last time I talk to y’all before Xmas day arrives and while I do not celebrate it, here’s hoping you all have a great day 🎅🤝🥂. Maybe some of you could report back with some Xmas stories of what you got from Santa or maybe even some Xmas jokes (looking at the Butcher and Mr Ashford in particular). Hope you’re all safe and hope you’re all back for next year (and even next week 🤪).

Might sign off with this week’s SOTW. This is not something that is musically monumental. Nor is it an anthem for the ages. Far from it. This, my friends, is something completely silly. Silly but fun. Strange, but I love it.

Good to hear you are 'chillun" mate.
That was a very interesting photo and no doubt probably accurate with the colouring if not the features. Every prediction of JC I've seen since a young tacker showed him as a very white Caucasian despite the fact he was born in the Middle East and lived his entire life there.
I loved the SOTW. At first I thought what is this but hey it grows on you and I ended up really enjoying it. Kind of reminded me a bit of "gangnam style". Keep happy mate, I'll try a joke or two soon.

That was the rocket man not me concerned about your health but of course I echo his sentiments and hope you and family are safe and well.
I had a terrific Christmas eve with my daughter and a great Chrissy day with my son, his wife and two delightful grandkids.
I agree with you "what the hell is leftover beer?" I'm sure it doesn't exist in AUS. Hope you all had an enjoyable Christmas. Tell me if you can find any left over beer can you take a pic and post it, I'd love to see what it looks like.
