Redcliffe Dolphins vs Canterbury Bulldogs – Thursday night – Suncorp Stadium
The Bulldogs are sticking solid, with no changes to the starting thirteen. Note that Mann and Turpin are both unavailable on Thursday, so a fair shake up to their interchange bench. The Bulldogs were playing at Suncorp just a fortnight ago, where an understrength Broncos put them to the sword. So too the Cowboys the week prior. Once again, the Bulldogs are struggling in attack. Trying to change things up with the ball hasn't worked, so they might be better off going back to the simple stuff. It was good enough to beat the Panthers not so long ago. They will need to find some points somewhere, because their opponent has attacking firepower across their backline. They were too good for the Storm last week and I expect them to do much the same to another out of form side on Thursday. Nikorima and Marshall-King have been named on an extended bench, and are some (small) chance of making the seventeen.
Verdict - Dolphins by 8
Result - Dolphins 44 defeated Bulldogs 12
Sydney Roosters vs Gold Coast Titans – Friday night – Polytec Stadium
The Roosters have taken this home game to Gosford and one of the prettiest rugby league grounds you're likely to find. They impressed against the Broncos last week but injuries to Collins and Nawaqanitawase don't help their cause. Leniu replaces Collins in the starting front row and he'll need to lift his game a little on recent efforts. Ramsay starts on the wing on Friday night after his emotional return to first grade last week. Give the guy a try. The Titans have shuffled their playmakers in the hope of finding some rugby league magic. The promising Zane Harrison starts at halfback, Campbell to five-eighth and Ilias is out of the seventeen. I can't completely rule out the Titans, but I can't tip them.
Verdict - Roosters by 14
Result - Roosters 28 defeated Titans 12
North Queensland Cowboys vs Parramatta Eels – Friday night – Queensland Country Bank Stadium
The Eels have conceded more points than anyone this season, and they head up to Townsville just as the Cowboys have started to find their form with the ball. The home side have scored 76 points in their last two games, including 46 points in their last game at home over the Sharks. That's fair form. To make matters worse, JT (Taumalolo) replaces JT (Thurston) as the most capped Cowboy of all time. A reason to celebrate, and more than enough reason to assume the Cowboys won't take this game lightly. If the home side crack 50 we might even see a conversion attempt from the big guy.
Verdict - Cowboys by 16
Result - Eels 33 defeated Cowboys 30
St George Illawarra Dragons vs Newcastle Knights – Saturday afternoon – WIN Stadium
The Dragons collected their first points for the season last weekend, and have had some time to reset under their new coach. They also welcome back Gutherson, which can only help. It helps, but they face an unchanged Knights side that racked up 42 against the Rabbitohs last week. I expect the Dragons will be better, but not good enough.
Verdict - Knights by 10
Result - Knights 44 defeated Dragons 10
South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Cronulla Sharks – Saturday night – Accor Stadium
Significant changes for the Rabbitohs spine, with Gray returning at fullback and Humphries making way for Ward in the halves. And the changes don't end there, with Wighton out with an arm injury. No such challenges for the visitors, who will bring the same side that impressed over the Tigers last week. If the Sharks can repeat that performance they win again, but consistency is the key to the Sharks prospects. I'll cautiously tip them here, particularly with all the changes for the home side.
Verdict - Sharks by 1
Result - Rabbitohs 36 defeated Sharks 12
Manly Sea Eagles vs Brisbane Broncos – Saturday night – 4 Pines Park
The Sea Eagles had their first loss under coach Foran but lost few admirers, pushing the Panthers all the way in a narrow loss on Sunday. They'll be feeling optimistic, and looking forward to getting back to their spiritual home. Fogarty returns in the halves on Saturday, after Walsh impressed many with his performance last week. The last thing the Broncos needed was to lose more key personnel, but Reynolds, Staggs and Mariner are all out after the loss to the Chooks. Manly have come up against the defending premiers at a good time and I think they can get it done.
Verdict - Sea Eagles by 4
Result - Sea Eagles 32 defeated Broncos 4
Melbourne Storm vs Wests Tigers – Sunday afternoon – AAMI Park
Unchartered waters for the Storm, and for all of us. No-one has ever experienced a Storm team performing this poorly in their entire history. Hughes is a timely return in the halves, replacing the injured Wishart. The Tigers have a laundry list of changes and are backing up from a disappointing loss to the Sharks last week. They'll be better than that, but they're a young side and all the chopping and changing is unsettling. I don't expect the Storm to make the finals this season, but this is the sort of game where they may end up racking up a tally and giving their fans at home something to cheer about.
Verdict - Storm by 14
Result - Storm 44 defeated Tigers 16
Canberra Raiders vs Penrith Panthers – Sunday afternoon – GIO Stadium
If there is a surprise result this weekend this might be it, and it's the game of the round I say. The Raiders are gradually improving and have some key players returning on Sunday in Strange and Young. The Panthers have had a few narrow wins of late, but they keep winning, and that's what the good teams do. I'm expecting another tight contest here, and those key leaders in the Panthers lineup (Cleary, Yeo, Edwards) have the smarts and the skills to get the job done.
Verdict - Panthers by 7
Result - Panthers 30 defeated Raiders 18

Greetings football fans
I have updated the NRL ladder and the tipping comp after round nine - apologies for the delays today...I've been on the road all morning.
As Mary S has pointed out, we have 3 perfect scores in round 9. Congrats to all of us...including me. Goodness gracious I'm in the best tipping form of my career. Could I actually end up on a podium this season?
As always, if anyone notices any issues with the scores just let me know.
I'll have my round ten previews and selections published on Wednesday.
All the best

"Ramsay starts on the wing on Friday night after his emotional return to first grade last week. Give the guy a try. "
I couldn't agree more, Ramsay could have easily given up after the diagnosis, but has worked hard and prevailed . I couldn't be happier for someone to score

There's some confusion around the Rabbits/Sharks game.
The NRL website have replaced Latrell Mitchell in the team list with Latrell Siegwalt.
Not sure if that is an admin error on the website or an actual team change.
Worth keeping an eye on...he's a big out if he's out.
Also...talk that Burton may be a late withdrawal from the game tonight for the Dogs. Again, nothing official yet.
All the best

I thought in golden point, that the first try/field goal ended the game, and we had a winner. Even with the error in judgement by Scott Drinkwater, why the addition penalty if the winner is already established?
Confused,
Mary
