Cronulla Sharks vs Canterbury Bulldogs – Friday night – Suncorp Stadium
Twelve points. In their last three games the Bulldogs have scored a total of twelve points. In a competition where teams appear to be scoring more points than they have in, perhaps forever, that's not enough to win games of football. It was during the first two rounds of the season, when the Bulldogs ground out low-scoring victories, but not anymore. Perhaps they'll flick the switch at some point and it will all come together, but I'd like to see it happen before I start predicting such a thing. As for the Sharks, well they truly are a difficult lot to predict. They're hot then they're cold. They're yes then they're no. They'll be missing Brailey and McInnes on Friday night, which worries me a little, but I worry about the Bulldogs attack more. Burton, Mann and King return for the Bulldogs this week. It probably helps...probably. A reluctant tip for the Sharks in this - if I had an option to tip neither team I'd be tempted.
Verdict - Sharks by 7
Result - Sharks 38 defeated Bulldogs 16
South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Redcliffe Dolphins – Friday night – Suncorp Stadium
On paper this looks like the best game of Magic Round, but some of these other contests might surprise the cheese out of us. It's not the first time these sides have clashed - they met way back in round one at this venue where the Rabbitohs prevailed 40-30 in what was something of a surprise result at the time. The Bunnies are now in the top four and look every inch a top eight team. The Dolphins meanwhile, are on the cusp of the top eight, a position Dolphins fan have become familiar with. Some slight line-up changes for Friday night compared to their round one clash - the Rabbits won't have Wighton, Fifita or Johnston this time. The Dolphins have lost Averillo, but have gained Plath, Marshall-King, Stone and Molo. Handy additions there for the Dolphins middle, and they did look more dangerous in attack last week when Marshall-King made his long-awaited return. Looks a terrific contest. I'm hoping the Dolphins have most of the crowd support to help will them over the line.
Verdict - Dolphins by 4
Result - Dolphins 32 defeated Rabbitohs 10
Wests Tigers vs Sea Eagles – Saturday afternoon – Suncorp Stadium
It's been a difficult few weeks for the Tigers, conceding 96 points in their last two outings. Still, they're in the top six, so it could be a lot worse. Terrell May returns on Saturday to bolster the forwards, but they're still missing plenty of key personnel. The Sea Eagles have won five of their last six, and their only loss was a narrow one to the Panthers. This weekend, Fogarty and Hetherington return to make a strong side even stronger.
Verdict - Sea Eagles by 16
Result - Sea Eagles 46 defeated Tigers 18
Sydney Roosters vs North Queensland Cowboys – Saturday afternoon – Suncorp Stadium
Victor Radley dodged suspensions recently, but then got suspended for something he did in a game he shouldn't have been playing in because he probably should have already been suspended. The suspense is killing me. Otherwise, Collins returns to the front row and Leniu goes back to the bench. Some big outs for the Cowboys, with Deardon injured and Taumalolo rested. Liam Sutton makes his NRL debut in the halves alongside Clifford - best of luck to the young man. In their last five games the Cowboys have conceded 30 or more points four times - the exception was the game against the Bulldogs and we're all well aware how much trouble they're having scoring points at the moment. Of those four games, the Cowboys still managed to win two of them, and were narrow losers in one other. So no issues with the Cowboys attack, but defence appears to be an issue. Here they face a team that have scored...and this might read like a typo...42 tries in their last 6 games. That's not a typo - since their loss to the Panthers, the Chooks are averaging 7 tries per game. Looks like a high-scoring contest this one.
Verdict - Roosters by 10
Result - Cowboys 18 defeated Roosters 12
Parramatta Eels vs Melbourne Storm – Saturday night – Suncorp Stadium
Pleasingly, Faalogo has been cleared of a facial fracture and has been named at fullback for the Storm. They're a much more entertaining proposition when he's on the paddock. A much-needed win for the purple machine, but there's some doubt about that form. Still, a win is a win, and it wouldn't surprise if the Storm find some spark off the back of it. The Eels never looked like winning against the Cowboys, but won anyway. They'd been poor in the weeks prior so, again, there's some doubt about the form. What I do know is that these sides have already played each other this year. In round one, the Storm won 52-4. A lot has happened since then of course, and a scoreline like that seems unlikely, but I'm tipping them.
Verdict - Storm by 4
Result - Storm 34 defeated Eels 8
Gold Coast Titans vs Newcastle Knights – Sunday afternoon – Suncorp Stadium
Few would argue that Holbrook has done a terrific job in charge of the Knights, and he gets a chance to notch up a win against his old club on Sunday. I do have a soft spot for the Titans, but even I can't tip them here. Ponga gets another chance to impress the Qld Origin selectors, who may very well get creative and name him in the halves.
Verdict - Knights by 14
Result - Knights 36 defeated Titans 12
New Zealand Warriors vs Brisbane Broncos – Sunday afternoon – Suncorp Stadium
The Broncos don't get a lot of Sunday afternoon games, so its good to see this slotting into this timeslot for Magic Round. They'll make up the majority of the fans at the game, but there'll be no shortage of Warriors fans fronting up too. Reynolds is an important return for the Broncos, and a familiar looking and sounding player will make his NRL debut on the wing - the best of luck to Philip Coates. There's plenty of firepower in the Broncos backline but it's in the forwards where they are under-manned. To make matters worse, Barnett returns up front for the Warriors to take on his next club. When he or Fisher-Harris need a rest, Jackson Ford comes on to replace them, so no real reprieve for the Broncos there. I expect the Broncos to improve on their showing last week, but I'm with the Warriors in this.
Verdict - Warriors by 8
Result - Warriors 42 defeated Broncos 12
Penrith Panthers vs St George Illawarra Dragons – Sunday night – Suncorp Stadium
What can I say? The Dragons have nothing to lose, except this game...and they will.
Verdict - Panthers by 34
Result - Panthers 28 defeated Dragons 6

Good morning football fans
I have updated the NRL ladder and the tipping comp after round ten. Top score for the round was 7 from 8, and I won't be listing everyone because there are dozens of you. Well done everyone.
As always, if you notice any issues with the scoring just let me know.
I'll have my previews and selections published on Wednesday. First game of Magic Round isn't until Friday night so we have a bit more time than usual.

Hi Thinker,
I noticed a mistake in the results for round 10 (so sorry to Bob Bulldog Briscoe in advanced), but we actually finished with 5 rather than 6 getting Cowboys, Sharks and Raiders wrong.
Cheers!!!!

Is anyone going to watch the women's SOO tonight?
I know i will seem like a misogynist,but i can't watch the women's game.
It is just missing something. The way they run? or the impact? I don't know, but it just doesn't seem right,to me.
Personally,i don't think women are built for the nitty gritty of the game.

@Esra Star
I'll be watching it and do enjoy it. They were a bit scratchy in the first Origin game, but so are the blokes in the first round of the season.
I wonder how I'll feel if I see one of them get hurt. I mean, really badly hurt.
I don't like watching anyone get injured of course.
Anyhoo....hopefully no compound fractures tonight.
Still raining in Brisbane....could be a bit scratchy in game two as well.

Hiya Mary.
Thanks for thinking of me!
I took a look at that link and know Exactly how that guy (the author) feels ... he obviously loves the game and in his 5th decade of watching and loving it is now asking himself if it's worth the aggravation , with the way the game is now being officiated
His main beef is the same as Esra's ... "six agains" ...and like my main beef , they can change the result of a match when the match officials can't get them right ... not just occasionally but with such regularity that he (the author) and I are switching off.
Thanks for showing me that ... I feel better knowing after all these years of watching and loving the game I'm not the only one switching off in favour of my "blood pressure".
... I did exactly that last Friday night (I haven't gone "cold turkey) and I thought of YOU at the time.
... it was in the 22nd minute of the Cowboys home game and Jason Taumolou's chance to win his first "Milestone match" (his games 1 , 50, 100, 150, 200 &250 have all been losses for the Cowboys!).
The link is here for that moment in that game -
https://www.facebook.com/share/v/17gYDPJBi1/?mibextid=wwXIfr
That 22nd minute try that was awarded to Tallyn Da Silva seconds after he had thrown a blatant forward pass to Jack De Belin.
As I changed the channel I said to my wife "that try better not be the difference between Cowboys winning or losing!"
...... It WAS! ..... my condolences to you Mary .... and to JT.

You're no misogynist Esra.
But you are brave to come out and say what a lot of us are thinking and feeling 😂 .
Maybe for me it's the kicking ... conversions from out on the sideline that don't go the distance, high balls , catching high balls.
I'm sure it will get better as it's early days yet mate.
There's no 33yo veterans running around out there.
How many teams are there?
Of course it's not fair to compare the men's game to the women's and therein lies the problem/solution.
You and I (and many others) subconsciously do.
And those that enjoy watching don't.
They are able to do what you and I are not. ... They are able to adjust their expectations and enjoy it for what it is. It's like being a fan of two different sports almost.
.... I'll tell you what the women do better than the men's game though.
.. they pull that drawstring on their shorts a lot tighter than the men do!!... We're subjected to the sight of men's hairy asses on a weekly basis in the men's comp and I'm sure that tipsters like Footy Chic and Mary S don't mind that but I'm yet to see a good "dakking" in the women's comp! ... hahaha

@MGM
Nice to hear from you my good man.
If I'm watching a game and Mrs Thinker is on the couch with me doing something else, she regularly asks me to let her know if anyone cute loses their shorts.
Clearly the NRL players are as Kanye might say - harder, better, faster, stronger. I enjoy a contest, so as long as the two teams are fairly evenly matched, I'm entertained. Whether that's the best two teams in the NRL, two teams trying to avoid a wooden spoon, or two evenly matched sides in my local comp. If it's a contest...I'm entertained.
The women will never be as good as the men, but they will get better. Dylan Brown earns more in one season than the entire salary cap for an NRLW squad. They are different beasts.
Anyhoo...whenever discussions turn to this I'm reminded of a contest between a male tennis player no-one remembers unless they are hard-core trivia buffs (Karsten Braasch) and the Williams sisters. You can read about it here.

For any of you that have been trying to get on the website for the last couple of hours, and wondering what the heck is going on...I apologise.
We are back online now...as you can see if you're reading this.
Outage was caused by a broader attack on the host of this and many many other websites, rather than an attack on this specific website.
Thankfully, none of your data or details have been compromised.
Apologies again. I would have told you all sooner, but it's not easy to tell people your website is down when your website is down :-)

Hi Ceno,
I take it your comment is in regard to the above by Esra Star, MGM and The Thinker in regard to women playing rugby, or any sport for that matter.
As a woman, I would say that women play sport in a different way to men, even though the rules of the game are the same, but that doesn't diminish their enjoyment or competitiveness in the way they tackle the job.
I admire the way women embrace the different sports (and jobs) that were once only there for men. In rugby, women's involvement has been for a short time, and their skills will develop further, but I don't expect them to have the same level of strength as the men.
Personally, I feel enjoyment is the key, whether as a player or a spectator.
All the best,
Cheers,
Mary

Hi folks.
... 🤔 🤔 Riddle me This :
When the ball or your foot touches any part of the Dead Ball Line you are deemed to be in the Dead Ball Zone.
When the ball or your foot touches any part of the Try Line you are deemed to be in the In Goal Zone.
Same goes for the Touch Lines (you are deemed to have "Gone into Touch"').
So , logically, it must follow that if just your big toe is touching your side of your 40mtr Line you are deemed to be in your 40mtr Zone.
Following this logic only the Half-way Line should be debatable or the cause of any confusion (I would suggest the line itself is common ground in between two 45mtr Zones and the length of a football field is actually 90.15 metres) 🤪
... So can anyone tell me why Mitchell Moses' 40-20 kick was disallowed tonight? 🤔 🤔
Just sayin' ...
Submitted by MGM on
Correction -
They always say "he ran 90 meters" when someone runs the length od the field ... they got me there!
I should have said that the halfway line separates two 50 mtr zones.
The rest still stands and it wasn't a rhetorical question guys!
